Many years ago, we passed through Leadville while vacationing in Colorado. We stopped for lunch at that Pizza Hut on the left--as you drove out of town. I was hoping I would see it! I regret that we didn't have more time there. We were trying to take in as much of Colorado as we could on a limited amount of time. Beautifully done video!
OMG thanks so much for posting this. I had no idea that this is the highest U.S. incorporated city. Stunning scenery, history and vibe. Very very well done!
The "Unsinkable Molly Brown" is from Leadville, Colorado and survived " The great Colorado flood" when she was a baby. Later. She would survive the sinking of the Titanic.
Seems like a nice place to visit, especially for the scenery. Living in the Midwest my whole life, the views look spectacular. Great video as always, Chris!
My paternal side of the family immigrated from Ireland and raised my Father and his five siblings in Leadville. My Grandmother's family settled in Leadville in the 1800's. Have many relatives buried in the Evergreen Cemetery. I love going up there! Wonderful memories!
Stayed here in a tiny home airBNB for a week in may 2021 and visited all the natural beauties in a 150 mile radius and I still have sooooo much more to see. Mile high pies is the best pizza I’ve ever had. Need to go back
Hey chris its been a while since i commented on your vids this was a short but sweet video my room mate used to live in Denver just saying) keep up the good work on making vids for us fans thx man have a good day
When I was a toddler I lived in Leadville and I had cousins that loved there for years. We moved to Salida during my kindergarten years. But then moved to West Virginia. As an adult I'm now in Flagstaff, AZ not quite 10,000ft but it is 7,000 ft, similar to durango.
In the years following the end of the Civil War, my great-grandfather came to Colorado and lived initially in Leadville working as a chemist in an assay office. His son, my grandfather, ended up a chemist as well and taught at the School of Mines in Golden. The house and office my great-grandfather knew in Leadville are long gone but I often think of the raw energy that mining town possessed back in the late 19th century. Fun video! 👍
We have friends who live there who run the boat tour of Twin Lakes, a little further south…..The Leadville Colorado and Southern is a tourist railroad you can take out of there.
Ahh my home state of Colorado. Leadville is barely higher than my work’s elevation. Leadville has one of the largest Aspen tree groves in the entire continent.
I’m from Michigan, and adjusted to Colorado’s altitude perfectly. I never needed to adjust living in Colorado’s front range. I had a blood oxygen reading of 100%. I can exert myself at 11,000 feet above sea level.
10,000 feet elevation should require minimal to no acclimatization for basic tasks. Sunscreen and hydration is more important. Now if you went to Leadville to run 5 miles without time to adjust, you'd find it very difficult.
Yeah you don't really notice it, even when doing moderate exercise. It actually it seems EASIER to breathe. When you really notice it is the next morning after only having a few beers, holy shit beware of high altitude hangover
@@The_Conspiracy_Analyst i used to live in the desert at 4,000 feet elevation and would run regularly and it's definitely noticable at first. After 3 months I was good.
@@tacocruiser4238 I stopped doing that because data shows that intros potentially will kill a video. Most people don’t like sitting through even a 15 second intro these days. To those with short attention spans it can feel like an eternity.
@@ChrisHarden I liked the introduction, you had from the days you called your channel Nostalgia Tours. Wouldn't mind if you brought that back, myself. Or at least maybe some sort of very brief intro(like 8-10 seconds long), that uses the music and footage from that.
He went to Buffalo, Memphis, and Toronto early on. I discovered Chris’ channel when it was still called “Nostalgia Tours” and I saw his Detroit mile road videos, East St. Louis, Memphis, & Rockford all in early 2021.
I miss Leadville, I lived there in the 80's I try to go to Boom Days every year. You showed, drove by my dad's cousins house. Also went by The Manhattan saloon, I live above it I do miss my other hometown.
Forgot to mention, there is a song written about “Baby Doe.” She was the girlfriend of Horace Tabor and he wanted to marry Baby Doe but Horace’s wife wouldn’t give him a divorce. Many years later after Horace died, Baby Doe moved out to the lead mines and lived there until the day she died.
I was born in Leadville, in 2007 we all thought we would had to evacuate due to the mind flooding. Emergency sirens were tested and we were all waiting for it to happen.
We went here in 2015 and loved it, it's a neat little town. Ate at the Golden Burro it was really good too heard they closed it for a while not sure if it's still open. Great food and great people.
You passed up "Melanzana." A very sought out but hard to get fleece micro grid hoodie that hikers from all over the world want. You can't get it on line. It has to be purchased there. I have 5 of them. Hopefully more to come.
Completely left out Doc Holiday shot his last victim there .visited the saloon that is still there . And played the piano that is still there . And a scene of the movie Tombstone was filmed at the saloon. Where Val Kilmer played the same piano .
From Leadville's Main Street looks well maintained with hardly any abandoned buildings (if any) despite having huge population losses. Wonder why that is?
I was there in the winter 89-90..we got stuck by the biggest snow storm lve ever seen but the friends and neighbours made us felt like home the days we spent there, awesome countryside..🎉❤😊

