Sooo excited you have started the Flanaverse, Cass. Once done with this series please continue with his other series, "The Haunting of Bly Manor", "Midnight Mass", and "The Fall of House of Usher".
Hi Cass, this is the best short series I've ever seen. Great acting, great story and let's not forget spooky stuff, who could ask for more, glad you're reacting to it !
This show came out right around the time myself and three of my biological siblings finally found each other after being separated and adopted by different families at birth (oldest sister, myself, younger brother, another younger sister and we still havent found our youngest brother, our bio parents were an absolute baby factory disaster) so the insanely emotional vicegrip this masterpiece had on me after finally meeting them and bonding with them and exploring each others lives as a group of siblings for the first time was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. The way the story is told in a non-linear style with each sibling only really knowing their side of the story and what they~ experienced was so captivating. Also I know Theo is probably the undisputed fan favourite but I'm crawling out of the woodwork to be the only Shirley stan/apologist in this fanbase. Type A control freak personality icon lmao
One of the greatest shows ever made. Basically a family drama dealing with grief and trauma. Wonderfully creepy, atmospheric and emotionally powerful. Love Mike Flanagan's work.
AH!! I know it's only a mini-series but this show has lived in my head ever since it premiered. The writing is so good, and there are so many things you don't pick up on, that you'll end up wanting to rewatch it many times. In fact, I would say this is a series that gets better and better the more you rewatch it. I can't say enough good things about it. It'll make you feel uneasy, make you scream, make you cry, make you depressed, and make you feel at peace. It's a crazy ride that is very similar to the journey one experiences with Buffy, and it's amazing. ❤️❤️❤️
Im a big fan of the editing in this series, the transitions are some of the best ive ever seen. Plus the fact that every episode centers around a specific character, and slowly reveals their perspective, just brilliantly done.
Luke being told to leave the wedding because he was high off heroine wasn't too harsh. It's a normal boundary to have a wedding day that's free of toxic people. Even if we love someone & wish they were around...they can still be toxic. And addicts are toxic as hell. They ruin almost every major event & seem to make the whole day about themselves. Even if they don't mean to..an addict may be tempted to steal stuff from the wedding to support their habit. They may pass out & need to be transported to a hospital if they overdose or dehydrate. And when it comes to weddings, you do not stress out the bride with issues like this.
You can support & give lots of misplaced trust to an addict in hopes they will change...hell you can even beg them & give them a thousand chances. Nothing & Noone will change their mind except themselves. A wedding wouldn't change that.
Oh my gosh please take this to the end! Even if it doesn’t make many views (which would be unfair but ah) you will be surprised episode by episode with just how soulful this show is. It’s so sincere and it’s not just about being scary, it’s about love, grief, family. It’s truly worth it. Mike Flanagan makes these with so much heart, he truly cares about art and message.
The end of episode one when Nell turns gray and moans, I've watched the series at least a half dozen times over the years and countless reaction videos, and that moment still gives me the chills every time.
Great reaction so far! Also, I'm convinced Carla Gugino is an actual goddess walking amongst us, even more so after seeing her in Mike Flanagan's latest series. Hope you enjoy the spooky house!
i am SO hype for you to watch this! your attention to detail songs always astounds me so i'm unbelievably excited to watch you piece this story together by the end
This show is amazing, genuinely one of the best miniseries on Netflix. Mike Flanagan manages to really scare and unsettle you throughout the show, but at the same time also crafts some of the most gut-wrenchingly devastating scenes imaginable. The man is one of the best filmmakers working in the horror genre right now, and I think this is his magnum opus, I cannot wait to see your reactions to the rest of the episodes
Thank you for watching this and doing reactions. I had forgotten I'd watch this show but watching your responses made me remember how compelling it was.
so happy I found your channel and this reaction series! HOHH is my favorite limited series ever and I watch it every spooky season. I love it because it’s about so much more than ghosts and ghouls, it’s an allegory for loss and grief as these manifestations and is a masterclass by Mike Flanagan
Having given it some thought, this is my favorite horror thing ever made. It's a wonderful story that really is scary, but when it's all over, it leaves you very glad you watched it. Great writing. Great acting.
Oh my god??? I literally started watching this show for the first time this week, the universe loves me so bad for this ahhhh Can't wait to watch the episodes and immediately come here to watch it again with you
If you didn’t know, this series is based on the book The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Bly Manor is also based on a book, which is Turn of the Screw by Henry James (as well as some other pieces of James’ work). and he has a new one that just came out called The Fall of the House of Usher which is based on a bunch of Edgar Allan Poe stories! :)
Okay YES I literally just watched The Conjuring, and when you see the ghosts in physical form for the first time I’m completely not scared anymore lol I just see the actor in makeup and the uneasiness is gone. The tension and uneasiness coming from what you can’t see is where supernatural horror really shines.
ive seen a few of your videos now and LOVED all of them! this is one of my favorite shows!! cant wait to hear your thoughts once you have the whole story
Glad to have discovered your channel! Can't wait to see the rest of your reactions to this spectacular show. Have you seen any other of Flanagan's series beside Midnight Mass? The Haunting of Bly Manor is my personal favorite. But his new show The Fall of the House of Usher knocked it out of the park as well.
