American Learns Fluent Spanish in 15 Days, Shocks Native Speakers

- Today is my third week of learning Spanish (15 days total study time) and I logged onto Spanish Omegle and VRChat to test my Spanish. I definitely managed to impress some native speakers, which was really cool! My Spanish is far from perfect but I’m at a level now where I can speak fluently about a lot of topics - I haven’t learned this language to the point where I can talk comfortably about nuclear physics, but I’m pretty surprised by how much progress you can make by focusing exclusively on practicing speaking. It’s pretty amazing what you can do with an Internet connection during quarantine!

Learning Spanish through Stories?
The course I used initially to give me a good foundation in Spanish was called “Spanish Uncovered” by the polyglot Olly Richards, which is a way to learn Spanish naturally through stories. I really enjoyed it, and it seems to be an excellent way to get a good foundation in a new language. bit.ly/3pPB0we

Tu quieres aprender español y yo quiero aprender chino.

“I don’t think it’s fast” everyone bursts out laughing... OMG DUDE YOU LEARN SUPER FAST!!!
Average Aufa EXACTLY what I was about to post!! He’s frickin’ amazing at language learning! AND... it’s totally possible for ANYONE of us too! I’m also learning Spanish, beginning at around the same time as Xiaoma. The difference is, he’s doing it all day long, which I’m not. I think anybody with his dedication and the right strategy, along with the courage to let it all out there, warts and all, can do it. So XiaomaNYC... keep doing your thing, you’re such an inspiration! I’m following along!
I think that the fact that he does it for multiple hours per day also helps a lot, I've been learning French for about two months and don't speak it nearly as well as he speaks Spanish because I only practice about 20min a day.
A couple of years ago when I started learning English I got fairly good pretty quickly because I would watch English UA-cam videos for a least 5 hours a day.
@@atticusfinch3536 That he already understands how he best learns a language is probably a big reason for his rapid success.
😂😅🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@gjussaume Actually no. He knew Spanish prior to his "3 week studying."
I’ve been in Spanish classes since elementary now I’m a sophomore in high school yet this dude is so much better at speaking Spanish than me in just three weeks lmao
Maybe I could help you...
You must suck then
honestly, you want to learn spanish dont learn it at school. Use methods like Xiaoma uses (listening a lot and speaking with people)
school methods are very lame, that's why. try different methods and your spanish will improve way more
To be fair he's probably been learning it for about a year or two already.
Where are the English subtitles for the rest of us idiots 😂👌🏽
This is all fake!!!

Amazing job, man. "Fluent" might be an overstatement but, hell, getting as conversational as you were in just about 2 weeks is really a great accomplishment.
I lived in Barcelona for almost 1 year I can still only order beer in Spanish 😂
Take a shot every time Xiao says something 3 times in a row xD
So you're choosing death..
i think it might be him thinking of the next words hes going to say, kinda just filling the conversations with words, instead of being silent he repeats words, idk if that makes sense
It is normal technique. It helps
Dude...what a great idea the zoom meeting. It was reaaaaaally interesting. I'm gonna tell my niece to follow you. She CAN talk...lol
I did not expect to see you over here
When quarantine is over please go into Spanish speaking markets in NY, just like what you’d do in China town. :))
It'd be interesting but he'll never get the same reaction considering so many white people speak Spanish - it's not unusual.
He has to go to corona. That's the best to practice Spanish
I love how us spanish speakers get so excited when they see someone trying to speak spanish, we get happy and like to teach new things❤

As a Latina I can say I am extremely impressed by your Spanish you have a really good pronunciation and i think Spanish is a pretty difficult if not confusing language to learn so the fact that you know so much is blowing my mind (but also you speak Cantonese and Mandarin so im kinda not super surprised lol). Keep practicing, you're almost better than me in Spanish 😂😂👏👏
He's motivated me to push harder to learn Chinese and Spanish and Japanese too. I am so impressed with his drive.