You ate at pizza hut?? LUCKY!
Unfortunately it's not here anymore, the place is empty, but at least there's high mountain pies, a local pizza place
I ate at that pizza hut back in 1993.. was skiing at ski cooper that day.

Another interesting fact about Leadville-There is a large Federal fish hatchery, raising many thousands of native river species 👍
Nice!
Spent 17 years in Leadville before moving on. Summers are nice but I do not miss the winter.
It's kind of a dump. I'd rather live in Fairplay

I used to haul Miller beer from Irwindale,Ca to the local beer distributor in Leadville back in the day.

U.S. 24 ? Good Ol' Telegraph Rd. ⁉
It would be interesting to follow that end to end ... or even from the Mich. state line up into the Thumb .

There's a full pipe under the lake that appears in a few skateboard videos.
2-11-23 Leadville!!! Here i come🙋🏽♂️
You can also see remnants of the Lincoln Highway
Being from Michigan ive always wondered how my body would handle heights that high in the mountains
I felt like I didn't drink enough water that day, even though I chugged a 64 ounce yeti of water and had a Gatorade.

Burro is 100% plant based bow
AKA the Brass Ass
Great vid
Great job
Thanks!
Highest in Colorado on two counts. BTW in Colorado, elevation and snowfall measurements are the most important metrics for towns/cities.
Houghton, Michigan gets more snowfall than any other city in the country.

Great video! What do you use to get the routing info on your dashcam. (Time, Direction, route / street on bottom )?
Did you get altitude sickness? Driving over Vail and Eisenhower always made me have to pull over and lay down for a bit.
Just a little dehydrated but nothing too bad.
Yes it's quickly dehydrating. Drinking a beer at that altitude will fell like four beers!
The whole town was once a superfund site. Hard to believe.
8:06 I have drunken in the Silver Dollar Saloon, from England 🏴
Where is Alma mentioned in this video? Alma's highest U.S. small town !
Any scary sections on highway 91?
Noticed you were speeding when you came into town buddy. 39 in a 25 will get you a nice door prize in this city.
I was actually going 89. I think a few bulbs on that sign were broke.

stunning
No stop lights??
A lot of cities and towns the size of Leadville don’t have any.
Leadville is out in the middle of nothing and yet the home prices are outrageous!
… And there’s some hidden lead poisoning too!
My hometown!
Nice climate but not lush enough for me.

No i live here i never saw a snake i dont believe they can sliver thst high up bc theyd get tired most likely

Best city in America 🇺🇸 🏔️
A lot of the information in this video is in correct. I am a native of Leadville. You need to do your research .
A lot of it is “in correct” eh? Hmm.
When I read the title, at first I thought that this town had the highest drug use, rather than elevation

Please don't forget about Sasquatch! He/she is known to be seen in Leadville.
I have seen him myself.
FYI, the plural of woman is women pronounced “wimin”…
Yeah nobody goes there 😂 it’s too high in elevation for us city folk 😂
should go there to get blood test because they don't have that set up for us here in our superfund site for lead contamination. lolzzzzz
The highest city. Residence are either high or stoned.
I wouldn't put it past them since it is Colorado
