Wonderful to see all your creations - certainly a very productive year for you, and not forgetting your spinning projects.. May 2024 be just as good, and full of health and happiness xxx

      Organisation is overvalued, I'm sure... Looking forward to seeing your spinning, too - did you ever move your wheel back to your sitting room? I don't think you did, but remember it was an idea at one point xx

    Happy New Year Lesley, himself and family. The only problem with selling my knitting machine is….I can’t use the term…whirly whirly machine anymore. I need to find something else i can use that name on 😂😂 funny how we catch on to things we hear others saying. My mum’s best friend of over 70 years before they died, always asked when she spoke to me on the phone or in person “how you diddling” i loved that.
    I think the doilies are fabulous 😂😂They are my sense of humour. I made a hat from a pattern on ravelry that says the F word all over it. For my daughter’s partner. He wears it when he is on site and gets a lot of laughs.
    I can’t modify to the extent you do. But i always modify the length of the body or the sleeves to fit me how i like them. I started the Rug sweater on the 30th and i will be modifying that so i hope i can enter that?
    The domino star afghan looks very interesting. I like that.
    Happy crafting back at you xxx

      Hi Pip. Love the sound of the hat - I bet it is much coveted.
      I had originally said no wips in the MAL, but I think everything from Christmas Eve onwards would make sense, so please do enter it.
      Cheers and Happy new year xx

    I didn’t grow up with resolutions and I’m so glad that’s the case. I think it’s a bad way to live your life during the darkest days of the year.
    You’re a podcast was so very interesting! It also inspires me to think about getting organized. L O L.

    My husband bought me crochet and Tunisian crochet magazines for Christmas, with a free gift of a Tunisian crochet hook with 30cm plastic cable and stopper. 😊. I will have more time for knitting and crochet this year than last, which comprised a lot of hospital visits, procedures and major surgery. I joined a Colostomy and Stoma support group on Facebook. Lots of members are from the US and, because my rectum was removed, I am now... 😅 Barbie Butt (men are Ken Butt). Wishing you a Happy New Year, Les, from me and Scarlett 🎉 ❤

    • @NotQuiteEnoughYarn
      @NotQuiteEnoughYarn  9 місяців тому

      Hi Christine - given the positive publicity that Barbie has received in the last year, that seems like a good name.
      Sorry that you've been through so much, but glad that you have come through it, and that you've found a support group, too - it makes a lot of difference.
      Good luck with your Tunisian Crochet adventures - don't forget to check out www.youtube.com/@VisitWithNanaAndPapa if you don't already watch Valorie - she's running a "stretch yourself" MAL - encouraging people to try new techniques or new variations. She's also an absolute expert knitter - full of tips and tricks.
      I hope that your health goes from strength to strength this year, and that you are able to enjoy all that you want to do. xx

    You completed a bunch of knitting this year. I’ve done my share but only one garment (my very first) mostly accessories, socks, mittens, felted slippers, a boat load of hats cranked on my Addi knitter and only one hat. I’ve got 3 WIPS going but those won’t be done until next year.
    I love your channel and very rarely miss an episode. Thank you for sharing your crafty goodness. Onward to 2024. Wish us in the US luck we are going to need it. All the best to you.😊

      Hi. Thanks so much and well done on your first garment - hope you enjoyed the process. Sounds like you've been very productive!
      Good luck - and wish us luck too - we are due an election and I get more and more worried about both the result and the divisions that the campaigners encourage. Let's hope that sense prevails, everywhere.
      Thanks and take care. Happy New Year. xx

    It's mid-summer here in New Zealand, which would normally have temperatures causing sweaty hands and large projects too warm to have draping over one's lap. But this season the weather is all over the place - imagine that! - and I'm managing to knit a 4ply merino baby blanket on the cooler days, with small lightweight projects early in the day before the heat kicks in. I'm in your camp, Lesley, with lots of yarn in stash. Several bags with garment quantities, but rather too many single balls (we've always had our wool in balls here in NZ, it's only recently that skeins have appeared on the scene. Bit of a pain having to wind them up, frankly 😒) So, I appreciate your forays into striping, and plan to follow in your steps. Maybe even join in your Modification MAL! Happy 2024, Lesley, and thanks for your inspiration and humour xxx

      Hi,
      I'm glad that the weather is enabling you to work on larger projects, but sorry that you're not getting the summer you might expect.

      Thanks so much for being here and all the best for the year ahead xx

    Happy New Year! I have loved all your podcasts this year and seeing all your lovely knits and spins. I love using up my oddments in stripy garments too! You are so lucky to have been gifted an alpaca experience. My daughter bought me a "trek with alpacas" experience for my birthday last year - and I had so much fun walking these gorgeous creatures around the countryside in Lancashire. They have such individual personalities, and at the end of the trek I bought some of their fleece to bring home and spin. I spun a lot of pure alpaca, and knitted it into a beautiful cowl, which is so light but incredibly warm.

