Congratulations on a featured artist location for you.
Thank you so much!
Use wax resist on your stilts before you add your piece. This will help with those blemishes created in the firing. Lovely work and congratulations and well deserved on your work at Charlie Cummings! I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Very inspirational!
Thank you so much! I’d seen that in one of the videos I watched about the wax resist. Will have to give that a try!👍🏻❤️
Gorgeous!! Thanks so much for sharing all your recommendations and tips!!❤
Thank you Annie and you’re very welcome!🫶🏻
I wanted to do the cuerda seca for a long time and I kept putting it off, I tried a tray and even do it was not the exact technic it came out great. You have encourage me to go ahead and do it. I bought the supplies and I am going to try it, this is the year for new goals. 🥰
That’s so great to hear Angela! Let me know if you have any questions 👍🏻💞
Congratulations on your much deserved recognition! I would love to see a demonstration of the Cuerda seca technique that you used to decorate the mug your holding- it’s beauty takes my breath away…
Thank you so much! The chameleon mug is the same technique as the other mug. I do show it a little bit towards the end. I didn’t do another full video on it because they are basically the same.❤
This is beautiful 😍
Thank you so much Jackie!❤️
Love this!
Thank you so much Angela!🥰
So pretty!
Thank you Pam!
So beautiful and interesting - I will have to try this! Thank you for all the information!
You’re welcome. You’ll be hooked!😄
I went to your website, and didn't see anything for sale. Am I looking in the right place?

I did hear a tip that if you wax the stilts it helps to prevent the prongs from sticking
That’s good to know! Thank you for this tip!👍🏻💞
Thank you for this video.
Stroke & Coat isn’t available to buy in India so I need to try the Cuerda seca technique with either Amaco glazes or those locally made in India.
You can use any stable glaze that won’t move during the glaze firing. Amaco celadon glazes are very stable but there are many others. Just test it before. I hope it works for you!👍🏻❤️
Thank you so much for sharing! This is the kind of technique that I’ve been looking for. I’ve tried Mishima, and sgraffito, but they didn’t give me exactly the result I was looking for. This looks much more like what I was envisioning in my mind that I wanted but just didn’t know how to go about it. ❤
You’ll love it and the Stroke and Coat glazes are amazing! I do suggest testing first on tiles!👍🏻❤️
Are the glazes you use the sa.e as paint a pottery glazes or something else. Please advise what type/brand of glazes you use. Also do you cover the piece with a clear semi gloss glazes before firing? Thank you.
@@susanrapp3109 Hi Susan, I use Mayco Stroke and Coat and I don’t use any clear glazes over them. They are glossy finish and very stable. These are the glazes I recommend, but it can work with any other stable glazes like Amaco celadons. I just haven’t tested yet with other types of glazes.
Loved these pieces so glad the stroke and coat s work I have a ton of them congratulations on your achievement 🎉
@@mystierichards8252 thank you so much!💞

This is soo beautiful. I don’t know how to layer the colors like you do and I can’t draw but I will be trying this for sure. I can’t get over how amazing your pieces are!! I just wanted to ask does the black outline glaze repel the glaze in the bottles or are you just really good at not going over the lines? Also do you have to let the stroke n coat glazes sit out and dry out a little so the glaze is thicker? Thanks so much!! Also, I am a member of ClayShare which is ran by a woman named Jessica Putnam Philips and she does classes on all things Clay related. She has a thing she does every year called ClayShare where it’s a week long thing where she has people teach classes and different techniques. I just know she would love it if you got a hold of her and talked to her about doing a class for ClayShare week. Her name is Jessica Putnam Phillips and she owns ClayShare.
Hi Michele, thank you so much! You’re so kind.
Yes the oil mixture works like a wax resist. It repels the glaze. But if you squirt too much, it might go over. So you do need to be careful. I will suggest you try it first on a tile because it’s easier to do it on a flat surface. Also the glaze can’t be too thick or it won’t flow. In fact I add a little bit of water to the glaze on the bottle applicators. Then you test it to make sure it’s flowing out of the needle. Also wait a few minutes after you do your line work. It works better that way. Those are great questions. 👍🏻💞
I’ve been following @clayshare Jessica for a long time now. I just love her work and her channel. That’s a great idea!👍🏻
@@anasclayhouse thank you so much.
Beautiful 😍 love it. Thanks. May ask... Are you decorating with the oil/iron oxide mix on bisque ware or raw clay? What about when you add the stroke and coat? THANK YOU
Thanks! They were both done at bisqueware the oil mixture and the glazing. You can also do it at bone dry greenware and do one single firing. But I recommend testing first. I think it depends on the clay.
Beautiful work! Sorry if im asking a silly question, but could you use underglaze instead of the oxide/oil/fritt?
Thank you! You can, I’ve seen some people use Mayco designer liner which I know it works!👍🏻
I must of missed the informtion but are you doing this on greenware and will given the recipe on the black
I’m working on Bisque ware. This video can help you with the oil mixture.

Thank you your vides are very helpful as i am new to pottery. Congradulation on your gallery deal@anasclayhouse
@@JoesphBarron thank you! Feel free to ask me any questions, I love to help.👍🏻
I did not hear if you are working on leather hard or bisque fired mug? It looks bisque fired.
It was bisque fired. But you can also do this technique on bone dry greenware and do a single fire. I do prefer painting on bisque though.
I just finished painting on the paste to my mug. When I touch it, the black comes off on my hand. Should this be happening. Did I use too much oil.
Hi Patricia
The line work will smear so you can’t touch it. I believe I’ve mentioned this before, maybe on one of my earlier videos. You see how I hold the mug with my hand inside and I’m always careful not to touch it. If it’s just a light smear, you can try wiping it with some alcohol and then glaze over as usual. If you have a hard time with the oil, there’s the liquid black wax as an alternative. Next month I’ll have a new video of this technique using a certain type of pencil for the line work.
So to answer your question, the oil mixture will always smear until you glaze fire your piece, you can’t touch the line.
@@anasclayhouse thank you for the quick reply. This is my first piece, I am not giving up. Can’t wait to see how the black wax resist works.
Ana, do you dip in clear after all this painting? I have the same kiln as your's, do you fire these at Cone 6 to the automatic 2235 F? or do you have a ramp and hold that you use?
No, you don’t need clear coat over the stroke and coat glazes. I fire to 2185 slow cool and my firing schedule is listed under Community posts. I hope you’ll like this technique!❤️
Hello, is it possible to use Black underglaze with sesame oil? To use te technique?
I’ve tested this before and it didn’t work. The black didn’t stay black, it was more like a grey uneven color. Maybe because the underglaze has water in it so it doesn’t mix well with the oil. But you could test it. You never know. I know some people use black underglaze and wax resist. I’ve tested a lot of these options but what worked the best for me was the oil with either RIO or BIO.👍🏻
@@anasclayhouse thank you for your answer🙏
Do I need to add Frit? or can I go without out? and is borax the same?
You don’t have to use Frit if you are not using this technique inside a piece where it would be in contact with food. The Frit helps to seal the surface on the line work and also makes it a little more shiny. If you omit the Frit, your line work becomes more matte. I don’t always add Frit to the oil mixture.
I wouldn’t use borax because it has a low melting point. Here’s some info on borax.

thank you. i ordered the frit.
