- Happy new year 2018. Me and my brother Ralfy decided to celebrate it by eating a Russian military MRE (Meal Ready to Eat).
Ralfy's channel is at:- / ralfystuff
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-
www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm
This also keeps the channel independent of UA-cam's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty. - Наука та технологія
The complete lack of chemistry is delightful. You've got Clive the mad engineer just ripping stuff open and talking to himself, occasionally remembering to talk to camera; and Ralfie the serious reviewer always talking to camera, immediately describing the tastes and aromas. Wonderful that the algorithm seems to be obsessed with the Big Clive back catalogue at the minute.
It's not Ralfy's fault that crackers, plain.. neutral.. interestingly a different taste from many British crackers are infact oversalted... because of cultural expectations!!!
you two have wonderfully bad chemistry on screen... Its like watching two completely separate shows happening simultaneously. Its the kind of thing only brothers can pull off. Love it
@Matrix29bear I think you're missing the point & all the sacrasm in their dynamic!
@Matrix29bear They're such opposites. Ralfy would drive me nuts if I got stuck next to him in a bar somewhere, but Clive is so quiet and funny (without realising it) he is much more watchable. Hilarious viewing, but the food review was a bit of a train wreck!
Clive sounds Scottish but looks like he's from rural Mississippi! Not what I expected at all...
Plus you guys are Scottish, so I'm not sure I can trust your opinions of the food...
separate shows happening simultaneously.....it really is lol
LOL, I was looking for the right words, but then they I found them right above :D
i love how you're 2 complete opposites and how you dont even bother listening to your brother haha
You need to do an other tasting with Ralfy. Coming back to watch it again, three years later, it was still fun to watch.
I'm back here again 3 years later too 👀 having a good old chuckle. Clive's brother bears a striking resemblance to a old Scottish comedian who's name escapes me, I wonder if Clive would look the same if the beard was shorn one day? Is that why he keeps the beard?! 😆
This should be a regular series. "Clive and Ralfy: A Cultural Journey Through Smell & Taste"
Please make this happen!
2 Scottish partisan's prepare for an attack on British Parliament. (1969 colourised)
"we know where they will be when we taste them, when we smell them and taste them" ~ 1:44
Fridom!
I have come to this 5 years late, but, by god, Ralfy is not in a room full of mildew, and he has an amazing brother who knows his electronics. Life is good.
👍 I really enjoyed the banter between brothers . I'm also a late comer . Learn something from every video . 👴
The sibling dynamic between Clive and Ralphy is a beautiful thing.
They're related?
I lost it at 9:21 as Ralphy is giving us an in-depth description of the Vodka, Clive's face when he drinks it. So good.
Clive isn't used to drinking vodka straight up. And it seems that one had a real bite.
Russian standard DOES have fair bite :-D I look like Clive the first few shots of it...
I loved the look Clive gave just before he drank it, that half second stare at the camera with the mouth open as if to say "here we go again..." These guys were great together!
That's coz Clive is thinking...That's some good shit right there!!!!!!
it was equally as funny to hear him explain the history of this vodka while clive is struggling to open all the different packaging, biting the seals and shit lol.
Clive gives Ralph a plug for his channel. A standard UK three-prong, fused plug.
not a deathdapter with sleeved earth pin? lol
Sure, why not? A pink one.
Ast A. Moore a cheap shitty Pink usb charger from China
It’s hilarious listening to their ideas of grits
Ralphy: “Ground beef”
Clive: “Breakfast cereal”
It is definitely closer to a cereal. A hot cereal.
I thought grits were eggs?
@@CodfishCatfish eggs are commonly served with grits
grits are a type of glue
@@satanicinduction grits are semolina. A type of wheat. Commonly done as a desert in the UK.
Actually, it WAS Ralphy who melted a hole in his table cloth 🤣 When he did it after burning himself on the match
Fantastic. These colabs are great viewing. Cheers Clive and Ralfy
Paul Carey I'm pretty sure it's not a collab. I think Ralfy is his brother.
Smilz Yeah, I know. But Ralfy has his own YT channel hence why I treated it as collaboration.
They should do more
This video was published at december 31. Today is January 1st. How could you have commented 5 days ago?
Ura Nium Clive had the video unlisted. But his patreon supporters get to see it days earlier.
No upper classes here , 2 men eating ration food with no central heating with a bottle
What do you mean no central heating? They have that mini stove in the center of the table.
@@willg4802 this made me snort
ive found this after two years of watching both brothers individually..it is both jarring, hilarious and comforting all at the same time..they are so similar yet so different
It’s exactly what would happen if my brother and I filmed a UA-cam video. We have very opposing personalities, that’s for sure!