As someone who's been trying to learn spanish for the past nine months i cant help but feel disappointed in myself at how quickly he picks up new languages, because he's just so good at it. If only i could learn it in 3 weeks ^-^'
Me but for 6 years
don't worry! he knows a lot of languages so probably that helps him to learn quickly. Besides, everyone is different and therefore everyone learn different. It took me like 4 years to learn English completely and I'm still insecure about what I learned, so don't worry you will learn. Stay safe.
Cuz he has experience to begin with
He’s spent years learning foreign languages so it is easier. Don’t despair!
Each language becomes easier to learn.

Ya... it's like saying: "You how did learning to spoken well." They kinda know what you're saying but they get a kick that you're trying.
En q parte?
Not SO bad like your example lmao but still. I saw some right verb conjugations, which is cool as he only speaks english and chinese, languages that have some easier conjugations, or none at all (cn). I think he lacks vocabulary though, it looks like he is kinda trapped on the same sentences.

@@hwfiori7105 Im native spanish speaker and I can say he spoke really well, almost perfect (if I judge him objectively)
@@hwfiori7105 Most people take 6 months to learn what he has in 3 weeks. It amazes me how people love to pick apart a new language speaker. I swear, man. He could have studied Spanish for 2 days and people would still be like, yeah but his accents and conjugations. Jesus!
Glad you’re learning Spanish, it’s such a great language. And you get to learn about different cultures by learning the language since every country has its own variety
Loving the series Xiaoma!

Lol, your speech pattern is interesting. Always in 3s! Love these videos. It’s nice to see people learning a new language because it makes it seem much less scary for a shy, introvert as myself. Thank you!
As a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and struggling with Japanese, I'd say your level of Spanish after only 3 weeks of studying is amazing.
I know you are talented to learn Spanish, you have a good foundation knowing Chinese, languages are sounds and you have Excellent hearing
It's totally amazing man. I almost can't believe that you reached that level in just three weeks, I have learning English for about 3 years and still have a lot to improve. Congrats man. Keep going
I love this! It's fun since I can understand everyone too, but I love how fast you learned Spanish!
I’m here learning Spanish for like 2 years and he can speak more than me in like 15 days. What the heck.
And he has the audacity to say he is not a fast learner
It's because hes actually trying to learn
Let's catch up...
Dude then you are doing a pretty bad job
Don't blame yourself, blame the system. The system tells you it takes years to learn; you can't learn a new language past a certain age; you have to do this, you have to do that; yadda yadda yadda... which is why the system is literally crumbling as we speak. Take control of your own life and decide for yourself how long it's gonna take to do whatever it is you want to do cause ultimately it is up to you.
Great job Xiaoma! You pour in your heart learning a new language as quickly as possible. You are no ordinary. Look how far you've come. ABSOLUTELY IMPRESSIVE!!!
I think it's good to remember that everyone learns different things at different speeds. Don't beat yourself up that it may take you a longer time to absorb information. Xiaomanyc has a talent just like we all have talents that he doesn't have. The point is to keep at it and engage with native speakers of the language you're learning.

You say “Barrio Chino” = Chinatown. You don’t need to respond many times, “yes” in Spanish. One is enough👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. I am just giving you a pointer.
This is good, and lots of progress.... but it’s misleading to claim its fluency....
Yeah, fluid Spanish of a three year old. LOL
To be honest, he claims he speaks perfect Chinese too. Uh, not so much.
Gary A The bad part is that I enjoy a lot of his content.... but I can’t respect the dishonesty that this is with viewers. For people really trying to learn a language, they’ll see this and be completely discouraged. His standard of fluency is so low
ExpreSSpanish I’ve been studying Spanish for the last few months intensely. And I have seen much much improvement. And I can speak better than he can. But I wouldn’t dare claim to be fluent. Fluency is about more than speaking. It’s writing, listening, and having the ability to express yourself completely. I still consider myself a beginner (almost intermediate).... I just don’t see how this is encouraging to learners. They’re gonna see their failure to be at fluency within a month and then just give up
