Hey I been following your channel for few years now and I got a question :) I just recently got armada 116 jj ul (2023), but I'm uncertain of where I should install the bindings. 1. I ski in powder 2 or 3 times everytime I hit the slope and rest of the time, in groomed area. 2. I do 180 and switch very often, no crazy tricks but love doing switch and do tail butter. My previous ski (super 7 2016) felt like nose was bit heavy for me to do switch easily, and was difficult for me to do quick and short turns on moguls and trees. Where should I install my bindings..? Thank you in advance!

This will allow you to weight your tips on hard pack, yet allow you tails to sink in powder. For powder/big mountain mount 8cm back from “true center”. This will make it difficult to get forward on hard pack, but you will float effortlessly in powder.

I set pair of shift bindings at -3 from true centre(factory recommended) but the front of ski feels really short - I feel i could go over the handle bars often. Interestingly the K2 Sights (2021 model) mid-boot mounting point is about 3.5cm behind true center end to end. But looking at the edge profile, I'm not sure I'd move it forward too much more because you'd be mounting the front binding on thinner material--especially if you have shorter skis and larger boots. The ski mounting point appears to be designed this way deliberately where the recommended midpoint is in the true center of the "meat" of the ski. So if your ski is not TRULY symmetrical, I would be hesitant to just blindly shoot for physical center.

