The crazy part of Chernobyl is that people are still dying from the effects today
HailMe after this generation of children that won’t happen anymore
Even children who where born decades after are getting affected
That's because that area Is full of radiation, and radiation kills you
no shiza
that's because of halflife of some radioactive nuclides which ranges from few days to few thousand years..
“50 thousand people used to live here, now it’s a ghost town”
Thanks for the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare nostalgia...
Sorry its Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare
Modern warfare 4 comes out later this year
Mangoboom 48 oh, sorry I’ll fix that
In the intro of cod 4 it's Gaz saying "50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost time" but in the actually mission where that line is said it's MacMillan saying "50,000 people used to live in this city, now it's a ghost town, I've never seen anything like it"
Geo mission failed we’ll get em next time!
Terry Harrow 3 yeah, that’s a bit confusing
i wish i could see a time lapse from the beginning of the disaster to the point where everything now has fallen apart
I'm sure there's a video doing that somewhere
Emilia HBO has the story now, by episodes. I started to watch it. Very sad and it got me angry and am only two episodes in.
hbo made an incredibly accurate show

Did anyone feel a pang of guilt when they saw the abandoned dog plush? For me as a kid there was nothing worse than losing stuffed animals.
Swallowfrost that looked to new to be real. same with the shirt on the table. no fading or wear or anything after 30 years ? mhmm k
Exactly, nature would've taken care of that stuffed toy in 3 months
ikr if i had to leave somewhere i would take a suitcase full of my brothers stuffed animals with me
either way it's still sad to see that they had to leave everything behind

The only Level 7 nuclear disaster ever recorded.
Lets go inside!
I don't see why not...
+Kolby Fleetwood It's not like radiation can do anything bad to you, is it?
He did say it's safer to go to some places there
Only two places are the most dangerous with radioactivity. The cellar which stored first responders clothing, and the reactor itself. No one is allowed near the reactor, and being inside for longer than 5-10 minutes could kill you. The first responders clothing is deadly as well if touched.
actually fukushima is also level a 7
*50 thousand people used to live here, now it's a ghost town* - R.I.P people who died in Chernobyl.

you mean pripyat not Chernobyl because Chernobyl is the name of the power plant
delete d I’ve been seeing that comment a lot, is it a joke or do you actually not believe Chernobyl the city doesn’t exist
Just imagine having to leave your home and possibly loved ones and pets everything that you love that's terrible and I hope the people who went through this are happy and people who died because of this are at peace
I've just scanned through about 200 comments and this is the nicest and most empathic one yet, thumbs up to you Jessica x
PUT DOG IN BAG
Sad thing is Jessica, they were told all would be okay and they would be back in a few days. To live in such a regime as they did then was something us in the west find hard to understand and to be brought up in such a regime meant you thought nothing of listening to the orders or you would end up in the Gulag. Some regimes such as Albania to even criticise the govt. for no bread in the shops could land you in prison for 10 - 15yrs. It is a mindset so different from today....
The "50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost town." part got you an automatic like from me lol.

The dolls and clothes upset people more because it’s suddenly more real. We know it’s true but it’s hard to fathom such an event and connect with people from then. But you see a doll, clothes, papers, meds, and more and you mind gets hit with how this was someone’s reality. Someone’s tragedy.

Remember kids. This is why you don’t build a city round a nuclear plant👍🏻
Nuclear plant is the reason why there are cities around it.
Whoosh whoosh WHOOOSH
JxeWarren - nuclear plants are rarely ever dangerous and almost never go into a meltdown and they’re actually better for the environment so stfu before you start saying shit
JxeWarren - city was there first
nuclear plants are actually safe AF, but a man's ignorance and a technology error had to be combined to create this inevitable disaster, watch the documentary, and the new HBO series is accurate too

Such a sad accident. I was staying with distant family in Germany who hosted some kids on the farm who came from Belarus. They'd all been affected by the radiation. 2 weeks in the cleaner air in Germany extended their lives by 2 years
I noticed Josh glows in the dark now!!! Awesomeness!!!

+BaddaBigBoom yes by electromagnetic radiation.
It must be amazing visit a place That is part of history. I love that vid. Good job josh!
No its not you will have health probs in future
Chernobyl is still currently inhabitable for over 20 thousand years its still way too radioactive it was once beautiful but now just visitng exposes you to the extremely still radioactive air and well everything or puts to still at extreme risk.
Abigail mills tourists go there all the time
Bernadette Jackson You cant live there however you can visit. You just need permission and Im assuming certain areas you need to wear protection. Its unfortunately a massive tourist area. Personally I think it shouldnt be a tourist area considering people have died horrible deaths. It should be more of a learning area. To teach what happened regarding the events that happened.
if you want I can bring you to the zone for the walking tour, 5 days....hm?

