  • Fossils Exposed
A surprise unearthing of fossils beneath a Brisbane building site could fill a gap in the paleontological record, and explain how life continued after the dinosaurs. This treasure trove of fossils, believed to be around 55 million years old, holds evidence of the existence of ancient crocodiles, fish, shells, and plants. The find is remarkable because these creatures lived after the dinosaurs were wiped out, but before Australia's mega fauna emerged. Called the "paleontological dark ages" not much is known about the flora and fauna during this time. Mark Horstman investigates how this discovery has the potential to fill a missing link in our knowledge about what happened after the dinosaurs went extinct.
