FWIW, If you know the feeling you want from a binding, you can get it from NTN. Out of the box, they are much more active, but so far ( Medio, Outlaw, Voile TSS) I've been able to get the neutral feeling I like. Best part is the much better edge control.

For holes that aren't structurally close, I've found that hot melt glue is a quick easy solution that is very waterproof.
I've not tried hot glue, but it is an interesting idea
