when he said "they're making movies for 16year olds and china" everyone laughed and yet it wasnt a joke.
The principle of "it's funny because it's true"... though I fear that the audience here really didn't see that there was A LOT of truth in that statement.
Well yeah he realizes and criticises all that and then keeps working for Disney/Marvel and participates in all that he spoke of in that little speech, so...
So the audience probably sees the truth in what he says, but they all just go along with it just as he does.
@@yomanwtfisthisshit well true however since Disney is such a large franchise they will have some other actor doing the job regardless meaning u could spend that money made on charities. good point tho he is being hypocritical.
Anthony is a smart man, but doesnt make him right. its just his opinion.
He lives in rich area, everyone got cinema at home.
But most people dont have huge cinestar screen with OP 3D at home, with great sound sorrounding system, etc.
Avengers movies are booked, but he is right about Tom Cruise thing, about going to see actor, but they don't go to watch him tho eather.
Tom is mostly action, so people went on his movies knowing it will be good action, cuz hes famous.
We have a lot of actors in the world rn, series, movies, youtubers, music, etc...You can be a fan of a fking dog on instagram.
He misses that, he doesnt like that he has to sign kids posters, while for example lets say Tom had crazy bitch and older people adoring him and bitches asking to sign on her tity.
You can still find those, hes just not in those type of movies.
Thing is, when techonogly came out, elder people didnt give a fuck.
20 to 40 years old people tried it, kids are not let on their own usually.
Thats why more mature people were fans and asking for his sign on a poster, becuase kids werent spoiled that much back then and parents didnt take them on every fucking event.
TBH - older movies were shit, they were all the same thing action or drama or horror.
A good actors only needed to express their grief realisticly in some moments and showing anger. ("Whats in the box")
And it was all about the scripts, now its harder to script a movie that was never made before, but some poeple can still do it.
OFC back then u have a lot of shitty actors and rare good ones, now world is filled with both, but a lot of them.
@@Kewryn You probably have a superiority complex.

I love how he states that Rotten Tomatoes reviews ain't worth shit.
Because they are shit they’re the “IGN” of movies
@@rogue8507 Rotten Tomatoes is an aggregator dude. It doesn't have a mind of its own, it simply collects all the reviews for a particular film and gives it a score based on how many of those reviews were positive. It's 2021 and y'all are still out here not knowing what Rotten Tomatoes is ffs
Rotten tomatoes is just critics either recommending or not recommending, it's not a score, and that's the problem
@@andreantunes8615 exactly! its being used as something it isnt.
@@andreantunes8615 Yeah, we said that about IMDB too before it was overrun by bots and finally bought up by Amazon. Rotten tomatoes or even meta critic is no better since they're aggregating ratings from sources that are being artificially manipulated. A movie rating depends on it's marketing budget more than what people actually think. Are you new on the internet or something?
Came back from watching Top Gun 2, and what Mackie says is absolutely true. I went to watch a "Tom Cruise" movie and it was an experience. Its no wonder they say Tom Cruise is the last movie star left in hollywood.
I would add Keanu as well.
Keanu Reeves has that kinda solo star power, but only certain roles are right for him. He's got a lot of trash roles, but he made John Wick(goat) his own thing like Indiana Jones was Harrison Ford

Most important statement he made “Stop remaking movies”
Yep, stop remaking....and 'making' lol.
Make me think of the gnostics belief that the archons were jealous of humans creativity because the archons werent creative at all. Nothing says not creative like remaking someone elses creation.
Specially with female role stars
@@Elias171 Lol, that's what there doing...whoever calling the shots(Most Likely Female), has no original thoughts; and remakes everything Femanist-ized!
Next there won't be any real people[LEGO], then they won't even need voice actors or even a studio...
More like, stop making lazy remakes. Remakes aren't anything new in Hollywood but the laziness that the writers indulge in is out of control. Scarface (1983), The Ten Commandments (1956), and The Thing (1982) were all remakes and are considered some of the most classic films of all time.
“Stop remaking movies. Just stop.”
I wish more celebrities were that honest. 😂
I wish directors would listen.
We all know they're especially not doing the women's rights movement any good by doing chick remakes of guy movies.
There is literally no point other than easy money. No art involved, nothing new.
Randy H I think people back then used to have a passion for great movies. Now everything is CGI and lame story plots.
Randy H that’s a very vague statement. If a movie is bad, you could remake it and make it good since the bar is set so low
@@davidk7529 Directors aren't the ones deciding that old movies get remade. The big studios who know that property once made money, or has a cult following now, do. The directors and actors that do the remakes, are just there for a payday.
If you're going to redo a movie, pick one that had a good premise but was bungled the first time.
Originality and good storytelling is what's sorely missing in the movie industry today.

