Great pickups! I have that new Val Lewton on my wishlist. I picked up Pandora’s Box many years ago on DVD back when I would get great deals and it is one of the ones I never got around to watching yet. I don’t think I have seen any Albert Brooks films yet.
The special features on both the Val Lewton double feature and Pandora’s Box are exceptionally good. I really enjoyed all of that extra content and will probably re-watch them over and over again. Though we don’t have the Criterion sales here in Canada, I woke up this morning, checked my amazon wish list and noticed that Vampyr (Criterion) had shot down in price overnight so I snatched it up. That tends to randomly happen with Criterion titles on amazon here, so I always keep an eye out.
@@VanessaButtino So great that you picked up Vampyr, definitely a good creative release from Criterion. Like you, I love the extra content and can watch over and over again especially the documentaries or talk show interviews. The Val Lewton doc on the Criterion release of Cat People is one of my favorites.
Criterion sales are always welcome. Apparently we’ll have a 40% sale here on from Friday so fingers crossed they have some titles we want. With Halloween over soon, will you be doing a 30 days of Noir for Noirvember for the vlog? 😊 Best to you and Jessie.
Oh that's great, any titles at the top of your list? Will definitely be adding some Noirvember content in the weekly vlogs next month. All the best to you too! Hope you have a good rest of the week and weekend.
@ Well, the Criterion sale started here today and although it was a bit limited, I picked up Down by Law, Midnight Cowboy and Fail Safe so far, with some more that I’m eyeing up. Im still recovering from the fantastic Indicator sale that started early this week. It’s always a challenge balancing a poor credit card with a happy shelf 😊
@@MsModestyBlaise Oh those are some great films. The 50% off Criterion sale at Barnes and Noble started today and goes on until 12/2 so I'm hoping to pickup a few more titles. I love Indicator too btw, what a great company. Hope you have a good weekend.
A Fistful of Dynamite is a wild ride: Rod Steiger gives a really great, fun performance (he's really matching Eli Wallach's energy in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly). I remember watching Nope for the first time on a plane: a disturbing sequence about midway left me so unsettled I felt claustrophobic in my seat.
@@alexvillarreal6039 I’m looking forward to watching. The film was featured in a Sergio Leone documentary I recently watched. I’m interested to watch Nope for the first time too which was discussed in the AMC+ show “Horror’s Greatest”.
Absolutely love Imprint something about their chunky boxes the whole thing feels special. Some great recommendations for Criterion, this year I only grabbed two titles putting the rest of my budget towards the Frank Capra box set. I had only picked up The Others and preordered The Shape of Water. Fistful of Dynamite was excellent I thought it was a comedy based on the poster art, still good but was drama leans into tragedy. Them is also excellent, Great video.
Same here, I'm a big fan of Imprint. One of my favorites is the Sidney Lumet set but all of the box sets are amazing in my humble opinion. Thanks for mentioning the Frank Capra box set, looks really good. I always have a big wish list for Criterion but end up picking up what I can during the sales, the 24 hour flash sale or the Barnes and Noble 50% off sale. I will probably pickup a few more films before the end of the month. Cool that you picked up The Others and preordered Shape of Water. At the top of my list right now is Paper Moon, Scarface, No Country For Old Men, and a few others. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Cool stuff Dave! I have the Val Lewton double feature and Pandora's Box, but I haven't watched them yet. I have been watching a few silent movies lately. Anyway, happy watching.
Nice collection of pickups, definitely watch Buck Roger after Star Trek. The first season is the best parts of the second are ok. Would like to here your thoughts after you watch.
Thanks! Oh yes, planning on starting Buck Rogers are the Star Trek TOS rewatch which I'm enjoying. Will definitely share my thoughts in weekly vlogs or other videos.
I recently watched Fistfull of Dynamite and it's a great time/amazing watch. The copy I found at a thrift store have didn't have regular artwork, though, just a plain white unlabeled dvd case and some kind of "CD sized" booklet with an essay/write up. Maybe material from some kind of box set?

Thanks. Lost In America is one of my favorite Albert Brooks films. Very entertaining.
Nice grabs, I also went with the Val Lewton double and also Ride the Pink Horse and the When Horror Came to Shochiku eclipse box
Thanks! Wow, you got some great pickups too!

Cool that you found a copy with some extras. I just saw that Kino Lorber has a Sergio Leone box set.
Criterion's digipak cases feel very premium, I'm disappointed Kino still uses those cheap Blue cases.
Yes, I agree. Love the Criterion digipacks.
