@@ST91111 it was, in fact, even called the "6 Button Arcade Pad"! truly a great controller for the types of arcade games that were so well-represented on the genesis. i actually still slightly prefer the 3-button pad for most games though, those buttons are just so huge and satisfying. kind of like an arcade controller as well, actually! man sega made great controllers
Sega's 6-button layout is the best for fighting games, no doubt. The SNES layout proved to be useful in other ways, however, as we were then able to make use of more fingers.
For what it’s worth, the 16bit consoles were the last vestiges of getting it close to arcade. Back then, it was a treat to go to the arcade and experience video games in their best forms.
Sometimes you can tell the differences in Xbone and PS4 but it's so incredibly minuscle and doesn't matter at all in the long run what looks better because it's just tiny details anyways. This generation clearly has improvements being made from port to port or other attempts to make the game work properly. Mega Drive looks vastly different from the arcade but it works for what it wanted to be.
To be able to make a faithful arcade port of SFII like this in 1993 was impressive on Mega Drive part, the PS1 version is good too but it came out too late and by then I already move on to the Alpha series.
Saturn version would of destroyed it with no load times it was arcade perfect making use of the ram cart. Hell sega version was better then PlayStation since it has no load time even in this comparison video he had to keep pausing his sega as PlayStation was loading
It didnt use the ram cart you moronic fanboy. The PS1 version can be reduced drasticley in load times by playing it on PS2 set with faster loading times for PS1 games. The PS1 version on the other is a hell lot cheaper than Saturn, the PS1 version was also localized outside of Japan.

Yes PS1 have surely the best version in term of graphism fidelity but we can see how well run the MD version ! In term of game timing, it's the same, the game on MD was a huge and great port at his time and I always prefer this version than the SSF2 on same console. Both version are great for the system who they run.
Genesis holds up remarkably well. Obviously these are 2 systems from 2 generations and the PS is at least twice as powerful. Still love that Genesis sound though. Super Street Fighter II for Genesis is AMAZING.
The sega version controls so fluid. I very rarely make a mistake when doing special moves and combos. Other systems sometimes give me trouble when trying to cancel into special moves like "HP/cancel/Shoryuken" but I can pull it off 99% of the time on Sega
Not really a fair comparison, MD/Gen is running on hardware from the 1980's vs. a Sony Playstation that came out in 1995 with better hardware, a disc format for extra memory, why bother?
ben owen Play station Wins with better music, more FPS, better control with more buttons and two analog sticks and the sprites are better. This is a real port from the arcade at the %100.
Funfact: In the oversea version of street fighter 2 for the megadrive during the introduction sequence with Mike fighting Joe In the public cheer crowd. Mike was replaced with a white Caucasian guy instead because I think maybe Sega of America don't want some fans to assume that mike being punched by Joe is racist. But some fans don't understand that the reason why Joe and Mike where there as cameo is because newcomer fighters where attend in the second sequel of street fighter like bison, vega, chun li and etc. Thus making Mike and Joe there last cameo appearance in street fighter.
The "Plus" refers to the "Hyper Fighting" mode that was added to the Genesis version of "Champion Edition" to achieve parity with the SNES' Street Fighter II Turbo, which has both "Hyper Fighting" and "Champion Edition" mode.
I know this was 2 years ago but Capcom did officially stated that those two guys shown fighting in all the SFII intro aren't Mike and Joe. I too once believe they were but now Capcom made it clear they aren't and those two are simply just generic characters, same for the guy who punch the brick wall in the first SF1 intro as well.
@Mister Review No it isn't. It was 32bit. The only 64bit console out at the time was the Nintendo 64 hence it's name. The Atari Jaguar 'claimed' to being a 64-bit system, but it was two 32 bit processors put together, one for graphics and one for sound.
1thing I still miss these days is the joy of socializing and the fun arcade experience , playing at home isn't exciting without that huge crowd , Sega and Nintendo gave you something different yet u could still enjoy the original arcade version , starting from the PS1 , Sega Dreamcast , ps2 , N64, GameCube etc. these console killed that wonderful arcade experience!
Psx version is almost arcade perfect and thats normal since psx is stronger than CPS1. But it has horrible loading times that pisses you off enough, plus the 6 button Megadrive joypad is better for this game. Keep in mind the fact that most gamers played the Megadrive version, psx version wasnt known well enough and got passed through.

