    Inflation hits people a lot harder than a crashing stock or housing market as it directly affects people's cost of living that people immediately feel the impact of it. Not surprising negative market sentiment is so high now, We really need help to survive in this Economy. The fin-Market;s have underperformed the U.S economy as fear of inflation hammers the prices of stock;s and bonds. My portfolio of $250k is down to $172k any recommendation;s to scale up my return;s during this crash will be highly appreciated.

    • @DamienTalksMoney
      @DamienTalksMoney  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Greta,
      That depends on how much you earn. You would need to earn more than £12,000 in capital gains (growth in the stock) before you had to pay tax, or more than £2,000 in dividend payments in a year.
      So unless you have some serious gains, you are probably not at that level yet?

    Hey DAMIEN, Thanks for all your hard work in getting the money message out there. I have a question. Given theses limits have stood for some years now, how might you begin to lobby the FCSC's paltry £85k limit. Given ISA utilization for tax sheltering and, as such, is required to be a long-term deal. Surely it's time these limits were raised for such investment requirements?

    Hi Greg,
    In the ISA window, there are 2 sections 'Investments' and 'Pie'. I am new to all of this, so my investment is £250 but my pie says only £83. I want to know why that is ? As its an ISA, I thought this would be the same on both. My pie is made up of the same shares as my investments. I am now confused if I will get my money back in 10 years, as I can only withdraw from the ISA Pie section. When I try to withdraw from the investment side, I can't withdraw anything. Therefore, can I transfer the funds from the ISA Investment to ISA Pie ?

    Hi Damo, great video again! I've been using Trading 212 for the last week (+ Freetrade) based on your videos, you're welcome for the free shares :P I've got a question: If Trading 212 doesn't charge any money (other than the different buy /sell prices), why would I not just use Trading 212 instead of Vanguard for my long term VUSA investment? Is Trading 212 actually cheaper since Vanguard has about 0.22% fees (charged on my entire portfolio), whereas Trading 212 doesnt? Or, does the difference in buy/sell prices effectively mean that Trading 212 is actually the same as or more expensive than Vanguard in the long run? This is just from a financial POV, because of course, there's the advantage of using a separate independent platform like Vanguard which I hardly ever check for long term investing, and leaving T212 for short term bets on Cineworld lmao...

    • @DamienTalksMoney
      @DamienTalksMoney  3 роки тому +1

      Hi mate great question!
      So there is the difference between the buy and sell price, but there are also fees for the ETF similar to the fees Vanguard apply on their index funds.
      so it isn't like they are free. It is often the case that ETFs work out cheaper. even when you consider these fees.
      From April I will likely be using either freetrade or 212 as my main isa provider for the next year, I will do a video in may on this and explore who i think is the best option overall. As again its a balance between the ISA fees freetrade charge and the buy and sell price difference 212 apply. It is never a simple answer is it.... haha
      I defo think the set it and forget it argument is to be considered also and I also think it is wise to open a new ISA each year with a different provider so you can build different pots with different providers that all have their own 85k cover with the FSCS. I can see that by the time I retire I will have a fair few pots like 5/6 all with different providers all with the 85k cover. As personally I wouldn't want a million quid inside a 212 account as they are a relatively new platform.
      I hope those early morning ramblings make at least a bit of sense Greg! this is a question I ponder all the time at the min.
      Thank you so much for watching and for using my link! if you don't get a free share within 3 days let me know and we will go to war!

    Nice one Damien; it's been amazing watching the quality of your vids improve with each one! Now, I have a Vanguard ISA, but after watching your vid I am not seeing a financial downside to having my ISA with Trading 212 and just purchasing Vanguard Index Funds through the T212 app. Wouldn't I be better off doing this, on the off chance that I also have some success with short term investing in individual stocks? Would love to know you thoughts on this, thanks!

    • @DamienTalksMoney
      @DamienTalksMoney  3 роки тому +7

      Hi!
      Thanks so much for your kind words on the videos made up that you think they are improving! So if i am being honest in April I will probably be switching to 212 or freetrade as my main ISA provider for the points you have highlighted here. These platforms have come out of nowhere really and just completely changed the game.
      I want the ability to both invest in index funds and pounce on short term stuff inside of an ISA. But i also think it is wise to open a new ISA each year with a different provider so you can build different pots with different providers that all have their own 85k cover with the FSCS. I can see that by the time i retire i will have a far few pots like 5/6 all with different providers all with the 85k cover.
      Hope that helps and isn't too confusing!

