Staying up late on a school night with my dad. Jumping up and down with him after the final pitch. One of the best memories with you, Pop. Love you. RIP
Same here... these bring back awesome memories of watching the Mets with my dad! A day before he died in NYC, he was asking who pitched for the Mets the day before...He loved baseball and the Mets!
This feeling still resonates with me . I was 10 yrs old living in QNS right next to SHEA STADIUM, I could see the lights off the clouds or a clear sky. The best feeling as a kid to see your beloved team from your backyard win the WORLD SERIES. RIP GARY CARTER. My favorite player #8
I saw this happen live when I was 14 years old...I wouldn't trade this memory for anything..definitely one of the most exciting and uplifting things I've ever witnessed...
Jennifer Loizzo , omg , I was 14 also in 1986. I actually fell asleep during game 6 cause I was so upset, thought they were gonna lose. My brother woke me up frantically when they came back to win. Made sure I never did that again!
I have seen the Yankees, New York's best baseball team do this 8 times in my lifetime......and congrats to this Met team....its a shame they couldnt win more with that group.
I'm a Red Sox fan who was born during the second inning of Game 1. So I was immediately anointed a Sox fan after entering the world on the night of 10/18/86. But that being said, I must say this: After watching the WHOLE series, not just Games 6 and 7, the Mets were definitely the better team and better managed. The Sox were a good team but very poorly managed. I was brainwashed by my family into thinking Buckner was solely to blame for the loss. With age comes wisdom.
flames24lightning oh ok...but were you in the game or watching tv or you were born on 1986 i don't know? bit i was not on the game or not born in thare😞 but i watch that on UA-cam it was so cool:D....if you watch it you well be so mad
You're absolutely right, a lot of things went terribly wrong for the Red Sox in the bottom of the 10th inning, 1: Two outs and no one on base, and Schiraldi couldn't close it out. 2: Bob Stanley made two HUGE mistakes. First one the wild pitch, (he later blamed Rich Gedman saying that it should have been a passed ball) second one they had Ray Knight easily picked off at 2nd base. Stanley never looked at Marty Barrett. Even if Buckner fields that grounder Wilson would have beat both Buckner or Stanley to 1st.
Thanks for the intelligent comment. In game 6 Clemens was pitching great. McNamara pulled him for Shiraldi, and then Stanley, both were a joke. And who threw the wild pitch to tie the game? Stanley. And the reality is that even if Buckner catches the grounder, Wilson beats both the throw and Stanley to the bag. Buckner got a bad rap for sure.
Keep in mind how long he had to wait for that. He was on some very bad Met teams. He was on the Mets when they were a joke of a dead horse. He was on the team when they were champs. How that team only won one world series is beyond me. Imagine if they had the wild card then. The Mets be would have been in the playoffs every year up to 92.
Was watching this with my parents and 2 brothers in my parents bedroom (they had the larger TV in there) and when Orosco struck him out we jumped and the entire bed collapsed and broke. What a great memory
The Kid is first to get to the mound and he is immediately train wrecked to the ground. Also, note the final hug we see here is a very emotional Dykstra finding Gary and giving him a huge hug. Now that’s true brotherhood right there. Love this team. I wish so hard for the Mets to do it again some time soon. For the fans, for the franchise, but most importantly for my Father. I was not born yet in ‘86 so I want to be there to celebrate with him for the next one.
I was 13. Just the second World Series I was able to watch in my native Colombia. Game six was the reason why I fell in love with the Mets. Today I'm still a great fan and follow every single game.
84-88 a GREAT team. 90, 98, 108, 92, 100 wins over those 5 seasons. Pain in ass Cardinals team prevented 4 straight division titles. in current format a playoff team all 5 years.
God Bless the 1986 Mets! Thank You for the Great Memories and Gift you gave to New York City. As a Yankees Fan since 1977 i was seriously rooting for the Mets to beat the Red Sox and WIN IT ALL for New York City! This was their Time Right to Shine!
