  • I will be removing the cable from my winch on my Ranger and installing a Warn winch strap. This will prevent my cable from getting destroyed while plowing this winter.

    I took a used recovery strap, cut a piece off and duct taped it to the drum. Once you get a couple of wraps its tight enough to not slip. Works great and super simple.

    How did it hold up during plow season? Ever break?

    I picked up a 20 foot 5000 lb double ended strap from harbor freight and cut it in half works great 👍

      That's exactly what I did. After 5 years it looks brand new.
      If it ever wears out, I still have the other half.

    So, how'd it work once the strap got wet and froze?

      It works great till your kid try to lift the plow to high. I just tied a knot back to the eye and it's been working great until the kids plow again.

      I sure hope so. I hate fixing cables. I did read some bad reviews on the warn strap stitching breaking. It looked like good stitching to me so we will see.

    Did you loose any length compared to your old cable???

    • @alaskanmancave5301
      @alaskanmancave5301  3 роки тому

      Yes, the strap is much shorter than the cable. The strap is all together about 15' long and my cable is more than 50'. But in the winter I will only use a foot or so of my strap. Come summer I'll put the cable back on.

    Can that still have a hook installed and use your winch for other things??

    • @alaskanmancave5301
      @alaskanmancave5301  2 роки тому

      I suppose you could possibly run a shackle on the end to hook to other things. But the strap is short so it wouldn't do much good

    How long did the strap last. Do you think it will hold up to an 8 hour day plowing sidewalks ?

    • @alaskanmancave5301
      @alaskanmancave5301  5 місяців тому

      Aa long as you dont raise it up too high it will last. I used it for my driveway for 2 years. My kids would break it cause they would raise it up past the plow's stops. I would just tie it back on till I ran out of strap. I never broke it once myself. I would still recommend it several years later.

    I just cut off the bad piece of winch rope and reconnected the tow hook to the remaining piece of original rope. Think... You got 50 feet of winch rope! Double knot the rope at the hook connection..

      How lofted do you get a break at the double knot… I’m on my first synthetic rope and was looking at ways to fix the end if it breaksss..

      I bought it through Ebay cause shipping times are way better. But this is it. Lots of reviews say stitching is bad and breaks. I have used mine plenty and had no issues. Works great.

      Mine broke the first time I let my kid plow cause he raised the blade too high. I just tied it in a knot and it worked great for 2 years. using synthetic rope this year to see how that works.