PsOne was the Arcade version itself. The ideal we wanted to play home, it was a pitty it came a little late..Thanks Super Nintendo and Genesis Mega Drive!
Both are pretty respectable ports in my opinion. Yes, obviously the PlayStation has better sound but graphically I prefer the deeper tones of the Sega Genesis, it's aged quite nicely :)
This is one of the few games that had a lot of care go into the port and porting process. The Genesis version is nothing short of amazing for its time, and strangely enough even the Master System got a decent port.
16bit era was a lot of fun, there was so much hardware you could by for the snes and megadrive, Consoles these days just don't seem to cut it for me, the last console that truly excited me was the n64 every console since then have been boring, Sony and Microsoft have ruined it, I mean how many more PlayStations are we going to get same with xbox they still use the same name and the hardware is just a bit more powerful than the last, almost like thier frightened of change, thankfully Nintendo is still keeping the old style alive, not afraid to try something new.
oh man there was a time when I sold off all my game consoles and commodore Amiga and C64 systems. Still my brother had a sega megadrive only for some sports games. I managed to get this game SF2ce and thought the sounds were okay but a little crispy and muffled. The graphics and gameplay however were brilliant and to me always stood out as a competent version of the arcade game just like the Snes
E a do Mega é excelente tbm!!
For those saying the Mega Drive version has better or more accurate sounds is incorrect and is saying that purely out of personal preference, as the Capcom Generations version is essentially a CPS-1 arcade version emulation (not a port) and the sounds are exactly the original arcade sounds, unaltered or converted. For a perfect example of this search on UA-cam the channel 'TheReginaldProgram' and look for "Street Fighter ll The Definitive Soundtrack" CPS-1 (it's a double album so view related videos below to find all 4 sides, it's blue vinyl) which he also has the CPS-2 version available as well (same, a double album that should show up in related videos to find all four sides, it's gold vinyl) which essentially is what was used for Street Fighter 2 Turbo and further SF2 releases. I really need to start hunting down those Capcom generations discs, apparently they never released any Capcom Generations releases for PSX in North America and merged a number of them together for a release on PS2 but I don't know how many they released and if they covered all of the games on the PSX series released in Europe and Japan, I definitely need the first one at least for the Ghosts and Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts arcade emulations on there alone.
basically the PlayStation version is the arcade , putting this against the megadrive version puts it into perspective how good a port the 16bit version was , sound had to be compramised to include all speech etc , AN THERES A LOT AN ALEAST IT'S APPARENT , frames of animation are missing however theres more than any other 16bit version including the snes , most noticable on guile an dalhsim , in fact basic moves on guile are missing on the snes , a point snes fans fail to spot , i owned the sony version an at the time the loading was a small price to pay for hardcore fans of sf2 as if it's not perfect then it's best yet , including all animation on sprites an backgrounds , an both are a joy to play ,
The only real weakness of the MD/Genesis was the sound in this game. Otherwise the presentation overall is well done considering this is a 16bit cartridge based system versus a 32bit disc based system. That’s like comparing a Hyundai to a Mercedes! It is my understanding that the more memory a programmer has to work with and better overall specs for hardware, the better a game should look, sound and play. Sometimes programmers are able to overcome such limitations. But often it’s the same old David and Goliath story.
Funny how both versions are missing the breakable signs in Ryu's stage. Genesis I can understand because of processing limitations, but PS, that was plain laziness.
@@jonyalex7953 yea your right, the signs only appeared in world warrior, even the snes version has them, also in sagats stage on wold warrior there is a big tree in font which was removed in champion and hyper fighting
One of the things I like on Sega is that it is not so "zoomed" this have just gotten worse and worse on newer fighting games, the characters takes up the whole screen today!!
What I love about this video is that VCDECIDE had to spend ages on this game before it would give them the same order of opponents on both consoles for comparison purposes.
Played it so much on the SNES. Didn't even know the PlayStation version existed. I'd say, just buy the PS version, play it on a ps2 or a fat ps3 = better graphics + quick loading. Win!
If you have a flash cart or one of them FPGA systems like Mega SG or MiSTer then do yourself a favor and use the Pyron hack of SF2 for Genesis/Megadrive. It fixes the colors for the most part and cleans up the sampled audio.
What is however blindingly obvious when it comes to fighting games, is that the Mega Drive 6 button pad is faaar more superior than that abomination of the 4 face buttons and top triggers that's been sadly imposed since SNES and PSX.
The mega drive saved memory by using smaller sprites and fewer but darker colours, which in some ways made it a grittier looking game which to some made the experience better, everything else in terms of movement and FPS is about the same.
*SEGA has amazing sound! For the system, from what I have seen from professionals who speak about this issue, is that the CHIP of SEGA was never programmed to 100%.* *In other words, that CHIP can be modified by programming and seeing how it looks better, and thus SEGA 16-Bit could produce very good quality sounds including clear voices.* *According to the connoisseurs of the subject in question, it is that game designers simply take the pre-established sound configuration of the SEGA CHIP YAMAHA, and do not take the time necessary to configure it correctly!* *SEGA 16-Bit can offer much more than meets the eye! in the Street Fighter-II Special Champion Edition game.*
The cheat code for the Super Nintendo Super Street Fighter Champion Ship Edition is when you see the WORD CAPCOM on your SNES controller #1 pad press Down, R, Up, L, Y, B for the 10 Ten Star Cheat Code... Game-pro Mag (1992)
I have many versions of street fighter 2, from genesis, snes, Saturn, ps2, dc all the the way up to ps4 and pc... and I still prefer the gameplay of genesis and snes, despite them not being visually arcade perfect
The megadrive version is better because the colours are better and you get a really good six button pad all layed out in true arcade style apart from that it's a cartridge so it loads fast like the original arcade pcb. The only problem is the speech samples they all sound like they have come down with the flu.
That's not even a fair comparison. If you're going to compare anyting, compare the SNES with the PlayStation. Or compare the 3DO or Jaguar with the PlayStation. But you're literally comparing the 16-bit vs. The 32-bit. You might as well compare the Genesis with the arcade version because the PlayStation is actually closest to the arcade.
Did somebody notice that after the India stage always follows Ryu stage? It happens to me every time (at least when I pick Ken or Ryu). Has the game not completely random fights so?
Sega Genesis looks more fleshy and digital. Play Station looks more Cartoony (Goes to show Cartridge pumps better colors and sounds and is more amped then CD disc)
Preferred the M.D. version myself , the loading was the main thing. I like the granier look of the mega drive , have a psx too so no bias as both are superb
The megadrive version has better definition, better colours and loads fast like the arcade due to being a printed circuit only a lot smaller. Only the speech takes a hit but I can live with that.
The Genesis version does amazingly well. Comparing a 16-bit system to a 32-bit system like this shows how powerful the Genesis was and what an excellent job Sega did designing it.