Didn't you notice that there is less mold or sometimes not any mold at all in the decaying buildings. All the papers still look kinda fresh. This is due to the bacteria that is not able to survive and grow in these high radiation levels. You also can notice that the wood is not decaying as normal for the same reason.
Woah i was not thinking about this. I was even like wow in surprised theres no mold here. Damm kinda mind blowing to think about
+Exploring With Josh keep it up bro love your vids so much
I see everyone complaining about how uneducated and how annoying Josh is.. If you don't like it, watch someone else.. Go to these places yourself.. I find it charming. A quaint look at abandoned places through someone else's eyes. I'm not here to get a history lesson, I'm not here to have everything explained to me, I'm here to watch someone who is enthusiastic and genuine, experience abandoned places for the first time. I just watch for face value.
He gets excited. Yes sometimes he uses improper grammar that can be semi cringe worthy. But his passion and excitement keeps me watching. He's pretty adorable.
Rail Oh ok.So that grammar is correct?Lol you really need to learn yourself, teacher.
I think that Josh is not really unpolite. Ive seen other videos of other youtubers, were they compare chernobyl to fallout 4

If anyone is interested, according to the book of vice chief engineer Anatoly Dyatlov "Chernobyl. How it happened" there was a nuclear explosion in Chernobyl. Because of positive void coefficient of reactivity, positive power coefficient of reactivity, so-called tip effect of control rods and very slow computing of operating margin of reactivity reactor power started to grow exponentially when the staff pressed the "AZ-5" button (it must just stop the reactor and there were no warnings before it was pressed, everything seemed OK) - there were too much prompt neutrons, so reactor acted like a typical nuclear bomb releasing insane amount of power instantly. According to Konstantin Checherov and a group of Kurchatovsky institute research there is no nuclear fuel left in reactor pit (at all!). And they also state that explostion were nuclear blowing out 90% of fuel into the atmosphere at levels of 1-15km. They visited almost all power plant rooms personally with cameras and found about 10% of nuclear fuel in rooms under the reactor. Konstantin Checherov got documented dose of 22 Sievert (6 considered lethal). USSR government told that 95% of fuel is left inside the reactor so sarcophagus must be built. That's not true and all the 600000 liquidators lost their health and lives uselessly. Just like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl power plant should be left untouched for years. There was no fuel and nothing to protect the environment from. Fuel was blown by winds all around northern hemisphere.

I would go there but I'm scared of getting radiation if you know what I mean
its fine to go there if your scared of it just wear a gas mask
Gas mask wont really protect you from radiation, especially if its beta or gamma it will penetrate and material. The only thing would protect you from radiation is lead.
@@gircakes it's not that. You wear a gas mask so it can filter dust that's contaminated by radiation. I'm sure nobody wants radioactive particles in your lungs lol.
b Ben many many many people go to Chernobyl and obviously don’t die. For you to be able to be affected by the large amounts of radiation you would have to stay there for a long ass time.
You’d have to stay there for a long time. Plus it’s mostly safe now as long as you have the device that’s tells you how much radiation is around you and when to move away from bad areas and stuff you should fine too explore it
To anyone that is interested, the medicine at 13:03 is Unguentum Ichthyoli, which is an antiseptic with anti-inflammatory properties. Basically, an ointment with the consistency of Vaseline that was used for wounds and burns, as well as skin conditions such as eczema.
Chernobyl wasn't an accident... The operators decided to shut down all safety features of the plant... Thus causing overheating of the reactors and the following explosion.. Just pure stupidity... Also there is still lots of radiation contamination from it, even in current cities around Chernobyl .. After monitoring the ground contamination for a decade or so, the government came around and took all the monitoring equipment away and said, "no more contamination!" Which of course is a lie. Farmers give their livestock iodinized salt to combat goiters from the fall out.
Candice Cart I watched a video about this and it said the workers wanted to know if it would run on30% but one of the workers forgot to do something which caused the machine to go to 1%. Then an alarm went of and the fire department came. The video had footage of the firefighters carrying people out of the building and then the firefighters started to collapse from probably get radiation in their system
"50,000 people used to live here, now its a ghost town" reminds me of cod. Pretty creepy

Thug life ._.
Z e r o you don’t understand what i said, read it again and take some physics classes and try again.
Wouldn't you get poisoned since the radioactiveness hasn't worn off?
this is what I'm wondering too
CaptainCupcake XD they only went to the safe places so no. If it wasn't safe he wouldn't have gone there and the people doing the tours would do them if it wasn't safe :)
3.5 microsievert/hr is pretty low. If you camp there for 1 day its still slightly less than a chestxray. Normal background radiation is about 0.5 microsievert/hr. So hardly significant.
I wouldn't camp there ;-;
CaptainCupcake XD: Radiation levels have decreased quite a bit since 1986, especially considering the half life of some of the radioactive isotopes expelled from the reactor, are only 30 years. Radiation will continue to linger around for 20,000 years, but there are places in the Zone where it is relatively safe to be around, as long as you don't spend dozens of hours in there, or get too close to the reactor ruins, or else things might get serious fast.