After Thor Love and Thunder and the announcement for like 12 different MCU projects this has aged gracefully. Also my respect for Anthony Mackie has gone up; he seems like a smart guy and is not afraid of being brutally honest. Plus he is a man of taste.

Hollywood celebrities are not hot anymore
And for a long time certain actors were associated with quality movies. Now said stars are being put in movies with boring stories that have been done to death. Look at Will Smith's past few flicks. I rest my case.
@@NathanJennings1222 even recent Fast and Furious films aren't the same anymore. I remember when the franchise used to be about street racing but it seems like Vin Diesel wants to mock the MCU.

@@VooDooMaGicMan81 idk thanks 4 the info
One of the hardest hitting quotes in this whole shit “they make movies for specific audiences as opposed to just making good movies”. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But that quote is also bullshit because how can he speak for everyone as to what a good movie is? Movies are an artform and are is subjective. You can put 1000 people in a movie theatre and show them all the exact same movie and each of those 1000 people are going to walk away having a different experience to the people sitting beside them. Guess what, there are people out there who do not like The Shawshank Redemption, or The Godfather, or The Dark Knight, or A New Hope, I can go on and on. There is no such thing as a good or bad film because what is considered good or bad when it comes to something subjective like film, music or more traditional forms of art like a drawing or painting is all in the eye of the beholder.
@@isaacbeeby2528 You're taking the quote out of context and pretending like it means a specific thing when the context makes it clear that it doesn't. Essentially, you're strawmanning him, whether you realize it or not. What he's talking about when he says "making movies for specific audiences" is the compulsion to just PUT BUTTS IN SEATS rather than tell a story. Obviously all movies are made for specific audiences; you know it, I know it and it's very clear he knows it. It's about the art of filmmaking turning from "how to tell the best story with this material" into "how to trick people into the theater while avoiding the hard storytelling work." Again, context makes this clear.
@@Wveth I simply cannot agree with that as an aspiring filmmaker.
Yet when people make movies catering to minority groups that aren’t good, the reaction is that the movie is a masterpiece and everyone who doesn’t like it is a horrible piece of shit
@@sassythesasquatch250 I'd say it's more that whenever a movie or serie, or video game is perceived as pandering to women or certain minorities, and it's not good, some people will blame "woke PC culture" for its failure instead of simply bad writing or the managementnot giving a shit about the quality of the product, like they would have if they didn't see the work as pandering. Mackie's statements are on point, it's not about "wokeness", it's a general issue as he says
What’s even more sad is that the film industry nowadays depends too much on streaming services. They allow a movie like The Irishman play a few days in the cinemas and then it’s only available on Netflix. It’s a shame because films like The Irishman or Dune which came out a while ago are meant to be experienced in the theaters not just at home. I understand that things have changed due to COVID, but this whole ‘straight to streaming services’ thing was going on even before the pandemic. You have no idea how happy I was to watch Dune in the cinema.
Probably because of what Mackie said at the end; why go to the theater when I can have a theatrical experience at home with my big screen tv and speaker system and streaming service? Especially when I don't have to deal with rude patrons or potentially getting infected with covid?
Cinema should be optional, not everyone likes it and making those people wait 3-6 months before they get to see it just because someone is nostalgic about cinema is nonsense. Many of us have just as good equipment at home, surround sound systems, projectors or huge screens, 4K, HDR, and so on. Plus we have good comfortable seats, cheaper snacks, the ability to pause and go to the bathroom, good food, and no noisy brats kicking our seat, no germ infested dirty room you pay to get herded into like cattle, home is much better for a lot of us. Besides, there are loads of people that have difficulties with crowds that are being discriminated against if no alternative to cinema is being provided. There is no experience that only cinema can provide, and the experience cinema provides is often much worse than watching it at home so expecting people to pay $20 in order to watch it with a ton of people we've never met is absurd. I get that it was a big thing back when cinema was the only way to see a movie, but those days are long gone. If you want that experience then go see a play or something instead of trying to force your cinema on those of us that much prefer to stream it.
@@daniel4647 you are doing exactly what you say someone shouldn't do: force an opinion on someone. It is your opinion that there is no experience that only cinema can provide and that it is worse than streaming, yet you are formulating it as if what you are saying is a fact. No. It's just your opinion. For some people the cinema experience is one of the best out there. Some people love to see art on the big screen. Some people, including myself, love the experience of being hyped for a movie, waiting for the ticket sales, getting the best seat, waiting in anticipation for days, then finally going to the cinema, buying drinks and snacks, sitting down in the theatre and watching art in front of their eyes, being totally imerged by the grand visuals and bombastic sounds. THAT is an experience only CINEMA can provide. As you said you shouldn't force opinions, so I won't do that because everyone is different. I want to at least give you an understanding that some people prefer cinema above all other movie experiences, so it is frustrating to see you forcing your own opinion as if it is a fact
And now a year after your comment streaming services (or hbo and netflix at least.) killed animation overnight for a tax refund, with no way to watch the shows without pirating. (course not all of it but it was a dick move on the companies part)
its just... kinda all became cable again...

