    My daughter is in middle school and has CP. Shannon is such a beautiful girl, and this is an awesome video! I'm sure that she changed Rob Loconte's life that night as well.

    I never attended my prom. My issue was social anxiety and I was afraid to ask anyone. Knowing what I know now in my mid 40's if I could travel back to this time in 1990 I would want to ask someone who i knew would appreciate it. Part of me just thought HS was just a waste and all everyone talked about was preparations for prom night and what to do after. It all seemed so superficial. If I went I'd want to do something similar

      I met my best friend now of 24 years in college who has CP and a wheelchair user with very limited mobility. We are basically brothers at this point in life

      Not everyone wants to go to prom, my daughter had no issues at all, she just wanted interested, it is not her thing. I never went to mine either and I have no regrets, much ado about nothing for many people.

      Please don't put yourself down like that. I don't know you personally, but I do know that there is a guy out there that would be more than happy to take you to prom. High school proms are a fun experience, and no disability should take that happiness from you. Best of luck.

    • @ambersdisabillitypointofview
      @ambersdisabillitypointofview 7 років тому

      Ben Montes thank you so much for your kind words but my parents would never let me do that and no guy ever looks at me or talks to me

    • @BenMontes1
      @BenMontes1 7 років тому

      Your welcome, and I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with guys. Not all guys are like that and eventually some guy will take interest in you. For what it's worth, I didn't go to my prom, and I don't regret it one bit. Best of luck .

    • @ambersdisabillitypointofview
      @ambersdisabillitypointofview 7 років тому

      Ben Montes I know it's not a big deal but I just want to have a sense of normalcy and to feel like I'm like other girls

    • @BenMontes1
      @BenMontes1 7 років тому +1

      I don't really know what to say because I don't know your struggles. Therefore, I feel like what I say is not valid, but merely open to suggestion. All I can is that nobody is same and we are all different. You shouldn't let your disability stop you from achieving good things in life. I can, however, see why you would feel like your not like every other person and I don't have an answer for that as I can never really put myself in your shoes.
      The perception of 'Normalcy' as I see it is all in the eyes of the 'beholder'. We can't control peoples perception of us. Some people will look at you for who you are, and see you the same as any other girl. 'Normal' for me is someone such as yourself who has a great personality and I can hold a conversation with. I think you shouldn't put yourself down so much, I'm sure there are a lot of great things about you that someone is bound to like.