I had a similar ghost experience to yours, Cass. According to my parents when I was very young on several occasions I described a young woman standing next to my bed, watching over me. I apparently told them she was my guardian angel, as she would watch over me as I slept. My mother was utterly freaked out of course. When my father asked what she looked like my description of her was identical to a good friend of his who died in an accident right before I was born. She had told him once that she was looking forward to meet me and hoped that some day she'd be allowed to become a godmother of sorts to me, as she wasn't able to have children of her own. The story intrigues me till this day. On another note, this show is amazing all the way through! If you weren't aware yet each episode has ghosts lurking in the background. Most are quite well-hidden. In case you're interested there's a video on YT that shows where, and in which shot a ghost is visible.
me too! I have the hardest time recongnizing faces until I've really got them in my head. Thank you for doing this series, I haven't been able to watch, I just wasn't getting it so I'm watching your shows until I can join in.
Shirley is Esme Cullen from Twilight. And I saw a vet commenting, that they know the kittens were dead the moment we saw cow milk, because it's bad for them.
so far everything I've seen from Mike Flanagan has been really good, this is by far my favorite, the story the acting the filming all top tier. Also, they found the Ouija board and tarot cards there at the house, they weren't playing with them
Just for your question about faces- I'm the same way and it's actually how I realized I was autistic and got diagnosed. But the term is "face-blindness" or prosopagnosia. It's not only in autistic people but it's quite common.
Also, "red room" sounds like "redrum", and it's so interesting to me because The Shining by Stephen King was heavily influenced by Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.
It's so sad that everybody misses little Theo's first scene :( Like, Steven even refers to her by name, I was expecting you to notice her because you're usually very observant and you take notes. That scene is also interesting to show her character, even as a child she was willing to go console Nell, like Steven, while Shirley was sleeping away
Really interesting to hear your opinion on supernatural vs. natural horror. Myself I've always been the opposide. I think comes down to me being scared of the unknown, and the supernatural is literally what we don't know. Killers on the other hand, they're just people who enjoy stabbing. Nothing to be scared about (besides being killed, but that can't be too bad).
I’m usually a silent watcher but as soon as you asked for an Ouija board story I knew I had ti comment because i definitely have one. Me and my friends were like 13/14 around Halloween time we wanted to do something spooky (definitely should have watched a scary movie) so we brought out the board and started playing, it started moving pretty quick answering yes or no questions, but we all thought it was one of us playing around until we asked for a name and it spelt out the name of our friend who had recently committed suic**de and then it was very obvious it couldn’t be one of us cause no one was the cruel. Me and my best friend both moved our hands off the board immediately and started sobbing. And I think moving our hands off was the mistake because right after the bored started going through the alphabet backwards and went back from z to o about 4 times before we all said goodbye. We were so scared that we stayed up all night until my mom went to work, and then we all walked to the nearest church and left the board on the steps. I will never touch one again that’s for sure.
The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor are two of the best tv-shows out there. Personally I like Bly Manor a little bit more, and I hope you'll react to it as well, but I'm very excited to rewatch Hill House with you, your reactions are great!
Good show for spooky season. The show is very intriguing and was surprised to find out there's a ghost in each episode somewhere in the background. Sometimes the brightness needs to be turned up and others not so much.
Yeah, I used a Ouija board now and then in my teens. Me and my friends dabbled in paranormal experiments and borderline occult stuff. We usually didn't use a planchette to spell out messages, though. Instead we used a compass and pointed at the letters. If the compass needle moved, we wrote down the letter. A fixed rule was that everyone had to keep their hands on the table at all times. The compass was my own and it never showed any sign of having been tampered with. I realise that stuff like this might sound too fantastic to be true and I definitely don't think that anyone should take stories like this at face value. Having developed an early respect for the scientific method (both my parents were scientists), I've always tried to keep an agnostic mindset regarding things like this. Dismissing my own experiences would be living in denial, but I can't say for sure what actually caused all the phenomena we encountered (spinning compass needles were, believe it or not, on the milder side of the spectrum). It sounds like you prefer psychological horror? That's my cup of tea as well! I recommend that you check out some Asian paranormal horror, such as: "The Eye", "Shutter", "Pulse", "Noroi", and of course "Ringu". You've already seen "The Grudge", but I'd suggest checking out the original Japanese films in the "Ju-On" franchise, especially the first few ones. Another excellent film often referred to as psychological horror is the South Korean film "A Tale of Two Sisters", which has added a decent amount of emotional drama into the mix. Creepy as well emotional applies to the Japanese drama-horror-mystery film "Dark Water" as well. The original title is probably a bit hard for many Westerners to remember: "Honogurai mizu no soko kara". Out of curiosity, have you avoided paranormal themes when playing horror games as well? If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend checking out an older survival horror game called "Amnesia: The Dark Descent". There's a more recent game in the series as well, but I'm not familiar with it. "Amnesia" takes place in a big and definitely spooky castle and has a slight Lovecraftian vibe to it. The graphics are a bit dated, but I think that they nevertheless managed to create a lot of suspense - plus an occasional shrieking-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-while-the-mouse-flies-out-of-my-hand moment as well! Oh, and ghost dogs - often of the black variety - appear in European (and elsewhere) folklore as harbingers of doom and death. Thanks for a great reaction! This series put Victoria Pedretti on my radar; I thought that her performance in this show was nothing short of phenomenal!