Reminds me of when I discovered vlogbrothers
I expect that most of us "Clivers" think Ralfy is a bit odd, and vice versa for the "Ralfers".
And what about those of us who love both their channels? ;)
Runoratsu You're probably smarter than the average bear, but I've not done the research!
Love it when they are together, though, they make an excellent odd couple.
I'd recommend learning the Russian alphabet, because a good number of words (especially modern words) become understandable when you know how to pronounce them. Take the word сахар, for example: 'с' is pronounced like an "s", 'а' a bit like the 'a' in "father", 'х' is pronounced like the 'ch' in "loch", and the 'р' is pronounced "r". Now, transliterating it becomes "sakhar" (where the "kh" is pronounced like the "ch" in "loch" - to avoid confusion with the "ch" in "chat"), which is already close enough to guess "sugar" in the right context.
Also, you can then read the large "Ruskii Standart" label on the vodka easily.
To quote a line from one movie, "It's a Cyrillic alphabet. It's like all of the buttons you never push on a calculator!"
Interesting fact about Sahara desert. Both worlds сахар ("sahar") and десерт ("desert") in Russia means sweetness.
End the fairy tales! :-) Modern Russian Internet newspeople - a very complicated thing, consisting of slang and even more heaps of Anglicisms. 8-) Yes, and a new fashion to take more sonorous and quick words from the Ukrainian, to enhance the effect or sarcasm. _(Courtesy of Google Translate since I was curious and don't speak Russian)_
You're right! I don't really know any Russian words, but I learnt the Cyrillic alphabet and can definitely understand some words through either the similar spelling, or the phonetic pronunciation.
Last of the Summer Winos
Clive and Ralfy's restaurant review channel....
That demijohn in the corner - looool!
That's Foggy and Compo sorted, and there's a suitable stream in the background - all we need now is a Batty neighbour to give some love interest ...
!:^) Guid Ain!
After the video and the bottle of vodka, they went off to invade Finland.
Never wanted this to end ! Felt like, I was a guest at the table.
"Shall we open this up, neatly lay everything out and methodically work through it or proceed to go at it like a bull at a gate and make a proper arse of the tablecloth?"
"Do you need to ask?"
I wondered why Ralphie was going on and on about the vodka, then at the end we discover that Ralphie is a Whiskey reviewer, so it all then made sense. Ralphie, you are one subscriber closer to 100,000!
He he he, "The Clive and Ralfy Show!" MUST be a new weekly event! :)
I agree!
I second this!! This was awsome!
Would be nice, but I think Ralfy lives in Glasgow primarily and Clive lives in the Isle of Man primarily.
unless he das movd Ralfy lives in the Isle of man as well.
They make a good team, certainly!
I like how Ralfy is putting on an act for the camera, while Clive is just Clive.
I'm a big fan of both Ralfy's and Clive's channels, but I never knew until today (02/19/2021) that they're brothers. Great chemistry! Yes, please do make more like this.
Haha these 2 are so funny together, typical brothers. Ralfy is trying his hardest to explain the Vodka and Clive is just waffling on haha great video. Do more together :-)
Vodka, I find useful, use it to cut Peach Schnapps which I find too sweet.
I like how you two are basically the exact same people as you are on your respective channels. Very very different personalities that somehow worked together without having to change a thing (at least on camera ;)
I could watch and listen to your fraternal banter all day! Please bring Ralfy on as often as you can!
As long as it was a Russian Army microwave, you're just about ok. Love the way Ralfy looks straight into camera when you're doing something he disapproves of... :-)
"because flavor.. has NO translation."
Grits = ground corn soaked in water, eaten for breakfast in the south.
Beef = Moo.
Moo
Second thought some sweet butter grits please
Hilarious. Your interaction in a nutshell: (Ralfy) "Do you notice a certain grainy-ness?" (Clive) "No." 🤣
"this is a wet wipe, it's not coffee.."...that made me crease up.....
Ralphy reminds me of the Harry Enfield character that keeps saying "Only me!"
World of AMEISO i dont think you meant to dooo that!
*I don't think you wanted to do that, did you?*
Spot on 👍
This was amazing. I'd love to hang out with these guys for a day 😂
While Ralfy is explaining things and getting deep, Clive is just ticking away in the background like a kid at Christmas. Hilarious.
I love how after ignoring his brother for like 10 minutes Clive repeats the same thoughts and when he's called out for being ignorant he's just like "mhmm"
"Flavour needs no translation." Heroic stuff! Thank you.
