Fields simply ran out of time with the Bears. He was due for an extension and the Bears weren't going to pay it. They had no reason to either because he was developing slowly and wasn't a force multiplier on offense. People like to talk about how Poles "did him dirty" but really it was Pace and Nagy who kneecapped him from the start - from drafting him in a lame-duck season to throwing him to the wolves against a hungry Browns defense with no O-Line and a bad gameplan in his first NFL start. He showed flashes, but was never consistent as a playmaker.

As a Lions fan glad to not have to play against him in our division. Beat us once convincingly and should have won both except for last minute heroics. The Bears and Ravens were the only two teams we had trouble with. Expecting to do better against Bears this year. Caleb will be easier to defend.

I think the Colts are a sleeper for top 5 offense. Richardson, Woods, returning from injury and Taylor with a full off-season with team. Adding Adonai Mitchell who was expected first rounder in the second along with Gould in the 5th. Adding that with Pittman jr,Downs, pierce, and the Colts could make a huge jump in the offensive rankings this year.

Fields struggles to read defenses. He doesn’t really throw with anticipation. He frequently misses open receivers downfield and will more often than not choose the check down. He holds the ball too long that results in more sacks. He fumbles too much. Many of these issues were there at Ohio State. More talent around him will not make him a top 12 or 15 QB.
His rookie year Fields had Allen Robinson, David Montgomery, Cole Kmet who had 60 receptions and Darnell Mooney who had 81 receptions and 1055 yards. Year 2 Fields had David Montgomery, Khalil Herbert and his NFL leading 5.7 YPC, Kmet, Mooney and eventually Chase Claypool who was off to a solid career. Year 3 he had DJ Moore, Mooney, Claypool, Kmet, Herbert and Foreman. Plus a much improved OL and a top 5 defense the last half of the season. It’s not like Fields was treated like Bryce Young.

Mooney ain't Kenan Allen and Allen Robinson ain't DJ Moore but I'm not here to go back and forth with none of u fans because I have my opinion on the situation and u have yours and that's ok. The piper will always have to be paid. Expanding the season to 18 games and cutting pre-season games to 2 games, is a MUCH harder season on player health and harder to develop/evaluate talent. Id say that for this to work, active rosters would have to expand to 63 and practice squads to 20. The cap would have to be raised significantly for expanded rosters and the added wear and tear on player health due to expanded seasons. That might ameliorate some of the issues because expanded seasons mean more money for the owners and theyd be doing it on the backs of the players. More games, more money. The players should share in some of that.

If evaluating players is the goal…. Why not do multi team scrimmages even multi team mini camps… and eliminate preseason all together? They can still run live games in scrimmages… it’s much more controlled and guys can get a ton more reps against professionals. There’s always this thing about getting enough reps for backups. There’s always this rigid system everyone has to follow. Why can’t teams decide how they want to spend their preseason? Why can’t a coach decide what’s best to develop his players?

I think some important decision have been made before the preseson. I remember when Chase Daniel played pre season early in his career. He outplayed the other quarterback candidates but was not selected to be team quarterback. Chase Daniel was still in the NFL when the other quarterbacks were gone. Some teams "suck" and this is not caused by the people on the field. When a team has top draft picks for a decade or more, the problem can't be solved on the field. For years I loved football. Then the new rules that diminshes the ability of the defense, inconsistent /incompetent officiating, etc. motivated me to stop watching games. And, I was NOT enthused by having games in other countries. How about a game in St. Louis, San Diego, Oakland. The NFL leadership is so damn greedy they will end up "cutting their own wrists".

Is part of the issue for the NFL that there is so much downtime each year? Wouldn't a better option be to spread the existing schedule out longer, so that more games could be televised and player recovery and welfare could be optimised? Playing every week seems nonsensical over a full season with just one bye, now that international games are taking hold and the demands on both the NFL and players, is as high as it's ever been.

I liked their draft, I’ve loved the guys we chose to resign… You’re right in that they do need to have patience and they’ll face pressure to play him but I think the fan base will be a lot more patient after what we did to Mac Jones. I’m perfectly happy with another 4-13 year with him on the bench as long as there is growth and improvement with the team. I want to give the coaches time to implement their new offense. The O line needs to be tested to find the right grouping (another draft would help) etc. etc. Play calling needs to gel, etc, etc. But if we are patient, next draft our high pick will go to the O line and shoring up pieces. Fingers crossed. Just don’t write him (or us) off yet.