Most people can distinguish fantasy from reality, hence supernatural horror being intrinsically less scary than something like a psychological horror or a psychopathic killer.
Yeah, just saw you are reacting to this!! Hill House is so good, hope you enjoy. IMO, I think Hill House is the best mini-series from Mike Flanagan, but Bly Manor is also very good. Same with Midnight Mass and the very recent The Fall of the House of Usher.
@25:40 I'm with you about not being able to distinguish faces. When my daughter went to pre-school I occationally tried to pick up the wrong girl (only happened twice, but that's still at least two times to many). Did they look alike? I don't know. They're both blond. That's all I can remember. Thankfully the teachers were understanding enough to realize I'm a total dumbass. A few of them event started pointing to my daugher when I came to get her. Also I've walked straight past my mum in the grocery store on multiple occations, not realizing she's not just another traffic cone to dodge. (So, what I'm saying is this: A) I'm an absolute idiot. B) Don't worry about not being able to distinguish between Steven and Shirley's haunting. There are people who are far worse than you.)
Great choice for reaction, this is gonna be great:) I hope you do Bly Manor as well. I love Hill House but Bly is in my top 5 shows ever:) Love your content:)
What makes me so mad about Shirley is that she unilaterally intercepted and kicked Luke out of the wedding before anyone else knew he was there, and then she let the entire family just go ahead and think he was too much of a selfish f-up to even make it to his twin's wedding. That's the narrative the whole family believes, that he just never showed up. In reality, he managed to corral his issues long enough to be somewhere important and she just crapped all over it and let everyone think the worst of him.
God it’s such a tragedy and something that Anakin has to live with is how the fire of Darth Vader’s wrath and fury burned Anakin Skywalker as much as if not more than the fires of Mustafar. Darth Vader’s anger burned away Anakin Skywalker’s entire life and he sets up his castle on the very same place so he can remind himself all the time (I know there are canon/comic explanations yes), and I even could see Vader specially doing this to keep Anakin underfoot, even though he always asserts Anakin doesn’t exist anymore.
Some friendly advice, Cass, never watch Lost, lol. The amount of questions posed to answered would drive you nuts. Fear not for this series though, all your questions will be answered in due time. You're in for a great ride. As are we, so thank you!
this is one of the best pieces of media ever. i’ve rewatched it so many times, and it’s so so special to me. it’s not even the best of horror, it’s just one of the best period. enjoy!!
killers with knives that can get shot hundreds of times get killed hundreds of times get chopped up into tiny pieces but then come back in the next movie? seems pretty supernatural to me
Part of the beauty of this show is that every single character has motivations that make sense. It makes it so easy to empathize with all of them.
Except Steven. He’s just a dick
The Haunting of Hill House was Victoria Pedretti's professional debut as adult Nell. She is amazing in this and Bly Manor.
oh you are NOT READY for this rollercoaster of a series! IT'S SO GOOD.
Sooo excited you have started the Flanaverse, Cass.
Once done with this series please continue with his other series, "The Haunting of Bly Manor", "Midnight Mass", and "The Fall of House of Usher".
Yesss! Cass please do!
She apparently watched Midnight Mass already.
@@b2ickwall978 I saw that once I had got to that part of the reaction ... but ... I had already sent the message earlier.
Hi Cass, this is the best short series I've ever seen. Great acting, great story and let's not forget spooky stuff, who could ask for more, glad you're reacting to it !

I used a Ouija board once but all it kept saying was 'Staying alive' over and over. Turns out it was a Bee Gees board.
😂😂😂 if no one else appreciated this, just know I did.
Great reaction so far! Also, I'm convinced Carla Gugino is an actual goddess walking amongst us, even more so after seeing her in Mike Flanagan's latest series. Hope you enjoy the spooky house!

