  • Ash Dauno here from Dauno's Exotics ! A few days ago I recieved a comment asking "How much would you recommend I save, about to buy a beardie"... So I thought why not go ahead and make a full video on the cost and expenses of the Pigona Vitticeps (bearded dragon)! This video should explain to you how you can successfully and cheaply home a bearded dragon. I hope you all enjoyed make sure to comment if you have any questions or advice... Ash Dauno and we'll catch you on the next one!

    Awesome video! I think you should mention in a future video why 4x2x2 is the minimum enclosure size, which is to allow for a proper temperature gradient. Since beardies need a high temp basking spot, they also need enough space to have a cool area in the tank. If you try to have a 95°F basking spot in a tiny tank, then the whole tank will be that temperature and overheat the dragon. People forget that being cold blooded/exothermic also means that reptiles can't cool themselves down. I'd love to see you make a video about setting up a dragon enclosure and how all the lighting and heating equipment works! Your content is great so far, I'm glad I subbed!

      Thank you! I’ll definitely do a video on this soon, explaining why I feel that a 4x2x2 is rather minimum when coming to care for these “wild” animals. And yes people do need to understand that having the heat over something as small as a 40 gallon would not allow a full grown dragon to have much room to remove itself from the heat in the tank, very good analogy! I’ll definitely do my best to get that video uploaded soon

    My roommate had a female and she loved attention. She belonged to my roommate but everyone in the house took great care of her. She always had a clean enclosure, good food and plenty of outside time. I'd always take her out when our mail lady was coming around cause she absolutely loved the bearded dragons.

    Dope video fam. The one thing i will say is people should save a bit more for the actual beardie as well because a while back when i was doing beardie research, i was going to get it from a pet store but all my research said to get it from a reputable breeder so i went looking for those and stumbled upon morph market and started learning about beardie morphs which are a bit more expensive than the pet store beardeds. I mean of course people are still gonna go get those pet store beardeds for 100 or less but if you want a 🔥 bearded dragon with a color morph of some sort it'll be 100 or more from a breeder.

    I just spent $250 on my 4x2x2 enclosure. There expensive. My beardie is 9 months old and not fully grown yet. I plan to invest in a 8x4x4

      I think I’ll be investing in a 8x4 as well but I’m wondering if I should keep the height at 2ft or go to 4ft

      That's a good question I'm not sure I know we got her when she was a baby from pets petsmart but they never told me an exact age and we have had her for about 6 months it was initially for my daughters class project but they weren't taking care of her right so we brought her home she's been to the vet where they prescribed calcium, a dewormer, and tested her for parasites

    • @AsktheSpirits
      @AsktheSpirits 5 місяців тому +2

      One thing I was taught is your bearded dragon will not starve itself. As long as you are offering food. Unless there’s an underlying medical condition like parasites, which is very common in bearded dragons. If it’s that much of a concern, you should take him to the vet but as long as he’s active, that is a good sign.

    • @AshDauno
      @AshDauno  5 місяців тому +2

      @@AsktheSpirits this is very true! I’m gonna start telling people this bc it is so TRUE! My beardie used to be so stubborn with his food but then my grandpa who knows nothing about animals said “Don’t worry if he hungry he gone eat” 😂

    • @thatoneannoyingtornadosire8755
      @thatoneannoyingtornadosire8755 4 місяці тому +1

      they will not get defensive around you, meaning no threat posture (puffing, hissing etc.), no darting away or flinching from your hand and a more relaxed body language. sometimes they will even attempt to sleep on you if they're that comfortable around you. some beardies don't like being touched on their head and beard, they find it somewhat annoying and i sort of believe touching the tail makes them slightly uncomfortable but they might tolerate it.
      final notes, if your beardie is "glass surfing" they may be either asking to go to the potty (if you have trained them to) or wanting to be held or let out to explore. while you're holding them they may try to get out of your grasp, this can mean two things; that they do not want to be held at that moment (or don't enjoy it at all) or that they want to be on the ground to go explore. be careful not to frighten them by standing tall and moving around sporadically around them on the ground, and if they are outside they may get stressed and not realize it is you, you can reassure them by petting them and they should calm down.
      sorry for such a long read but hopefully this will be helpful!

    You didn't even estimate costs, just were yapping for 15 minutes. Which is fine but don't title the video "How much does it cost..." if you aren't going to answer it (the number 600 which you said doesn't even include the food as you said). You can make those ChatGPT-esque vague puffed paragraphs but it isn't a good video man. It would help so so much if you actually took a few hours to research and show costs of enclosures, turfs, lamps etc. but even if just took a first result of google and compile it, it would be way way way better. In that way you wouldn't give that number which it looked like you came out with it on the spot. But had results from shops with costs so the figure would be supported by something, you could use it to give some shoutouts to the shops you like and where you buy and gave tips on what to look for where searching for right source to buy necessities from. And the best (and the easiest) thing you could do is show what you got in the last month, especially when it comes to the food and supplements (like calcium). It would give a rough estimate that will ALWAYS be up to date, as you can find equipment on discount, from a friend etc. but food costs will never be outdated. And if you did that with everything that's used in your setup, if you have shown what you're dragons are rocking it would be a 10000x better video. For example: "I have this terrarium and it costed me x, then I have lamp that costs y, turf that I use is from this company, explain that even though that bag is enough for 4 fillings you can't find smaller bags and it costs z, I also use... bla bla bla. If you want to know more about my setup click here on this video, in this one I'm summarizing it and focusing on costs". And you could make a amazon cart with ALL OF IT but explain that it's better to buy from a topical website, but to show rough estimate of everything everyone can look into a cart.
    I didn't like the video, but mostly because it wasn't on topic and you a) you threw a lot of helpful tips and real life scenarios that were helpful but not specifically in a video focused on $$$, and more importantly b) you're a kid, so instead of dislike and clicked off I watched to the end and decided to write this comment. If you take this "harsh criticism" and make a new, better video and include things that I suggested it's a win-win. Thanks to that the potential kids that loves them and dreams about owning one would have a video to point to and show to their parents how much "one-time" purchases like terrarium, lamps, decour, caves and the animal itself, and how much "everyday purchases" with things like food and substrate cost, giving it clear overall cost. And obviously, new to be owners will also benefit from having a great video with a lot of helpful tips besides the costs that's very hard if not impossible to find in a niche topic like reptiles and even more so with bded-dragons specifically. And you lower the odds of abused dragons that live in a 15 gallon tank without heat lamp and cool places, not only because they see and hear how one SHOULD live if they are stupid or for those that are not just stupid but cruel or unfeeling maybe the cost of upkeeping it alive will scare them. If you write "lol don't care" comment then at least I tried.
    I'm sorry if it's a little messy of a comment but English is my second language but even I can see that I'm going in circle making the same point. I don't write or talk, especially stuff like that often so I have a problem with making a clear point but making a good argument AND supporting it with few sentences? Forget it, lol.