Sorry for the wall of text, I ended up venting a bit more than I should.
Difference is the scarface remake is so INCREDIBLE it totally erased the memory of the original.
Also... If the movies they remade was from the 30's Id be okay with that. Even the 70's, as old as oroginal scarface was when they remade it. Problem is they be remaking movies that aint even old yet. The Lion king is from 1994... By scarface logic it should be remade not now, but in 2045...
"Old" has changed. With this increase in movie consuption old has really lost its meaning the last 20y, and along with it the presumed assumption that everyone would like these "Old" movies remade.
When they remade cinderella, I was ok with that, cause its actually an old movie! Keep it up! Remake "The dictator" remake "Pinocchio"
Animation might even be a bad example as they barely age imo, and remakes are live action anyways, which I dont really care for. Imagine a new Snow white.. New, fresh animation that isnt jagged. More vibrant colorschemes. A more in depth plot with a stronger, reimagined musical score. I would love that. But no... Old aint old no more. Soon they gonna remake the truely great movies and everyone will buy it up. I hate this trend.
@@Mariocraft97 problem is, so many actors and directors remake the movie for the sake of burying the orig that they didnt at least consult the orig then add new elements for the current era. They just straight up do it without considering the orig material. This is the current 2010s im talking about because most of the movies since are remakes and sequels.
@@Mariocraft97 Don't get me wrong, I love the Al Pacino version so much. But the 1932 Scarface is pretty awesome too, and my point was remakes aren't necessarily bad, when you change enough of the elements to stand on its own merit. But I hate pointless remakes
"The Falcon is a movie star, not Anthony Mackie."
Great comment.
Damn on point. I miss the Hollywood that used to make movies with stories around real people, real stories and real emotions and not just VFX shit.
Finally an actor saying something that makes some sense.
Two things killed the Hollywood star. Pirating and CGI. CGI is actually a growth in movie making caused by pirating. When the industry started losing millions, due to pirating, it had to create a formula to combat it. That's why most big budget movies are 3-D models. You can't pirate that experience. This has driven the super hero, animation and sci-fi genres to the forefront and hence, we are victims of the good subplot or story telling of yesteryear Hollywood movies. We only have us to blame. Think about that next time you buy a bootleg dvd or stream a movie to your TV from an illegal app.

Tarantino said the same thing this year at the end of 2022 and almost everybody went woke 😂
keep in mind he said this in the time where everyone gets offended over everything
Because nobody gets to decide what objectively counts and doesn't count as "real cinema"
I'm pretty sure people were saying this everyone is offended by everything narrative in 2015 as well. Now if he said it in 2005, that would be different, but he didn't because movies hadn't succumbed to the MCU phenomenon as well as the remake/reboot era being in its infancy. I don't think the backlash is because of wokeness but rather because these kinds of films are such a huge asset to these companies who will pander to anything to make a quick buck including "woke controversy" - knowing there is money in woke liberals being offended but also in anti woke people being offended by perceived wokeness - and they perceive it often even when it isn't happening - (spoiler alert, you're literally being used exactly the same, to help the bottom, but think you're an independent mind for some reason, a delusion that also makes money). So I would imagine that backlash is more like these bosses protecting their product while profiting off of both left and right wing commentary, rather than some snowflakes who usually don't have that much power besides making people have a difficult time on social media (something also not confined to "woke" spaces).
@@ixapsyborg great comment, fully agree there's money to be made on perceive offenders and offended and goes both ways

