On data safety, everyone should play OSRS growing up, so they can fall for their first scam in a low-risk enviroment.

    • @wanderbots
      @wanderbots  5 місяців тому +15

Yuuup. I never got scammed, but I did get tricked into mining ore for a friend and selling it to him for half their usual market value.
I ended that friendship very quickly and dedicated no small amount of time to ruining his OSRS experience. I invited him up to the wilds for a PK party, then called his house phone to disconnect his dial-up, killed him, and stole his stuff.
I learned a lot about online safety and people from that game.

@@wanderbots Teaching the internet safety is a difficult topic to even consider. Yearly I get to sit through training on internet safety, corporate security, and other topics of that sort. Every time it feels like pulling teeth and like their example actor was dropped on their head professionally as a child, until you look up and realize half your coworkers would instantly fall for at least a quarter of the same scams. Then consider who would even teach children this material when the generation prior to ours spent decades telling us not to believe everything we see on the internet before turning around and spreading spam emails and scams on facebook.

Boy, do I wish for the Crazus Detonator mini-boss, that when the explosion happens - he turns all rocks at the edges into gold. Also, imagine robotic enemies, special hazards (swarmageddon, regenerating bugs, etc.), and biomes like fungus bog with the slowing puddles! Hopefully, lots of cool things to come!
29:30 In my country, during middle school, we have a subject called Upbringing in Society. Ironically, that's the place where stuff about not mentioning scams and other holes you can unwillingly jump into got explained:
Logic with education is that if you teach young kids and adults about the scams in modern society - you're admitting that there are holes, gaps, and flaws within the system run by the people that represent you in the government, also it gives you negative view on society, your neighbors and teaches you that being cunning, opportunistic and self-centered is normal. This is obvious once you live long enough, but it's a much different story when spoken out loud and officially to brains that soak in knowledge like a sponge.
In short - nobody likes pointing out their flaws, no governing body likes educating people on their flaws, and nobody wants a nation of cunning animals in human skin.

Well played man, for real. But bro, you're must be subconsciously opposed to paying the 30 gold for a 50% heal lol. Should really consider snagging that when you are in such a good spot xp-wise, but a rough spot hp-wise!
Edit: I got to the part of the video where you bought the heal! I'm so proud haha

The Bob Saget thing is from an old series of videos called "tourettes guy". Also you talk about how mining makes you safe in this game but you're destroying all of your late game routes so early in each level which is super important for exp runs like 55 on recon scout. You can mine out little Cubby's at an angle for the zhucor and just sit there with the m1000 and the boom stick (focus on (kinetic and projectile fire rates ) and get like 25+ levels in the first area also it's worth it to salvage the upgrades sometimes like when you got pigeonholed into cold and electric on the zhucor. ALSO stack HP like crazy with recon scout. Since 1/4 of the attacks miss with dodge your ehp with actual Hp is amazing. It's like the tankiest class in the game. Dodge chance when taking damage artifact is also bait on recon scout. Knock back on hit and fire rate while standing still are the best while xp mining is maybe even better strictly for this challenge. I'm a noob to bullet heavens in general but I've been no-lifing this game and have like 80+ hrs already

I think the issue with “gain effect based off amount of currency you hold” is that it becomes “I need to hoard this for a almost crucial boost and forfeit any other upgrades I’d get from spending currency”. I think it’d be good to have it work in a way where it’s nice to have the benefit when you have it and still let you spend it for other stuff, while not gutting your build without it.

I've recently picked up the game because of your videos and I must say you're on point about the mining thing. I for the most part am not a big fan of survivors because you have very little control over what's happening and the whole thing is essentially just a DPS race. But being able to mine adds a whole new dimension to the game which I love (and fixes the issue I have with survivor which is the lack of control you actually have over the hordes of enemies). My nitpick with this game are the bugs which can be gamebreaking sometimes, as well as some other minor issues.
Also the game will most likely receive a bunch of new content over time considering how much love Ghost Ship Games put into Deep Rock. They even have a road map on their store page and it seems like there is a lot to come!

Hey Wanderbots. What you were talking about how do you even educate kids/young adults of the dangers of being online was my field of research at University and what did my degree on. Very interesting topic and one we implemented at some schools successfully. Unfortunately the funding is really not there to do it mainstream enough without by-in from government. It is now my job to carry that education to various groups, mostly corporate but we actually have some schools using us to educate their learners. Was great hearing you talk about what essentially been my life the past 15 years.