Hey I recently changed the mounting point on my 2022 bent 100. I went from -5.8cm, up to -2.5cm. Made a huge difference, skis feels shorter now which gives me more confidence. But also it feels like the ski has more energy compared to -5.8cm. However if I were to do it again, I’d probably go for -3.5 or -4cm. I have yet to try the skis on a mountain after the change, only a local park hill. I fear that I lost a lot of all mountain abilities. So forsure, -3.5cm or -4cm from true center would be the way to go.
I want to mount the bent chetler 100's for all mountian performance while still being able to ski switch and ride a little bit in the park. Do you think I should mount them +4? I also love to carve around the mountain and go a little bit off piste.
Silly question : Can i put a race ski plate in an all mountain ski like Atomic Maverick? Race plate is supposed to be able to adjust back and forth the bindings without making new drill holes right?
Try to spend 1-2 seasons on full rocker skis. Your stance will improve. There is also swing weight, one more reason to move mount point forward. But generally, it depends on ski purpose. Chetlers are for bc freestyle, so mount point is set for freestyle people. But recommended point on old Katanas was far back. +2 or even +3 is fine for old Katanas. I am personally mounting +1.5 on my Volkl Shiro 193
Thanks for the video. It was helpful. Todat bought Ben Chetler 100 (188 cm) and installed Atomic Warden 13 in the recommended holes. Now I am worried that I was wrong. If I want all-mountain skiing (ride 60% on the race and near, 30% powder and 10% fun in park) is that correct?
Looking at picking up a pair of these and need some sizing advice. I previously has Liberty Origin 96's at 176cm. I'm 5'10" and 175lb. What size should I look at for these? 172 or 180? Looking at +4 mounting for more all mountain. I'm mainly stay on groomers and go trees with the occasional powder, but not all the time.
I love my Marker Squire bindings!! I can move them about 12 steps, so plus 6 to negative 6. Takes less than 1 minute to adjust them. Gonna hit some powder, move em back, gonna hit the park, move em forward. I don't understand why more binding don't have a way to adjust the stance. Its like having your whole quiver on your feet.
I like the way you start your videos with a G,day, spoken like a true blue Aussie! Keep up the great work, your tips have helped my skiing, from Down Under. M.
I'm going for an update here after two years. I bought the exact same Bent 100 two years ago and I was scared to mount them anywhere else than the recommended setting, even though the seller was encouraging me to do so. (I also have another pair of skis for more powdery days and I realized they are mounted 3 cm back from true center - Salomon R2 108 - and I love them). After skiing multiple times with my Bent 100's on recommended setting, I felt they didn't feel that good to maneuver and play around (It wasn't catastrophic either, just felt quite more difficult). I don't really go to park but I like to butter and land switch on small jumps, go off piste a lot and just play around. I then realized that the way my skis feel so awkward is probably because of the mount, not because I just suck. Anyways, I was thinking how much I should move them forward, I had no clue how much is not enough or too much for me. After watching your video I decided to go +4, that gives around 3,5 cm behind center. I think that should do it for me and can't wait to try them and feel the difference. By the way your tutorials are great and everything is well explained in detail. Keep it up!
@bryant.p1215 I like them better but I would mount them even further to -3 or -2,5. Not sure how far forward though. I don't think I can move them by such small increments either so for now I will ride them as such
Thank you for addressing this important subject! :) Its pretty amazing how much the mount point can change a ski, and the BC100 is such a good ski to adress it on. You can fix your -4 mount on the BC100 and put some binding freedom inserts in the holes so you can always go back, and make a new +1 probably or even more, I put my shifts on +2? iirc , skied pretty good there. ohh and yeah, permanent marker is surprisingly permanent on topsheets, even tried "biltema citrus rens" ;)
Any sugestions where to mount Armada Tst from 2014, recomended factory is 7,5 cm back from true center. My style is all mountain , everywhere , agressive carving, powder , learning how to switch and doing basic teicks (360’s) in the smaller park jumps. Thanks in advance
I need to upgrade my Skis from the 1970s Style Ski to Wide Skis and Mounting Skis is very much different from when I was 18 yrs Old ..... We use to use a Pencil to find the Balance Point of Skis so I really don't know if that is Center of Length on every Ski because it used Weight not Demensi on to determine were you would want to mount the Front Bindings and then naturally the Boot would give you the location of the Rear Bindings because it Fits Locked in with the Boot the Markings of +6 and -2 just don't always match the Balance Point in the way that I learned how to Mount Ski Bindings ...... I wonder if you know how to explain that difference between Balance Point and Center Point THANK YOU very much for the Information
Glad you made this video not a lot of people talk about where to mount the BC 100s in detail. I’m thinking that I’m gonna mount mine +4cm from recommended can’t wait to ski them.
Buying Bent Chetler 100 (188) now and thinking about bindings. I am guessing +5 will be great for carving and casual offpiste play, right? (i am 90kg and 195cm)
I just got my bent chetlers 100 mounted on recommended because I didn't know what the hell to do when I was at the store. I will try it out, and if I don't like them for switch, I'll go for +4. thanks for the video
@@TheElow420 yeah I like them however haven't tried them a lot yet. I think your mount is good if you don't go knee deep powder or super sonic. It will be good for turning and with the long camber I'm sure it will be stable. tell me how you like it
I have the old K2 Silencers. It is not absolutely directional but more on the directional side, and a park ski. The recommendation (boot center) is 6cm behind core center, and that core is about 2cm behind the absolute center. So the recommendation is about 8cm behind the absolute center. I am not sure where to mount them.
Hey. I know this is old but I have a question: I want to move my bindings forward. Is 2cm forward too small an amount to remount (meaning should I go 3cm or more). Thanks
So basically, I ski on a Nordica Enforcer 177. I'm a rather advanced skier, I like to ski ankle deep powder preferably, in tight east coast trees. But I have a constant problem, that being every time I try to nose butter I pop out of my Marker Griffen Bindings. Literally every time. I also pop out of my bindings when I put too much pressure. Do I need to bring up my DIN setting from 4 to like 6? Or what else should I try. I also run into issues with not being able to tail butte because I feel that my tails are too short and I cannot flex the tails enough. What should I do?
Well what is your weight and height? For someone riding 177cm skis and calling themselves advanced, a DIN of 4 seems super low to me. For reference, I am 5' 11" and 145 lbs and I ride about 6.5 DIN on 171cm skis
@@owenlockwood6460 Yeah dude you should get them readjusted. Go talk to a ski shop that works on your kind of bindings. Of course, you could do it yourself but I'd say its better for a qualified tech to do it.
Should the bindings be mounted on each ski in the excast same position??I bought my new Kore 93 last day and the bindings are 0.7cm off set between them in each ski,is that a problem??
someone did a jank job than, they should be exactly the same because it shouldn’t matter which ski goes on which foot, if they aren’t the same than you are slightly messing your alignment if you switch one ski from the left or right foot.
Was listening to this while driving and that horn noise scared the shit out of me and almost caused an accident. Maybe you think about using a different sound
Great video!! Me and my girlfriend are hoping to come to one of the freestyle camps next year 😁 Just to confirm, was it +4 you are recommending for all mountain performance (in the video you mentioned -4.5 from centre, but I thought -4.5 from centre would be +3 from recommended). I've just ordered these skis so looking forward to trying them out in the spring!