I couldn't agree more. That show doesn't get enough credit for the important things at had to say and people are writing it off as the worst marvel Disney+ show only because it didn't have enough crazy superhero spectacle like say Infinity War

True but when guys like Batman and Spider-Man are so big what can you do it’s out of everyone’s control at this point
I mean tomayto/tommahto, superhero/movie star. Superhero is a prewritten character that isn't supposed to change much and American movie stars construct a character that are casted to play themselves, not you know adopt completely different characters. That's why they call them Stalone movies, or Will Smith movies, or Seth Rogan movies, they are expected to play the character they always play and only once in a blue moon deviate from that character they've crafted. Right now on netflix, they've lost Henry Cavill as the Witcher, but netflix are rolling out fake Witcher to replace him as if people won't care.
Hearing an actor in one of the biggest cash grab movie series say the same things everyone has been saying is a big turnaround and i have immense respect for this dude
In fairness, he still has bills to pay, and a long term gig at Disney is hard to pass.
Plus, he's been able to make some pretty big statements using Disney and the Captain America and the Winter Soldier TV show as a vehicle. That's also a pretty big opportunity to pass up.
Either way, Mackie is clearly one of the good guys.
Falcon and the winter soldier is pretty decent anyway.
Why is it cash grab, though? Just because it's successful and popular doesn't mean it's a cash grab. Cash grab would be if they did a half-assed attempt and didn't care cause they'd know it'd sell anyways, but even though Marvel movies are not perfect by any means, most of them are pretty entertaining and have a lot of effort put into them.
@@AguilarSquared Well, I enjoy the Marvel content but must admit that those shows and movies are made with minimum artistic integrity. Everything there is calculated to get the max amount of money from the max amount of people.

Right there, that's exactly it. This last decade this problem has gotten progressively worse. The exact reason Disney Star Wars failed so miserably.
100%
Tbh tho it's not as simple as that. My idea of a good movie might not be someone else's cup of tea. Most movies have a target demographic in mind. Horror movies aren't made for light hearted people, and rudimentary educational movies aren't made for adults. The issue is that these companies cater to outsiders who don't support their content and in turn neglect the fans who were there since the beginning. The people they cater to are looking for someone to endorse their agenda and when someone doesn't cave they bully and harass in order to scare these industries into submission.
What's sad now is people who still want to make great movies, or those who are still doing so, have their films advertised less, or shown a film festivals. There are so many great films that come out every year, but companies won't advertise them because they haven't been designed to make money. If your film is great, word of mouth will spread and people will go and see those movies, but now companies have to manufacture Hype, and reviews, and spam adverts on "films" that are effectively theme park attraction.

@@gamechanger0158 Interesting that you say that when, if you look at recent movies, the only ones I'd say are just good movies are horror movies. Like Quiet Place and Invisible Man. Maybe that's just my opinion, though.
They won't stop making bad movies as long as people all around the globe go to see them. Most people aren't movie nerds, they are just in it for the entertainment. I experienced this first hand: I am a movie nut, but not a Trekkie. So, I went to see J.J.'s Star Trek reboot, and liked it. The Trekkies didn't like it - and I get why. Star Trek remade had nothing to do with TNG or TOS. It was basically J.J.'s demo reel for Star Wars. So, I liked it because I did not have a pre-formed opinion about how Star Trek should be. The same goes for movies in general. I want to watch well-made movies because I care about them, but I am not the norm. The norm just wants entertainment. And Marvel movies are blockbuster entertainment at its finest. That doesn't mean they are all well-made, but they fit the bill for most people. And that's what counts to the financiers. Also, most movies are remakes, reboots or sequels or prequels because they are safe bets that way. If mommy like Arielle in the 90s, then she will take her daughter to see the reboot because (1) she's curious herself and wants to go down nostalia lane, and (2) because she wants her daughter to experience the same magic she felt. For the producers, it's safe and why should they risk money on a concept that hasn't been proven yet? It's money. It's tough to invest in something you don't know will work out, but it's easy if you know that you have an audience already. w
