50 year old here. I see this commercial and literally want to cry. How did things get so backwards. Back then that was the goal. Be a clean shaved man with a girlfriend/wife, great job and a man who takes care of his family. Seems thoses days are long gone now. Or frowned upon at least.
So much has changed. More diversity, more acceptance with LGBT culture. They had African American & White Men, today it would be asian, hispanic and even arabian men. I loved this commercial when I was a Kid. You saw a Brotha on Wall Street which to this day is a rarity.

Great commercial from the 1980s. Inspiring and uplifting in spirit. Back when men were men and proud of it! Gillette needs to bring that image back into its commercials and abandon the woke idiocy.

I grew up with this song/commercial. This was just ordinary common then. My father had his Gillette safety razor from the Marine Corp. 1959. I loved the Brush Plus from 1985 so much that "Santa" brought me one for Christmas then. I read hundreds of men shedding tears here at this commercial. Myself included. I agree with all that you said. Except this commercial was also shown in Australia for years (notice the Australian accent of the voice at the end?). It resonated with us too because the idea of the successful masculine man wasn’t just an American thing.