Absolutely love how Clive is testing every packet of powder like it's cocaine 😂
Grits are the inside white part of the corn kernel. They don't have a lot of taste but with the right amount of salt, pepper and butter they are good. They are most found for breakfast in the south east U.S. They are little known outside what was the Confederate States in the U.S. Civil war. They are best on a cold morning being being hot (Temp) and filling. They are usually served these days with eggs, toast, and sausage, ham and or bacon. They have the consistency of what I imagine Mush or Porridge is in Britain (having never had or seen Porridge when in Britain).
Bill S I always thought it was just the whole dried kernels ground finely.
No that is corn meal or if you are Italian Polenta (SP?) It is the same consistency as Polenta made but the chefs on the Food Network. We and any other Italian families made Polenta is made much more firm cut in slabs with cheese and sauce. For breakfast the slabs are fried in Olive oil coated with cheese. I think the inside part is called hominy (SP?) as there full name is Hominy Grits.
Bill S yeah, that makes sense, when I read the Google search it showed two kinds of grits, either coarsely round corn or hominy with the germ removed.
>scoffs< "No self-respectin' southerner uses instant grits!" :D
That is for sure yuk! BTW Happy New Year to all. There is instant Polenta also which saves a lot of time and muscle but doesn't quite taste the same or have the texture. Waste of good cheese.
Brilliant banter lads, hope you have a Happy Hogmanay!
Clive has me dying. He’s emptied his vodka glass 3 or 4 times so far despite having it filled only once...
This was just GOLDEN. Love watching both of your solo channels, and both together just makes it better! I could literally just watch you eat and talk and still enjoy it… … …wait. Yeah, I actually did.
How much did you two imbibe *before* making the video?!
None. It would have been much worse if we had a drink.
Well, the bottle was not that full to start with, so probably just chipped it out of the ice on the shelf before making this, and had to defrost the moving bits up top first.
You've really got to try the flavoured vodkas. Also well worth trying the Ukrainian version - two excellent producers are Nemirov, and Soyuz-Victan. Surprisingly Tesco used to sell Soyuz-Victan Admiral (which is definitely top-of-the-line!). Your Russian Standard's more of a Siberian tipple - if you want to try what Muscovites drink - Moskovskaya Osobaya (dates back to the time of the Tzars!) - should be available in the UK, and if you visit Moscow you can buy small bottles at the checkouts of ANY Supermarket "over there". Brother in Law calls this "Moscow Antifreeze"! :-)
*opens bottle of vodka
“Alright, let’s get this out into a glass.”
“Nice!”
This deserves more votes
This is a truly great treat for viewers...Ive been waiting for this for a long time...Happy New Years for you both!
How fucking cold does it have to be for your breath to be visible INSIDE? Seriously, I'm Australian and this is a foreign concept. Though I suppose 36C and storm chasing on Christmas Day is a bit of a foreign concept to everyone else...
Not totally foreign; I live in Southern California and we've been having days around 32-34C ... no storms, though, just Santa Ana winds. ;)
Technically if based on the hemisphere, your winter solstice in is June, and IMHO that's when you should have Yule.
And how else can you get the feel of eating a Russian MRE, without being in a cold area? Authentic eats are the way to go.
Stormchasing, eh? Sounds delightful! Go lick all the tornadoes
Looks like they're in a conservatory/house extension. They're often really poorly insulated
I live in NZ and I'd melt in 36c I love a nice 15c
Those metallised baquettes are exactly the same as how cat food is packaged.
"Flavour needs no translation" Honestly, I love that line
Happy new year Clive & Ralfie!
Thanks for a giggle filled, informative video!
PLEASE BOTH of you do some more like this, you guys are fun, nuts, and work well together!!
two good friends having a great time. Exactly how brothers should be. Happy new year both,
I love clive's under the breath, "You were in the jungle you could have just picked them."
9:45 It's pronounced "lake Ladoga", actually the largest lake in Europe (bigger by area than Northern Ireland). The water in it isn't particularly clean by the way.
A masterpiece of understatement.....
"The plastic needs be quite strong as when in a hostile environment..."
As if making a brew in the middle of a gunfight wasn't hostile enough!
Absolutely loved this! The chemistry you two have on here is amazing, love it!! Definitely need more collabs
I want this as a annual thing, please!
Better still, monthly. :)
Ralph talks about vodka, Clive opens everything with hyperactivity.
We love your brother... :) Mumbles a lot more but he is very fun. Happy new year !
Happy new year to you, Clive and Ralfy. And thanks for all the videos this year.
Excellent! Always enjoy your Ralfy videos :)
I donate monthly via Pateron. Can you please spend some of the donation money on a heater for the back room. HAHAHA! Great colab gentlemen!
T Wolf That's what the beard is for!
Always fun to see a Clive and Ralfy special. Happy new year.