@@random_gamer_guy82 Configure the buttons in options.....
Indeed. The 32 bit consoles were the begining of the end.
Back when you used to be able to tell the differences between systems.
RetroSteve Now you have to depend on button prompts.
No kidding, I can hardly distinguish PS4 and Xbox One games.

Ryu got himself a tan in the mega drive version
To be able to make a faithful arcade port of SFII like this in 1993 was impressive on Mega Drive part, the PS1 version is good too but it came out too late and by then I already move on to the Alpha series.
Going from the NES to the Mega Drive version was a shocking difference for me, at the time it felt very close to arcade perfect!
Should of compared it to the Saturn version.

Megadrive version was flipping awesome.
This video was made 3 years ago and the PS1 port is still loading.....
The sega version controls so fluid. I very rarely make a mistake when doing special moves and combos. Other systems sometimes give me trouble when trying to cancel into special moves like "HP/cancel/Shoryuken" but I can pull it off 99% of the time on Sega
Hi, can I make a request for a "Playstation version VS. HD remix version"?
Not really a fair comparison, MD/Gen is running on hardware from the 1980's vs. a Sony Playstation that came out in 1995 with better hardware, a disc format for extra memory, why bother?
hepwo91222
... And still not really a better version apart from the sound wich is obvious.

Basically this is a 16 bit port Vs a slightly superior 32 bit port which more closely resembles the arcade original.
@Mister Review No it isn't. It was 32bit. The only 64bit console out at the time was the Nintendo 64 hence it's name. The Atari Jaguar 'claimed' to being a 64-bit system, but it was two 32 bit processors put together, one for graphics and one for sound.
People saying that Genesis is the arcade perfect but in my opinion the PS1 can handle arcade game perfectly both audio and video except loading issue
How do you compare a perfect pixel conversion with a 16-bit megadrive? The megadrive version in any case, even if clearly inferior, is incredible!

