- Ferling etude in e minor on pg. 8 (Largo lagrimoso) from Rubank (Voxman) Selected Studies. The original etude is No. 27 from 48 Studies for Oboe, Op. 31 in c minor and is very popular with saxophonists. Lagrimoso: melancholy, tearful, sad. Boo, hoo, hoo.

I have to play this for my Honor Band Audition this year.. This is so helpful
I hope you played beautifully!
Your Videos Are Extremely Good And Helpful. I Was Wondering Could You Do F Minor (Gigue) It's Out Of This Same Book On Page 40. Please And Thank You
I'll look for this one, too, Jenna!
I love your tone quality! I definitely did this piece quite different in my interpretations as posted on my channel, but I really enjoy yours(:
Hi! This video is very helpful for my audition music! I was wondering if you could play Giga by Bach on page 21 in the Selected Studies by Voxman. That would be very helpful for my audition as well! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this!
Hi Emily, 56 is on my list! Thanks for your comment about the Ferling!
this was my state honor band piece for the 7th grade, very fun
It's not a bad piece to audition on for, but I definitely find it to be a bit quirky!
I'd love to see more from this Rubank book since I have the same one and would love a great reference!
Abby, I have pg 56 down on my list. I really hope to get to it next weekend. It's really funky! I'm so glad that the Ferling helped a bit, too!
Do you have any vibrato tips? My all region competition is on Saturday and this is my lyrical piece
How is your vibrato these days? I'm hoping that even one year later is it beautiful!
I love your tone it is absolutely stunning😍do you have any tips on how you got it to be so full and without the airy sound?
Have to focus the air and perhaps you may have to play with a faster stream! Playing octaves and harmonics can also help with air direction and lip flexibility!
@Luriena Hey thanks! I liked your video/recording! I tried to not mess around with the timing since some people asked for it for auditions and I know judges are really picky, so it's quite straight forward. I'm really glad that you liked it, though!
@adriana I really hope the B major Karg-Elert video was helpful at your all-state coaching!
This video is extremely helpful! Do you think you could do a video on the Gb major on page 56 in this book please? I know you did page 55 but I can't find any recordings of the piece on 56 and I really need it! Thank you for your wonderful videos :)
Hi! Yes, I can add it to my list of things to cover this summer! Thanks for your request and your comment!
Hi! Thank you so much for playing this! It has helped me a lot prepare for my Iowa All-State Audition in October! Could you also upload the C-flat major etude by Heinze on page 56 in the Selected Studies book? I also have to play that one for my audition! Thanks again for helping me!:)
What part of this piece would you recommend for a college scholarship audition? I'm playing page 28 for my fast piece.
Hi Claire Howard! I probably would perform the beginning. If you can play it very quickly, but with a great musical line, it will sound so impressive! If you already auditioned, I hope you played beautifully!
hey do you have any tips on how the get the grace 32nd notes faster?
Though you have already figured this out: I just make sure I play them slowly with a metronome and then speed up my technique. Also making sure I don't have to "read" the notes helps with building the muscle memory!
@adriana Keep practicing! Your requests are two of the most tricky ones I've come across!
@Musical Thanks for watching and letting me know that you like it. Playing in the hallway was really weird (then my sister's dog walked in...sigh).
Hi @sebastian! I have a couple more posted from the Rubank book and have at least two more to record before November is over. Actually, most of the recent etude studies are from the book, so hope you find them interesting. Please "like" them if you do! It really is a good compilation!
Your flute is beautiful- what type is it?
+Allison Roecker Hi! My flute is a 14k handmade Powell with silver mech!
Nice, I have this book too lol
Yes, many of my students use this book for audition music!
Is there a way I could get free sheet music for this?
On what tempo were u going?
Hi Kelli, This was around quarter=40 or 8th note=80. Very slow!
Sure, Hannah! I have a growing list and hope to get to yours shortly! Thanks for checking out my videos, btw!
Hi Hannah, pg 21 is currently uploading for you!
What tempo was this
I think I tried to keep it as close to quarter=48, but since the tempo is so slow, I subdivided with the eighth note=96 which makes the 32nd notes easier to place.
Hi Jenna, if you look up imslp.org for Ferling Op. 31, you will find it for free via public domain!
the other piece was giga in Bb, which I did terrible on, I slowed down far too much, but I made it in to 7th chair out of 16 flutes
Hey that's not bad if you had some tempo flux and STILL placed so high!!!!!!
