Rab Havlin gets 21 DAY BAN for this ride at Lingfield aboard Stowell...

- Oh dear... Rab Havlin and Stowell somehow manage not to win at Lingfield Park for John and Thady Gosden, as their stablemate Polling Day and Frankie Dettori manage to win. Havlin was subsequently banned for 21 days by the BHA Stewards.

21 days is not good enough. This why we see this shit happen!
Minimum one month, a maximum of 6 months, might make the jockey think twice.
This is just it, you have to set out a disincentive for this behaviour a 6 month ban end of, punters are not stupid cut this out once and for all and give us a break from any excuses
what was he thinking of...gosden said he won't allow his jockeys to hit the horse on debut and then Frankie whacked the frankel full sister about 6 times on her debut
i have had most of my betting success on the Gosden stable A massive irony here Havlin looses on purpose and rightly gets 21 days should have been 121 days So many times over the years when i have backed him he loses when he should have won but was crap in the saddle
It’s amazing how many people now say “looses” instead of “loses”.
An investigation should be held to decide if this was pre planned or just a god awful ride. All jockeys are at it. I've lost count how many times I've seen jockeys just give up if they not gonna win. Then horses go past them stealing the places. Boils my blood. and il tell you something I have never seen a female jockey give up as blatantly as many of the guys.

Ban is for impeding another horse...
@@AuthenticMage not true
No it wasn’t. Go read the stewards ruling. He got the 21 day ban because he was deemed to not have made an effort to get the horse the best placing possible. Near the top of the stretch he took up as if he had been impeded by the horse in front of him, but that horse was not even close to being in his path. He did that to give his stablemate some extra ground before starting his run. Then through the stretch he rode the horse passively to make sure he did not pass his stablemate before the wire. Should have gotten far more than a 3 week ban.

Its a very strange ride, early on he does enough on the horse to get the best position from a low draw just in behind the leader, he's travelling as well as or maybe even better than the favourite for much of the race then from 4 furlongs out he does nothing, eventually trying to make it look like he's riding a finish in the last 50 yards, stewards right to ban him.
Why do people have to start telling lies so that their way of looking at things sounds better. He didn't not get kicking 50 yards out by any means. He got going from the moment he got out of the bend.
I like how they race across a track the size of an airfield , yet they all run in a group and you get commentators saying things like held up in traffic or got trapped in behind , yet they had half a mile to pull out and run wide yet spent the whole distance running into the back of other horses arses , then try to look hard done by afterwards. It is almost like some races are choreographed beforehand it looks so false and ludicrous .

Im new to horse racing.. very new. Can someone explain to me what happened?
The reason for the ban will be "not giving the horse the best chance to win". Specifically, the jockey was indecisive coming off the bend, switched from inside to outside, back to inside (allowing the leading stablemate to go clear) before riding a half-hearted finish, never drawing the whip, and losing by a nostril. The stewards clearly thought it was intentional, it may have been, although it could also have been a bad ride by a substandard jockey with poor judgement of the horse and race-riding. 21 days is a hefty ban for what may have been a strings of unintended errors, hence the debate in the comments; if it was a plot by Gosden for the winner to stay unbeaten, the jockey fully deserves the punishment (and more), but if the mistakes were clumsiness, he can feel hard done by. My guess is the ban may be reduced on appeal to 7 to 10 days.
Excellent interpretation Tom of the skullduggery which John Gosden's jockeys unleashed tonight on us mug punters.

I think this ban was very harsh. Havlin should appeal. He was riding a horse having its first race; what was he supposed to do subject him to a hard race and sour him for life. The Lingfield stewards need to go back to stewards school. If Havlin had used his whip ten times or over shoulder height he would only have got seven-days at most. Shows racing in a poor light when a jockey gets a longer ban for being, in essence, kind to a horse, than if he had beat the crap out of it.

I cannot really see much wrong here by Havlin. The winner had won already and so had a bit more experience than the second making its debut and the winner got first run. On coming off the final bend it looked at one stage as if Havlin was going to pull to the outside of the other two runners until they swung wide and left a gap up the rail that Havlin switched to, when he could have carried on steering his horse wide if deliberately looking to get beaten and if there was anything dodgy here then I doubt the owner of the second will be too impressed.
The Racing Post comment state:
Jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his instructions were to settle the colt and ride him to obtain his best possible position. He added that the colt was a fragile type who had a high knee action, and that John Gosden had instructed him to ride the colt hands and heels and not to use his whip. Havlin stated that he was happy with his position in behind the leaders but added that the pace had slowed at half-way which he felt had not benefitted.
He added that upon entering the final bend he was caught on the heels of Scampi, after which he switched to the inside and his mount ran on well inside the final half furlong. He further stated that, in his opinion, the winner was idling in front and therefore it appeared that the colt had finished faster than he actually had and that in time, the colt would likely benefit from racing on turf with ease in the ground; Trainer's rep stated that he was happy with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given and that they were very pleased with this, first run.
I fully agree with you. His horse almost fell coming around the bend. As soon as his mount settled then the jockey pushed him on to try to win the race.

I haven't checked but I would guess that was Stowell's first run as he ran exceptionally green. I would be mighty annoyed if I was Havlin or the Gosdens for being reprimanded...the horse was unbalanced on the bend and it clearly scared him...the BHA don't know what they are doing if they judge the rider to have been at fault for that ride. I doubt whoever judged that to be a poor ride has ever ridden a horse doing 38 mph in it's first race round a track. Poor decision.

The jockey that finishes second got his horse into a decent position but failed to tell the horse to go until it was too late basically. This does not change the jockey mind set. Cause he's still been riding this way. Check most is mount for jhon gosden same tactics on first time runners. I personally think that he's just there to school horses.
People talking about 'corruption'...the winner was not a horse backed from 20-1 into 5-2 and landing a massive gamble. So many ifs and buts n racing, but I seen a lot worse than this go unpunished. Wonder why the BHA making an example of Havlin?
That was a weak suspension considering that it was the horse's first race and the owners and trainer didn't have a problem with the ride. He did what they told him to do. I think they succumbed to public pressure because if the horse was 9-2 and not 2-9 no one would've said a word.
Havlin should be in a band what a Fiddler.😅😅
I’m surprised of the ban. It’s not uncommon for horses to be rode with kid gloves on debut. What do they want? him to throw everything at the horse to win a 3 grand maiden and potentially cause the horse to get upset and jeopardise future more lucrative engagements further jeopardising a potentially more lucrative career at stud.