A versão Genesis é superior a Snes ainda
This is one of the few games that had a lot of care go into the port and porting process. The Genesis version is nothing short of amazing for its time, and strangely enough even the Master System got a decent port.
1:00 what the hell is that glyph in the left menu? Tiny popcorn meaning something obscure.
apart from the loading times, playstation version is clearly better. i believe it even had 3 different version on one cd as i remember.
Yes, it's called "Street Fighter 2 Collection" - with "SF2 - World Warrior, SF2 - Hyper Fighting and SF2 - Special Champion Edition"
Personally I feel that the colors are deeper and richer on the mega drive which is what I like. So for me it's the winner.

contrast and art style looks better on the MD. things seem to pop out more.
Did the Genesis port play as well as the PS1 version? Is yes then I would consider this a matter of Visuals vs Loading.
I really need to start hunting down those Capcom generations discs, apparently they never released any Capcom Generations releases for PSX in North America and merged a number of them together for a release on PS2 but I don't know how many they released and if they covered all of the games on the PSX series released in Europe and Japan, I definitely need the first one at least for the Ghosts and Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts arcade emulations on there alone.
basically the PlayStation version is the arcade , putting this against the megadrive version puts it into perspective how good a port the 16bit version was , sound had to be compramised to include all speech etc , AN THERES A LOT AN ALEAST IT'S APPARENT , frames of animation are missing however theres more than any other 16bit version including the snes , most noticable on guile an dalhsim , in fact basic moves on guile are missing on the snes , a point snes fans fail to spot , i owned the sony version an at the time the loading was a small price to pay for hardcore fans of sf2 as if it's not perfect then it's best yet , including all animation on sprites an backgrounds , an both are a joy to play ,
Playstation.
hahaha really?
I love the menu selection noise on the PS1. It sounds pitch shifted from the arcade.
I think the signs didnt appear in "champion edition", not even in the arcade.
@@jonyalex7953 yea your right, the signs only appeared in world warrior, even the snes version has them, also in sagats stage on wold warrior there is a big tree in font which was removed in champion and hyper fighting
They should remaster vanilla Street Fighter 2 to the full potential of XBOX ONE X and PC.
Now if you could have done the exact same moves at the exact same time in both versions that would have been cool!
One of the things I like on Sega is that it is not so "zoomed" this have just gotten worse and worse on newer fighting games, the characters takes up the whole screen today!!
MD is best in this case sound is complete and graphics fits SF better than playstation does
What I love about this video is that VCDECIDE had to spend ages on this game before it would give them the same order of opponents on both consoles for comparison purposes.
MD is missing one elephant at Dhalsin's scenario. Sources say it was killed, its ivory tusks removed and sold on black market.
Played it so much on the SNES. Didn't even know the PlayStation version existed. I'd say, just buy the PS version, play it on a ps2 or a fat ps3 = better graphics + quick loading. Win!
I really like the graphics on Playstation better than Genesis, but why does Playstation haft to load? Genesis FTW.
If you have a flash cart or one of them FPGA systems like Mega SG or MiSTer then do yourself a favor and use the Pyron hack of SF2 for Genesis/Megadrive. It fixes the colors for the most part and cleans up the sampled audio.
PlayStation looks great but I love how games look on the Genesis 😍
What is however blindingly obvious when it comes to fighting games, is that the Mega Drive 6 button pad is faaar more superior than that abomination of the 4 face buttons and top triggers that's been sadly imposed since SNES and PSX.
My Sega Genesis copy is different? Mine does not have "Plus" i am not aware that Capcom released a "Plus Version".
The mega drive saved memory by using smaller sprites and fewer but darker colours, which in some ways made it a grittier looking game which to some made the experience better, everything else in terms of movement and FPS is about the same.
*SEGA has amazing sound! For the system, from what I have seen from professionals who speak about this issue, is that the CHIP of SEGA was never programmed to 100%.*
*In other words, that CHIP can be modified by programming and seeing how it looks better, and thus SEGA 16-Bit could produce very good quality sounds including clear voices.*
*According to the connoisseurs of the subject in question, it is that game designers simply take the pre-established sound configuration of the SEGA CHIP YAMAHA, and do not take the time necessary to configure it correctly!*
*SEGA 16-Bit can offer much more than meets the eye! in the Street Fighter-II Special Champion Edition game.*

The megadrive version is better because the colours are better and you get a really good six button pad all layed out in true arcade style apart from that it's a cartridge so it loads fast like the original arcade pcb. The only problem is the speech samples they all sound like they have come down with the flu.
Increíble el PODER de la MEGADRIVE!!!