About the shipping thing there are also times where a product is only sold in a specific country so people will pay for a service that will receive their shipment then forward it on to them. Not to say that your specific case wasn't a scam but there is a valid reason to forward shipping on like that. I know specifically that it can happen with trading cards and anime figures/collectables.

Well the point with education about online behavior at least here in Europe is that school systems here are so archaic that it would not be possible in most schools. Very often the teachers even lack all the knowledge they should have these days, to an extend that during my university time we were able to easily hack the teacher that was supposed to teach us programming. Most middle schools here still work with overhead projectors and totally lack even touching the digital age.
But it comes down to politics really, educational system is pretty much run down cause it is run like a company which simply doesn't work.

When trying to make any build, try to get two of a weapon type to unlock the type's upgrades for the run. (examples: 2 grenades, 2 light weapons, 2 kinetic weapons)
Getting +20% damage on your weapon is good, but getting +10% weapon damage and +10% kinetic damage multiply together for a bigger increase

Trying something with the flame nades / axes / ... as first area weapons might also fail but be more interesting than trying over and over again to get that one build to work because you see potential in it

56:35 Was this guy who said Bob Saget aggressively a fan of the comedian Tim Hawkins? If so, this may be the reason. Tim did a bit on alternative cuss words where he read off 100 alternative cuss words/phrases that people sent in. Bob Saget was 1 of the alternatives, along with Pat Sajak, and Alex Trebek.

35:38 You could/should have pressed ESC to bring up your stats menu to look at what kind of buffs your weapons have to see if you even have any Kinetic-specific ones.
    46:28 🤣🤣
You might want to try triggering more of the explody bois earlier, while you still have room to duke out of their radius.
In my opinion, you try to use them to blow up their friends just that tad too much/often going for that perfect feeling of having used them optimally.
Otherwise, more please. Thank you Wander!

The comment about meta progression scaling down instead of up and at a certain point needing to just hope you do enough damage reminds me of one of the things I heard about competitive mobas back in the day. "You have to think of every game as being on a timer, because eventually your opponents will win. In this environment there is such a thing as being too tanky, but there's no such thing as doing too much damage". Basically, when your objective is to kill something, and if you fail to do so fast enough, it doesn't matter if you are nigh immortal, if you are sneezing on the enemy and hopping the cold kills them, you're losing.

The problem with the education system throughout North America is that its centered around memorization and developing the bare minimum skills needed to operate in the workforce. It really needs to be changed to focus on both life skills and how to actually thrive in society.
Very few schools teach anything on how Canada or the US political system or taxes work, they don't teach how Healthcare works and how to best take advantage of it, they don't teach you what you can do if you're low income or or what benefits and programs to look for if you have disabilities, there's very little taught on both computer and Internet safety, and there's basically nothing taught on protecting and improving or even just the importance of someones mental health.
Education at the moment is a massive failure for students, but it's unlikely anything will change because it suits both politicians and corporations to keep the masses literate but uninformed.

The main thing that's lacking in education, as I see it, is educating kids to think critically. It has always been important, but is even more important now when there is so much information of varied quality and correctness floating around. I have found that most people I talk to aren't really equipped with the tools necessary to evaluate the correctness of something they read or hear. If one receives a statement, e.g. "in two weeks, an asteroid is going to crash into Earth", how does one go about to test whether this statement is true or false? If one does an internet search and get two hits, one from NASA saying that no asteroid is going to crash into Earth in two weeks, and another from Joe Schmoe's end-of-the-world blog that says there is, which one (if any) should one believe, and why? An alarming number of people have trouble with navigating conflicting information. This problem is compounded in countries with a very permissive freedom of speech, such as in the US.
I grew up in Sweden in the '80s. Back then, the only mass media we had access to was public service radio and TV, and national and local newspapers. The public's need for critical thinking in regards of media, and media literacy, was limited, because we knew that the probability of our public service radio serving us disinformation was extremely low. People learned to just trust the news. Now, we have access to all sorts of media, and especially social media where we're exposed to the whole world, including malicious actors. We can no longer just trust the news, because those news may come from the Chinese owned Tiktok rather than our trusted public service. If people treat Tiktok the same way as they do Swedish public service (as I personally know some do), it's no wonder that many people fall for all sorts of disinformation about all kinds of stuff.

edit; on your whole internet story.
Kids nowadays learn a lot quicker. You were taught "basic internet things" growing up because, assuming you're atleast over like 20 years old, the internet was pretty basic as a child.
You grew up learning as you went because... we all kinda did. So if you ask me its up to us as the ones that know to teach it to our own children.
Just like how you teach your child not to talk to strangers on the street, you'd teach them about safetys on the internet.