    • @NotQuiteEnoughYarn
      @NotQuiteEnoughYarn  9 місяців тому

      Hi Rosemary - thank you - hearing your experience has got me looking forward to mine even more! I have an alpaca fleece that I've spun with in the past - I have some of it left, so should really bring that out for my next spin. Thanks for the reminder!
      Thanks for being here - I really appreciate it.
      All the best for 2024xx

The make along sounds like fun. I appreciate you pushing me out of my comfort zone. You have made some beautiful projects throughout 2023. I wrote some down so I can hopefully make them. I like the idea of working on a rotation for WIP’s ! Personally I don’t do too many cast ons (although sometimes feel tempted) bit I get completely overwhelmed with too many starts! I like to have about 4 maximum on the go and get them done! I think the modification KAL is a great idea and a bit different! Hope 2024 is a better year for you himself and especially your dad. When I’m plying when I have that little bit or a big bit at the end I usually just wind the extra into a center pull ball reattach the end and ply it all together if you need another option of something to do with your leftover single ply’s. As always glad to see you happy new year stay safe and well

    Thanks for the WIP walk through. I remember most of them 😊 I'm looking forward to the make along, there's something I made a right mess of and was able to save most of the yarn from during my Christmas Eve "frogging" party so I'll hopefully have a Christmas sweater at the end. I would like to thank you so much for all your weekly vlogs and podcasts. You are very good, down to earth company and I love your sense of humour.
    Rather than frogging your crochet boxy, could you use it as a vest over a shirt (in style right now and quite practical as it allows a jacket over top without the bulky sleeves. Just a thought.
    I hope your 2024 is much better for your Dad (and consequently you) than 2023 was.

    Happy New Year Lesley. I have just done a binge watch catch up of all the podcasts since September including the December weekly advent episodes - was lovely to see you enjoying your advent calendars!
    Thankyou for keeping us entertained in your busy schedule. Glad to hear your Dad is doing so much better.
    I am hoping to make a start on weaving this year - I would love to see more weaving when you get time - although with all those WIPS, it seems unlikely! I was watching a podcast from a weaver who makes clothes from her fabric recently, so talented (I think t was called something like Get Weaving, with Sarah Howard) and I began to regret passing on many of my novelty yarns, as she very cleverly incorporated novelty yarn into her weaving and it was really effective...maybe that's another way of using up those novelty yarns you have?

    • @NotQuiteEnoughYarn
      @NotQuiteEnoughYarn  9 місяців тому

      Hiya.
      Thanks so much for watching - you are very kind.
      Using the novelty yarns in weaving has been suggested, and is something that I might look into. Thanks for the weaving channel suggestion - that might inspire me to get the loom out again!
      I hope you get started on your weaving and enjoy it - I feel like a very inexperienced weaver (lots of scarves and not much else), so will look to expand my repertoire.
      Thanks again and take good care xx

    Hi Lesley, have a safe, heal and fun 2024.
    I was watching some video on the Gideon method for working through your wips.
    It was set on a twelve hour rotation, but I'm not sure that length of time would be right for me, but thinking maybe three or four hours then changing project. Of course, this is dependant on hands and fingers. Have managed to do a little knitting today. Just five, six rows on some socks, but more than yesterday.
    I've kept my fingerless mitts on all night and day. Along with paracetamol it's helped a bit.
    Hopeful you can alter the alpaca top for your sister. If it's felted too much there is always scissors and a sewing machine!
    Take care xxJane 🐑🌼

    • @NotQuiteEnoughYarn
      @NotQuiteEnoughYarn  9 місяців тому

      Hi Jane. Glad to hear you were able to knit a little, and found ways of being more comfortable. I get the 12 hour thing - but agree that it wouldn't work for me. I like to keep things in my head, and if I was working on each thing for twelve hours, that would probably be most of my crafting time for the week, so it would be a while before I got back to a project.
      Yes - there might be scissors taken to that sweater...and I said I would never steek!
      Take good care xx

    Hi there - and thank you for all the episodes this year, so many hours of pleasant knitting company! About the shawl from Skeindeer - it’s pronounced more like leasning (the y in Norwegian and Swedish is not a “why” more like the y in “symphony” or in the name “Cyril”) ”Lysning” (meaning “to put light on”) is not used in Sweden anymore as far as I know, (don’t know about Norway). But back in another era (when I was a kid😉) that was the month before the wedding, when the vicar - every Sunday for four weeks - mentioned names of couples who were to be married - and if someone knew of any hindering facts the should speak out… Hope you understand the meaning. So, basically it’s a wedding shawl, or rather a shawl for a bride to be…

      Hi Vida.
      I used to live near Jo, who was the dyer behind "Lime Green Jelly" (she started the knitting group that I go to). She ran a couple of yarn dying workshops which I very much enjoyed. Most of those yarns went into this cardigan: www.ravelry.com/projects/knittingordeath/all-my-favorites along with some other yarns of similar weight.
      I would certainly do more workshops, but wouldn't want to take it up as a hobby - for a start I wouldn't have the storage room for the equipment!
      Do you dye yarn? It's certainly fun.

    Love all the advent yarns and can’t wait to see your finished item (be it sweater aka jumper or something else that your mind brings to life). Totally off topic - I want to knit my first pair of socks. I keep hearing about different bases on your channel and other channels. Where can I learn about bases pros and cons, wear-wise, dye-wise etc. Which is best for sweaty feet? And lastly which makes best squishy socks?

    • @NotQuiteEnoughYarn
      @NotQuiteEnoughYarn  9 місяців тому

      Hi Norma
      A series of good questions that I feel unqualified to answer. Podcasters who regularly make socks, that I know of, include Mandy of Mouse's Makes ua-cam.com/channels/36fhwKFaOgTY4QWZOdbrPQ.html and Bente of The Epilogue Lady ua-cam.com/channels/WLhSWZ7JV7FevbWdvcRTYw.html
      Most seem to go for a 75/25 Superwash Merino/Nylon - the Nylon adds strength and the wool adds squishyness. Hopefully, the high proportion of natural fibres will also work well with sweaty feet. I think that there is a lot of trial and error - try a popular pattern (Hermione's Everyday has had the most projects www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hermiones-everyday-socks) and see how they fit. Good luck and I hope you enjoy this new "string to your bow". xx