Yo, got the same and got two opinions from shop dudes. One liked recommended, about -6cm from true center, the other said that seemed kind of far back. Personally I like true centers but with these I think I did stay back slightly. Can't remember exactly but I believe I went the furthest forward on the recommended scale which is still a couple cms back from true center and I love it! Like spinning and switch and it's great fun with this mount! Not a fan of too much nose so if you haven't mounted yet hope it helps 🤙
For a true “primary purpose is powder” ski I’d mount no closer than 4cm from true center. If -7.5 is recommended I’d stay pretty close to that unless you can say from experience that you’d prefer a different mount spot.
What about putting the toe piece on the true balance point of the ski. That was always the way we did it. My Atomic Vantage97 188cm has a recommended line for boot center. But that puts my Technica Mach1 29.5 toe piece 3.5cm ahead of true balance point of ski. My friends 26.5 boots end up with the toe piece dead on the balance point. So the size of the boot makes a difference. So it feels like the shop mounted my bindings too far forward. I kept telling the ski tech about my concerns but he just blew me off because I’m 70 years old and he told me that this is how it’s done now. Remember, knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, but wisdom is knowing you don’t put it in a fruit salad! So that “factory recommended” line is just a reference point. Looks like I’ll be remounting my skis my self like I always have.
@@OzonysUnruly Candide 2.0 recommended is -1.15 cm from true center (so called Candides mark). And that is totally justified - rocker in the front is a bit biger than in the tail, so if you would mount true center - you would actually have less ski in the front than in the back (meaning contact surface with snow). When mounting to Candide's mark - you will have precisely the same sliding surface in nose and tail. I did mount them at that point - it skis just perfectly.
@@babunito ok I get it now. I used the center position that faction says to use but it's not actually exactly in the true center of the ski :) thx for the info Gabunito !
Hi there! Weird but I don't see my comment, thus writing it again. First of all thanks for the work you do with your channel, that is amazing! Second, I just bought myself a pair of Bent Chetlers 100 (188) as I am 90-95kg and 195cm. I have previously skied only carv ones and want to expand my horizons with all-mountain playfullness, finally. Was hoping to stick STH2 16s at +3 (-4.8cm) on them for gradual introduction to off-piste and some beginner level pops. What can you suggest? Am i doing it right?
Park I wouldn’t do anything over -1 or +1 tbh, but just remember you can always move it so just try recommended them get it switched if you don’t like it. The more you ride the more you’ll find the sweet spot you like.
@@raisebarhere thanks, also would you say its bad for my skis if I were to put my bindings in the center of the ski with the future existing drill holes?
@@hansvagen6078 not at all. Also if you get them mounted at a shop they’ll fill the holes in. But even if you didn’t fill them in, it makes absolutely no difference. If the holes happened to be in the place where you need to drill new ones, they use anchors for that and it’s just as strong as screwing into the ski itself.
Thanks for this clear feedback I personally ride Fisher rangers 92 (mainly all mountain porpous) and I find shovels too soft when carving hard snows and pretty rear locky ( even on soft snows) I think I should consider putting the binding a few cm backwards (what do you think ?)
Great video as usual! Everybody knows that this topic is very subjective. My case is that i just both Line Mordecai 186 and mount my bindings -7cm. from true center and -5cm. from Eric's recommended (witch is -2.0cm.), cuz i got confused. I skied them only for a day and cant give too much of a thought, but they might be too much back. That 1cm. could it be so much of a problem? Recommended Mount Point: “Eric’s Choice -2.0 cm / Recommended -6.0 cm”
@@nicholash8021 when a rockered ski is lent over on edge or in deeper snow the rocker becomes irrelevant. it’s just ‘pre-flexed’ is all. if you aren’t edging enough or skiing deep enough snow to engage the rockered edge then you don’t need that length in the first place. it’s redundant extra mass.
The ultimate mounting position hack Ok, here's how to see what you like in a mount,,,, Do a day on demo ski's you are buying, the bindings are for a wide size variety of boot. Use this to adjust your boot forward and back. usually it's just flip a lever and move it. Try it, change it again. Find your sweet spot and measure it from standard mount position. Mount your new ski's. Worth every penny to Demo day the ski you are buying and ,,,, the bindings adjust pretty significantly forward and back depending on how big your boot is. 9.5 is going to give you more than a size 13. So, there's your hack from a dinosaur. 59 yers of skiing. Mention where you got the tip.
It's not worth the extreme amount of work. It's so easy to mess up. Instead just let someone do it that knows exactly what they are doing. Plus because you are paying them, there should be coverage for if they screw up that the company will compensate you for it. If you do it yourself and mess up, that's it.
Binding manufacturers make a jig which is an adjustable frame which clamps onto a ski. It lines up the screw holes for the toe and heel for the length of your boot sole that you are mounting. Bindings typically have 4 screws at the heel and 3-5 screws at the toe. Once mounted the heel is usually on a track which can move slightly forward or back to adjust forward pressure. There are some bindings which you may be able to obtain a paper template but this involves lots of measurements, cutting the template to correct size and tapping it to the ski. If you don’t have any experience mounting bindings it would be a good idea to practice on an old throw away ski before you use a paper template. At the ski shop we use the adjustable metal frame jig which lines up the holes and allows us to drill straight into the ski. It is important to use the correct size drill bit that is recommended by the ski manufacturers. Which is usually 3.5 x 9.5 for wood core and 4.1x 9.5 for skies with metal which requires tapping the screw holes.
which mantra 191? if the 102 it has 3 mount points, wihch are basicly a +1 or +2 from rear which is 0, I did +1, but could easy have done +2. From center they would be like -9 -10 or -11cm
Always go for recommended mounting point. That's why it is recommended. The engineers who designed the ski know better than 99.9 percent of skiers. Fact.
You are mounting decisions are ridiculous. Either there’s too much tail or too much front of the Ski. I guess this is for people who ski in terrain parks.

