  • Here is the continuity of the AC series motor or universal motor re winding and repair. You much watch the previous parts and continue next parts to understand the process fully. It is not so difficult to re wind a universal motor by an average DIY. However I have shown every possible detail of such a motor winding to cover almost every aspect of work in this project. Hope this will be a nice series for those who are planing to learn the motor re winding job like me. The process could be a bit boring for experts but it is important to show as there is very less material available on the subject on internet. All positive and constructive comments are most welcome. The repair instructions work on almost all make and models of vacuum cleaners like

    Finally I find how to rewind an ac armature. Thank you.. Also if you like fan tips: Use a small blow torch to burn insulation off. It prevents chaffing ultimately making for a better connection to your commutator tabs.

      You are right but I am not a professional motor re-winder. This is only a hobby and this was my very first AC series machine I wound. But as I am electrical engineer, I know my subject very deeply and well. I can explain the things in much more technical way compared to ordinary people doing a job for years without understanding.

    Also, I've noticed the insulating material you are using.
    Is it like thin plastic? Or is it printing paper ?

    • @JahanZeb1976

      Thanks for compliment. The insulating paper is mylar insulating material especially made for the purpose. Anyhow if you don't find in your are, you can use film sheet from some old x-ray.

    So cool sir.. So you start from the commutator on that slot and count 10 over always? I'm guessing this machine has 20 slots.
    So if a machine had 16 slots you would count 8? and if 12 it would be 6 and so on... If you can answer that you are my new favorite UA-camr.. Always wanted to learn AC Series Rotor winding and it looks like I found the man. Thank you.

    • @JahanZeb1976
      @JahanZeb1976  7 років тому

      You are right dear friend but your question is dealing with motor design which is way difficult subject even I can't understand. The easiest way to rewind such a machine is to understand some basics as I discussed them here and then look at the old winding and collect enough data from that. Then rewind the machine with same data with new wire and new insulation papers in. Hope you may understand my answer. I would upload further videos on the subject to make it even more clear and will try to answer your question in further detail.

    Can you tell my why some starter motors have brushes 90 and some 180° seperation from ich other? I see some starter motors have carbor and some copper brushes which is bether to use? Wuld it by posibel if you for exampel use the ground leading brush and take that to a seperate electric motor and actualy combine 2 electric motors in series? Wuld that work? Useing the same power sorce?

    • @JahanZeb1976
      @JahanZeb1976  3 роки тому

      This is all about motor design. You can connect two motors in series but in such a case you will need double voltage input if motors are identicle.

    Is it only one times circulation or two times circulation procedure
    From starting the ending point?

  • @morojudas1866
    @morojudas1866 5 років тому

    That means you are going to repeat same style till circulationl complete
    ( counting three from every slot)?
    I have tried it I counted three only at the start and continued normal way
    by the time I got to the starting point I had two empty slots without copper tied on them so I was confused
    If you can brief me the start and the finishing

    Do you have to scratch the varnish of the wire everytime u loop it around .....

    • @JahanZeb1976
      @JahanZeb1976  7 років тому +1

      Sure it is needed to scratch the varnish from the wire when it will be the time to make it loop on the commutator segment for connection. The rest we will not scratch varnish anywhere from the wire. Hope you may understand.

    That looks fantastic, just like a new one :-D.
    It looks so impressive, you have reproduced the original but i think yours will be more reliable, you are so carefull to make sure its correct :-D.
    .
    Its a pity that you dont have a "growler" to test interwinding shorts, but im sure your carefull winding will not have any problems :-D.
    .
    The wires connecting to the commutators are often impregnated with some kind of grey hard cement, obviously to stop the wires breaking/moving with the centrifugal and rotational forces.
    And the varnish immersion would be the last step?

      O understand now! The same way as I have shown it here the vacuum cleaner motor. These motors are nearly the same. You must watch this video series a few times before attempting the job. So you will understand fully the process and will not miss anything. Also my advise if you may rewind the field winding as well if that is bad for your machine. As it was not bad in my case so didn't rewind it. If you face any problem, you can ask any time. Best regards and wish you good luck with your repair.

      +Wolla Loronusa dear friend I am sorry as I didn't draw the winding schematic for this one. Regards.

    So there is only one wire ?

      Yes sure. If you are attempting repairs, you may watch these videos carefully and hope you will be easy to go.

      @@JahanZeb1976 Thank you sir. I watched some of it and sometimes I believe 2 wires are used. The coils are made alternately then the 2 wires are connected at the end on a strip. It's still a bit confusing for me. The procedure seems more complicated on an AC motor than on a DC motor.

      That two wires or two coil at the time technique is used by machine winding. And some winders prefer to do it in manual hand winding too. Anyhow both ways have same results and same configuration. You are right the two wires configuration is a bit confusing. I personally don't prefer that way.

      @@JahanZeb1976 Thank you again. Please answer me the following question this will help me to understand well. In lap winding I always read that it is the winding method used for much intensity because the coils are in parallel but I don't understand why because coils are following each others so are in series. Does it mean that current go from brush to brush around commutator IN BOTH SIDES (all around commutator) ? This is the only way I see to understand this parallel behaviour. Thank you so much to answer me 🙏

    Ur video title is AC motor but ur repairing an armature for a DC motor.

      I am sorry if you misunderstand it. This is AC series motor used in vacuum cleaner. Check the whole series of videos from part 1 to part 5 then you will get it right. Actually AC series motor and DC motor is nearly the same with very little differences. Hope you will find the whole series very useful if you are dealing with electrical. Thanks for comment.

      Dziękuję za serduszko, ale zastanawiam się dlaczego w taki sposób (part 4) impregnujesz gotowe uzwojenie??? Ja robię to metodą kropelkową, po nagrzaniu wirnika do 120`C i podczas tej czynności wirnik cały czas się obraca aż do chwili, gdy impregnat przestanie spływać. Póżniej wygrzewam wirnik ok. 1/2 h w tej samej temperaturze. Nie wiem czym impregnujesz. Być może jest to inna substancja, która do penetracji uzwojenia, nie wymaga wysokiej temperatury. Pozdrawiam :)