I’m really glad I’ve found your channel, your reactions really feel like we’re just all hanging out together and very wholesome
I am absolutely in love with the structure of this show
So glad you’re watching this!! This is my favorite show
one of the best limited-series of ALL TIME.
cassieeeee omg I've found you here too! subscribed and about to start this journey with you!! 😍
heyyyy💜
I'm so glad you're reacting to this series!! it's definitely worth it!!!
Having given it some thought, this is my favorite horror thing ever made. It's a wonderful story that really is scary, but when it's all over, it leaves you very glad you watched it. Great writing. Great acting.

Oh my god??? I literally started watching this show for the first time this week, the universe loves me so bad for this ahhhh
Can't wait to watch the episodes and immediately come here to watch it again with you
you do such a good job of editing these for the right moments of the show so we can see ur reactions lollll.
One of my favorite shows. It’s an annual spooky season watch for me ever since it came out.
I'm so happy you're watching this! Can't wait for your reactions to some of the upcoming episodes.
Okay YES I literally just watched The Conjuring, and when you see the ghosts in physical form for the first time I’m completely not scared anymore lol I just see the actor in makeup and the uneasiness is gone. The tension and uneasiness coming from what you can’t see is where supernatural horror really shines.
Really excited to see you react to this series! It's one of the best series I've ever seen.
What a good timing! I love this show with all my soul, you'll love it too
you’re not ready 😭
ive seen a few of your videos now and LOVED all of them! this is one of my favorite shows!! cant wait to hear your thoughts once you have the whole story
25:54 😂 I had the same reaction but I knew beforehand he had a part here.
Glad to have discovered your channel! Can't wait to see the rest of your reactions to this spectacular show. Have you seen any other of Flanagan's series beside Midnight Mass? The Haunting of Bly Manor is my personal favorite. But his new show The Fall of the House of Usher knocked it out of the park as well.
i haven’t! will probably react to bly manor and house of usher as well :)
I usually describe this show as a family trauma/drama with some ghosts
Great choice. I just finished the latest series, Fall of the House of Usher.
I'm in another continent and I'm pretty sure you heard my scream
OMGGG YES PLEEEASE CONTINUE THIS MASTERPIECE OF A SHOW
I had a similar ghost experience to yours, Cass.
How did two months pass me by without seeing a new HoHH reactor?! At least now I get to binge!
18:39 - This was her debut, she talks about how nervous she was taking on this role.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm so happy!!!! this is absolutely one of my favorite shows
30:44 same! LOL All it taught me was to NEVER go to another one
The way there was 5 of the cats just like the siblings she said “ that one is me” now nelle dead and so is the cat that she chose
im so ready for your NFR reaction, best album ever
the one who plays Shirley, does feature in Grey's anatomy, I also remember her from twilight too.
I’m still haunted from all the family members I had to view that passed. I can’t do them anymore. It freaks me out
so far everything I've seen from Mike Flanagan has been really good, this is by far my favorite, the story the acting the filming all top tier. Also, they found the Ouija board and tarot cards there at the house, they weren't playing with them
so happy youre doing this great show
OMG I LOVE THAT YOU'RE DOING HILL HOUSE.
If Cassie winked at me at a bar then suddenly appeared and say "hey" I might faint
Just for your question about faces- I'm the same way and it's actually how I realized I was autistic and got diagnosed. But the term is "face-blindness" or prosopagnosia. It's not only in autistic people but it's quite common.

While reacting to Hill House, watch for hidden ghosts in the background, also waiting for NFR reaction.
My favorite series ever! Greetings from Mexico 💜

I love anything by Flanagan. So excited to see your reaction/hear your thoughts!

One of my favorite shows 🎉
the kittens represent them
Great choice for reaction, this is gonna be great:)
I hope you do Bly Manor as well. I love Hill House but Bly is in my top 5 shows ever:)
Love your content:)
If it’s getting blurry and grainy, that’s not Netflix. It’s most likely your WiFi.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THR BENT NECK LADY EPISODE
Omg this is my favorite show
Ahhh so excited you're watching this!! Honestly I loved bly manor too but hill house is perfect to me 🤍
Great show to react to, hope you enjoy it. Regarding face blindness its a real condition more commonly called Prosopagnosia.
As are we, so thank you!
this is one of the best pieces of media ever. i’ve rewatched it so many times, and it’s so so special to me. it’s not even the best of horror, it’s just one of the best period. enjoy!!
killers with knives that can get shot hundreds of times get killed hundreds of times get chopped up into tiny pieces but then come back in the next movie? seems pretty supernatural to me
This show is incredible. Easily Flanagan's best. Looking forward to the next video.
I'm watching this show because you mentioned one of the characters reminds you of Lana. Is it the Mom?
Face blindness, girl. Ya got it
Please watch the rest of the episodes it just gets better🐑❤
Keep your eyes peeled for hidden Ghosts as they are everywhere, Cass.