I have a pair of bent chetler 100. I ski most on the offpist and pist barely any in the park. Where should I mount it?
@Young Tucan Nope, only the Squire from a few years ago did. That i know about anyways.
Don't you mean the Marker Schizo??
@@jeffreygreen9315 It is the Marker Squire Schizo, so kind of.
Lets go, i was just thinking about this, im getting bent chetlers

Thank ‘ s for very useful video , bro! The best i saw for mounting bindings for freeskiing ever! 🙌🏽
I got my K2 sight skis center mounted and perform beautifully both in the mountain and the park
Is it good on riding switch?
I like the way you start your videos with a G,day, spoken like a true blue Aussie! Keep up the great work, your tips have helped my skiing, from Down Under. M.
Isn't he from Poland though?
Did you ever create the 2nd video?
I rent skis but I still like to watch these
I'm going for an update here after two years. Keep it up!
How did it go? I bought the bent 90 and I’m just like you my style is freestyle with occasional park and I’ve been trying to find were to mount mine
@bryant.p1215 I like them better but I would mount them even further to -3 or -2,5. Not sure how far forward though. I don't think I can move them by such small increments either so for now I will ride them as such
Hi mate, I’ve just bought the Bent 90…regarding the ‘recommended line’, is that meant to be centre of your boot to be ‘centre mount’? Cheers
Wait, so if I wanna change where my bindings are mounted, I can?
yes@@frederickyang9137
Any sugestions where to mount Armada Tst from 2014, recomended factory is 7,5 cm back from true center.
My style is all mountain , everywhere , agressive carving, powder , learning how to switch and doing basic teicks (360’s) in the smaller park jumps.

Have you done it already. I’m thinking about going +3 or 4.
@@Dgibbs928 If you like to ski switch often 4+ is just fine. I found they still feel balanced when carving and in the air.
I have a Backland 117 with the shift mounted at recommended. Always wanted to move it forward but is it advisable to drill new holes?
Buying Bent Chetler 100 (188) now and thinking about bindings. I am guessing +5 will be great for carving and casual offpiste play, right? (i am 90kg and 195cm)
@@ispasskov carving on a bent chetler? good luck mate. just go center for your all purpose ski. +5 will make it tiresome in powder.
Go recommended. Always. You people are ridiculous
Well, I've mounted +3 and have been skiing in them for past 2 weeks. They are amazing with this setup, except hard slopes. Thank you.
I just got my bent chetlers 100 mounted on recommended because I didn't know what the hell to do when I was at the store. I will try it out, and if I don't like them for switch, I'll go for +4. thanks for the video
Did you like em? I just copped some new skiis and mounted em -4 and am nervous how they will ski
How do manufacturers decide where to set the centre mounting point on the ski, if it’s not at true centre?
sidecut geometry, and expected buyers group/use.
I just got my Line Chronics center-mounted, I'll see how it goes when the season starts.
@@nateleef5538 im 6'0 and 190. I got them 4 years ago when I weighed 140 pounds
@@owenlockwood6460 Yeah dude you should get them readjusted. Go talk to a ski shop that works on your kind of bindings. Of course, you could do it yourself but I'd say its better for a qualified tech to do it.
Take a screw driver and crank em up a bit at a time until you aren't pre-releasing. It's not rocket science.
Me and my girlfriend are hoping to come to one of the freestyle camps next year 😁
Just to confirm, was it +4 you are recommending for all mountain performance (in the video you mentioned -4.5 from centre, but I thought -4.5 from centre would be +3 from recommended). I've just ordered these skis so looking forward to trying them out in the spring!
Do one on new bent 110 please
Hey I been following your channel for few years now and I got a question :)
I just recently got armada 116 jj ul (2023), but I'm uncertain of where I should install the bindings. 1. I ski in powder 2 or 3 times everytime I hit the slope and rest of the time, in groomed area. 2. I do 180 and switch very often, no crazy tricks but love doing switch and do tail butter. My previous ski (super 7 2016) felt like nose was bit heavy for me to do switch easily, and was difficult for me to do quick and short turns on moguls.
Where should I install my bindings..? Thank you in advance!
So for the 120 BC 193 long you would recommend +4 for a guy that are not very often in the park. Mostly powder and freeskiing
You should not mount plus 4 if your main purpose is powder
For a true “primary purpose is powder” ski I’d mount no closer than 4cm from true center. If -7.5 is recommended I’d stay pretty close to that unless you can say from experience that you’d prefer a different mount spot.
What about arc center? My ski have not recommended mark.
you mean core center?
Always measure the top sheet to find the correct point anyway. It may be off from the factory
What about putting the toe piece on the true balance point of the ski. That was always the way we did it.
My Atomic Vantage97 188cm has a recommended line for boot center.
But that puts my Technica Mach1 29.5
toe piece 3.5cm ahead of true balance point of ski.
I mounted my armada arv 84 minus 3cm i dont know how it is
I have a pair of Salomon QST 118 18/19. Where would you recommend mounting for backcountry powder ski? -2?
If you haven't mounted em yet go rec, that ski has got so much tail rocker I've been advised to stay on the line
Just bought the Faction CT 2.0. They advise center called "new school". Will see how I feel on them :)
Candide 2.0 are meant to be mounted at true center since they’re symmetrical in the tip and tail.
@@GavinPasta even if tip is a 132 and tail a 127 ? Isn't all freestyle ski symmetrical then ? Thx for your reply Gavin :)
I used the center position that faction says to use but it's not actually exactly in the true center of the ski :) thx for the info Gabunito !