I love you guys. You 2 are just amazingly wonderful
Your russian accents sound an awful lot like Scottish accents
You could say the same thing about Marko Ramius. 😉
Perhaps they're brushing up on the accents for a 'Hunt for Red October' remake? :)
I'm totally on a binge of old Clive videos and I cant stop laughing. I do the same thing with my carheart hat logo must be centered. Thanks Clive for helping make such a shit day better.
Brilliant. Happy new year to you both.
Love it when you two get together. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Looks like Russian astronauts having lunch in Earth orbit.
Thanks for this fellas 👏 I needed cheering up and you two had me in stitches of laughter 🤣🌻
This is one of my all time favourite youtube videos
I would like to say Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you both thank you for the great videos. I have learned so much watching you take things apart and the taste testing you have done.
I hope this year is filled with the love of good friends and familyBIG D
Happy new year Clive and Ralfy
We need livestreams of these.
Happy New Year, Clive and Ralfy... I trust you are enjoying a bonny Hogmanay. best wishes for a great 2018 from down under.
A very nice conversation, thank you guy's
I love your MRE videos. Actually considering stocking up on these.
5:06
I believe that Ralfy is confusing "spam," a kind of congealed processed pork in a can, and "grits," a kind of savory porridge made from ground maize that is boiled. Grits can be served either as a savory breakfast item or as a dinner item.
I think he's confusing grits with hash? It's a meaty potato dish. That sounds more like a hash to me than spam.
thank you both, from Canada and I love my country
Cheers fellas, great video. Happy 2018 to you both.
Nice!
No tray though...
clive never been to prison he does not have one of those stainless trays you see in the movies
you missed the reference to a popular MRE youtuber
No nice hiss either
Now, let's get all this on a tray. Nice!
Happy New Year, Clive and Ralfy, they would have had some decent microwave radar units in the field, so zapping the meal is valid.
Thanks Ralfy for the Vodka history and tasting tutorial.
I think the BBC are always looking for new day time chefs. Thanks lads both channels are very entertaining , All the best for 2018.
My apologies to Rafly! I am already subscribed, and have been suggesting his videos to everyone I know who loves whisky. If they haven't yet subscribed, I don't know what else to do! Ralfy deserves the 100k+
hell yeah!
So weird seeing Ralphy move so quickly. He's so slow and deliberate in his own videos but always acts like he's full of Caffine on this channel. :P
Brilliant video guys!!
Great video, as always of course. Happy New Year to you, Clive... and to Ralfy as well! Hope you both have a very prosperous 2018!
С новым годом! На здоровье!
Непривычно видеть такое видео после разборки различных электронных приборов :D
I'm so glad to meet your brother too... and at such a moment also. To you and to your brother and to all your followers regardless if they follow bigclive or Ralfy a Happy New Year! In health and prosperity, joy and merry moments. And oh, even if I'm like Clive when it comes to drinking 97,008 subscriber is me. Because I would like to see that scotch bottle opened before New Year.
Thank you for making the world smaller and may you have a great, happy, sunny and joyful 2018!
Cheers! Happy New Year!
Funny, his brother is direct to the point.
3 minutes in and already dying of laughter. Happy new year Clive and Ralfy :)
From the house that knows no heating!
Miles Finch Ralfy keeps the bothy with him wherever he is!
Why the hell is it so cold?
Gets notification of a BigClive upload 4 minutes ago. Sees comments from 4 days ago.
I was wondering about that myself. Does UA-cam allow a video to be re-uploaded, i.e. replacing V1 with V2 and NOT reset the dates of any original comments?
Patreon supporters get to see the videos earlier.
Thanks for the clarification
The date is when the video was made public. It could have been up for a year unlisted but when it's made public the date changes
Love this. I hope you and Ralfy do more videos together. Very enjoyable.
Good collaboration, very pleasant to watch, cheers guys and i wish you a Happy New Year !
Around the world in 80 military ration packs - ready to eject.
Your brother reminds me of a steeplejack from Bolton.
I take it you mean the Weegie Quarter of Bolton.
Never erd ov it. Is it that bit off Bury Road where I got me car burgled?
Treefrog X
Fred Dibnah?
Aye. The great Fred Dibnah. The most manly man thing to watch on 'telly, apart from Bullseye.
Funny thing I was watching part of a Fred Dibnah programme on UA-cam yesterday.
Best MRE review evar! Happy new year Clive and Ralfy!
Great to watch and very informative, more of Clive and Ralfy together needed as well....
The Eric and Ernie of UA-cam.
Brrr...your house seems to be a wee bit chilly.
it looks only around 1°C in there
A wonderful 2018 also to you!
Happy New Year Clive and Ralfy, We thoroughly enjoyed your taste test lol.