Other smaller cap stocks when you place a buy order, all at market (both during and closed market) you are waiting an Earth for it to be executed. I’ve been waiting nearly a week for one trade currently as it’s still pending so debating cancelling the order. Just wondering why is this please? @Damien Talks Money

      Basically mate it all comes down to the fact with something like the S&P so many people buying and selling constantly orders always go through instantly. But with some of the small companies you will need to wait for someone to be selling or buying, This can be an issue with a rapidly rising small stocks as no holding them wants to sell them.

For example if i open a new account and share a link with my friend. Will we both receive free share?. In their terms they wrote that As of 11. 01. 2021 no new invite links will be provided. Regards. If you are protected up to £85,000, is that £85,000 sitting in cash in your account as well as the stocks you own, or just the value of cash and stocks held within the app? For example if I have £1m+ after 40 years, am I only protected up to £85k?

    Hi Damien, love your videos, Ive started investing at vanguard and T212, but Im a bit confused about the ongoing fees when buying funds on T212, they are not displayed? Where as on Vanguard they are very cleared easy to find. I chatted to Trading 212 yesterday and he said there were no ongoing fees for funds (index or otherwise) on Trading 212, but can that really be right? Of course the Vanguard and index funds must still charge their fees no?

I prefer to manage myself rather than opening in a bank where they probably won't manage it with as much care as I would. How do I get the ISA option in trading 212? If you have 2 S&S ISAs - opened in different years, can you for example put 10k in each, in a tax year or are you restricted to putting IN only one ISA per year. I'm seeing differing advice..! Help!
    I would like to put in X into vanguard indexes for long term, and put some on individual stocks both as ISAs but think it breaks the ISA rules to do it in the same tax year?

    • @DamienTalksMoney
      @DamienTalksMoney  3 роки тому

      Hi mate!
      So you can have different ISA but you can only pay into 1 each year. so in April the 20k limit resets and which ever Isa you pay into first that is the only one you can pay into that financial year.
      April is just round the corner though and I also think it is wise to open a new ISA each year with a different provider so you can build different pots with different providers that all have their own 85k cover with the FSCS. I can see that by the time i retire i will have a far few pots like 5/6 all with different providers all with the 85k cover.
      Hope that helps buddy. been meaning to ask is that black eye yours? She is a beauty.

    Hi Damien, Are you using an Android or Apple phone? The reason I ask is because I downloaded the app onto my iPhone and the layout is very different to that displayed in your video, hence very confusing. One other niggle I have is the speed of your presentation which is too fast. Being a retired teacher I know a thing or two about this subject. Learning a new topic or skill is confusing and this confusion is made all the worse by a teacher that speaks too fast. Quick questions, can you have an up and run in account with Vanguard as well as one with trading 212 or freetrade (2 accounts all together)? Is that allowed?

      Yes indeed you do get what you pay for and recent crashes would concern me if I was a trader and needed to react quickly to news. To buy or sell a position.
      But as someone who buys and holds. It doesn’t really concern me! As I rarely rush to a share based on a bit of news. I do think you need to monitor the hidden fees. Like the spread on 212. This can actually add up if you trade a lot.

    Secondly, I've got 2 questions
    1)If you open an account on Vanguard and you are using a Vanguard ISA, can you use that same ISA when opening an account on Trading212?
    2) How much of a difference makes to have index fund investing in Vanguard and share investing in Trading212? I mean, Trading212 is doing both as I got from your video, so is the answer as simple as 'go with Trading212 for both' or there are real advantages on keeping them separated.

    Quick question: I recently opened my first stocks & shares isa with Vanguard. I’ve invested in ETFs and a lifestrategy fund. So my question is when April comes around, and I open a new isa with T212, is it worth me selling my vanguard shares and reinvesting the money into the same fund but on T212, as T212 don’t allow isa transfer of funds? Or should I just continue my monthly investments until April and then just leave my Vanguard alone to grow as is and redirect my investments from April onwards to T212 isa? Grateful for your advice on this, as I’m starting to think opening my vanguard isa wasn’t the best move compared to T212!

    Hi Damien,
    Thanks for the great vid and helpful info. I have a question about a stock ISA. I know the UK limit it £20,000 for putting money into a stock ISA. My question is:
    Say I put £20,000 in and, let's say I make £2,000 profit on a share. My balance is now £22,000 (minus whatever fees, etc). Can I buy another share with that £2000 profit (if the profit has always remained in the stock ISA), or will that count as going over my allowance?
    I think I read somewhere that you can, but I can't find the source of that info and googling it again is not showing me the answer. So I'd really appreciate some clarification on this if you can.