cant seem to find any info on racing carver binding alignment :S
If you added a link to your comment it can add up in YT´s spam filter. Anyway. Sounds like a good binding and choice of mounting position for you :)
@@StompItTutorials bought'em, mounted +3. Will test in 10 days, can't wait!
Thank goodness for subtitles...
Where would you recommend mounting the line blend for park?
100% go for true center
I did the recommended and now I'm worried, will it still be a good all mountain with some park?
Thanks for this clear feedback
I personally ride Fisher rangers 92 (mainly all mountain porpous) and I find shovels too soft when carving hard snows and pretty rear locky ( even on soft snows)
I think I should consider putting the binding a few cm backwards (what do you think ?)
My front bindings adjust so I can just slide them forward or backward
where should I mount my skies if i’m going to spend 75% of my time in the park and 25% of my time all mountain and in the trees?
I’d say around 1 to 2 mm from true center. If I’m wrong lemme know because I have a similar situation but 75% in all mnt and 25% park haha
@@bransonmanning7920 I think you meant 1 to 2 CM

Everybody knows that this topic is very subjective.

I skied them only for a day and cant give too much of a thought, but they might be too much back.
That 1cm. could it be so much of a problem?

They are more of an all mountain ski, but they do work decently for powder
@@ianholmquist8492 the 120s?

Thank you very much.

to find True just measure full length and find the midpoint!!
If ski is 184.5 long then True is at 92.25
True center can also be based on true center between rockers--which may not be center on the full length of the ski if you have asymmetrical rockers.
@@bimfred From a weight balance perspective, I agree, roughly speaking. But I was referring to the center of the actual contact patch.
The ultimate mounting position hack
Ok, here's how to see what you like in a mount,,,, Do a day on demo ski's you are buying, the bindings are for a wide size variety of boot.
Oh, If you buy demo bindings you can change it up as you like or loan to a visiting friend I buy demo bindings.
What's the music on 6-18?
Premium music from Epedemic sound.
Do a video on how to mount your bindings! Would be a great tutorial.
I mounted my Mantra 191 (full rocker, 2 sheets of titanal) on recommended and it seems I need to mount -1 or even -2...
which mantra 191? if the 102 it has 3 mount points, wihch are basicly a +1 or +2 from rear which is 0, I did +1, but could easy have done +2. From center they would be like -9 -10 or -11cm

In my opinion all skis should have a marker for the dead center
Always go for recommended mounting point. That's why it is recommended. The engineers who designed the ski know better than 99.9 percent of skiers. Fact.
A lot of pro freestyle skiers ski their pro model or team model ski more centered than factory recommended
Boot sole length will change that thinking. That’s why it’s called recommended and not mandatory.
You are mounting decisions are ridiculous. Either there’s too much tail or too much front of the Ski. I guess this is for people who ski in terrain parks.
