    I saw another vid on this project and they discussed adding an external antenna due to the limited connectivity of the inboard "trace" one. Are there any comments about this and which antenna would work here?

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  3 роки тому

      You could cut the trace and add one. Very similar process to my blink camera video. Any WiFi antenna would do.

    Thanks for making this video. The URL on the bottom of the box mine came in is a QR code, but it's so badly printed that it doesn't work.
    I was able to read the address from yours, which set me on the right path.

    J’ai reçu ce kit et suivi vos instructions. Mais il ne fonctionne pas , l’esp 8266 n’est pas programmé et je n’arrive pas a trouver le code. Comment faire pour se le procurer. La boîte ne comporte qu’une étiquette de référence.
    Merci de votre aide

  • @Jonathan8146

    Still trying to get the code to work, the ones in the instructions won't compile, "obsolete API" if that means anything. Managed to bodge together bits of it but it's combining it all so the thing works as intended that is causing me headaches.
    Anyway, enjoyed your video, keep having fun.

    Shame they didn't solder on the pin headers! Easily solved for us soldering iron welding types I suppose! :-) I hope they had flashed the firmware to the ESP module, all mine have shown up sans firmware. :-0

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that is a big shame. You need to flash your own firmware because you need to set the API keys. Its a shame they didn't include a web interface. I am doing the latter for all my gadgets, as hard coding settings is pretty lame!

    • @electronraygun6346
      @electronraygun6346 4 роки тому

      @@backofficeshow I'm quite new to the world of ESP modules and all the guides I was using didn't mention the firmware flashing stage :-0 They all made it look like it was plug and play, or solder and play! In the end I built a firmware flash circuit into my project so I didn't have to breadboard it. That could be a a good subject for a video :-) I think I've already forgotten the process and I don't think the guides on the interwebs were all that user friendly! :-)

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  4 роки тому

      @@electronraygun6346 Fortunately they already have the flashing hardware built in and already a base Arduino firmware. So as long as you plug it in the USB and loads the Arduino IDE it will be ok.

      @@backofficeshow I should probably figure out how my firmware flash circuit works lol! Once I had the telnet firmware on there I just kinda forgot how the dip switches and micro switches work to flash a new firmware. I really should keep notes on these sorts of things!

    Thanks backofficeshow, followed your build to the wire, plugged it into the Mac a flash of blue light then nothing, opened Ardunio tried 1 or 2 libraries nothing, so it's what it is junk.

      Pull only the Arduino from your setup and try talking to that via the PC first. Worth getting that communicating first. Everything else can be added bit by bit after that
