I was ecstatic when I saw the DS cinematic remastered (the classic version had the same music) a while back, which is probably why I recognized the melody in ER so quickly.

Beautifully well said! But I think the Elden Ring theme would I have been better if it remained slow and melancholy in the beginning. But maybe as you progressed into the capital or fought Godfrey, the main menu changes to this loud and dramatic theme.

This is far and away the absolute best rendition of the theme in existence. It takes the original composition and elevates it far beyond what even the actual composer did for the "Radagon of the Golden Order" version that is in-game. It sounds *busier* without sounding *busy* and the vocals are used much more effectively. The additional instrumentation layering is just icing on the cake. I think the best decision made with this version is the heavier focus on percussion - it adds more emphasis to the rhythm and better serves to accompany a tense battle, not to mention it helps to keep that tension throughout; as though the track is the backing theme to a dance of swords. I feel like percussion is so fundamentally underutilized in traditional orchestra in general, as if many compositions (including the original Elden Ring theme) are afraid to bring it to the forefront. This is a mistake in my humble opinion, and this re-arrangement really serves to prove me right.
I agree this is why some anime ost that I've heard really leaves more of an impression than some traditional orchestral arrangements. The taiko drums hit like a truck
I don't know why every Souls game main theme having this 7 phase of grief vibe And Elden ring had the most powerful one when someone getting out of depression = Acceptance. Also that "Rise, Tarnished." Somehow giving me reason to rise again.
For the Dark Souls trilogy, it's more so a feeling of "The world you know is fading away" but with Elden Ring, it screams "Take back what was once yours, become a lord"
