    This tends to be the same reason MY writing doesn't get done: I put it at the end of the day in the hopes that my energy will be higher than it ends up being.
    So happy that you've found a good level of socializing. We are social animals. (Except when we aren't.)
    Good luck with July NaNo.

    Writing routines are a little overrated. They work for some and not for others. It really depends on people's lives. If you have a normal 9-5 job, it can work. If not, probably not. I know for myself, that my writing routine changes depending on the book. I've had projects that I needed to write first thing in the morning. The next evening/night. The one after that afternoon. What I found is it comes down to the individual to figure out what works for them. Great video. Keep it up, you can complete your goal to finish draft 5 by the end of July.

    I have also had such variable days that writing is an after-thought, so I have used the same solution: write as soon as possible in the morning. I have also substantially cut back on other things I used to do in order to focus on said writing. Sometimes the peaks and troughs have to be accepted, especially when you have a day job that is flexible with work hours. I like the habit tracker, though!

    I wish that I still had a writing routine... But sometimes, things work better when we stop worrying about deadlines.
    So nowadays I just write when I'm feeling in the mood, or when I happen to feel inspired.
    But before my laptop died (together with a lot of work), I used to be kinda crazy about writing at least a couple of chapters per week...
    Well, it was my fault to not do backups more often, but nowadays I just don't mind anymore. - I write when I happen to feel motivated, then I save a backup file on the cloud, and then I just stop thinking about it...
    I mean, to have a routine is also good. But when we have a routine, sometimes we start writing at some automatic level, sometimes even without much inspiration... So nowadays I priorise my mental conditions, and I pay more attention to things like saving the progress of my works, and making sure that if some crap happens, I will no longer get into troubles like it happened on a very recent past.
    Anyways, I still happen to take notes and things like that... But I just decided to set me free from a routine. And my works improved a lot since then...

    Another great vlog once again, and you're doing really great with your habit tracker. I don't really have much of a writing routine, but I have noticed that when I do write it tends to be between 8 - 9.30pm. This just works for me as I also have a job and volunteering roles in the day. I'm an early riser and so I like to prioritise my meditation and yoga in the mornings when I am more alert and have less stuff in my brain. I also just prefer writing in the evenings because it feels a little more atmospheric to me and I feel like this gives my creativity a boost.

    Think about blocking your times. Don’t assign something specific to specific times, but, rather, block creative time, work time, breaks, outdoor time, etc. Think about your day and when your work stuff usually pops up or when your writing seems easiest or what time of day being outside is most energizing for you. The best way to find a routine is to pay attention to your energies throughout the day. We all have our “natural rhythm” and a lot of people tend to ignore them.

      this is good advice. I’m struggling with building a writing routine as a stay at home mom, so it’s important to build blocks for creativity and other things as opposed to being specific

      I tried time blocking about a year and a half ago but maybe it's time I revisit it and give it another shot!

    I loooved this video !!! Also seing your tracker was recomforting, I feel we only see on UA-cam "a day of my life as a X" or "a week of daily routine", meaning we see the one successful week and not the global habit ! I feel a bit better now

    I struggle with having a really changeable life as well, between all the different things my kids do and need rides for as well as my chronic health issues! I'd so love to have a fixed writing routine though.
    How did you come up with your list for your habit tracking?

    • @SaraLubratt
      @SaraLubratt  2 роки тому +2

      The things on my habit tracker have been trial and error over the past few years. I used to fill up the tracker with like 19 things but a few months ago I realized I didn't care about half of them so I simplified it down to the things I really wanted to track, and the things that I prioritize and could see the most benefit from when I do them consistently

    You are more strict with your habit tracker than me. If I didn't have a fivrr order for the day, I would just mark it off for the day instead of leaving unmarked lol

    Hi Sara. I'm trying drafting for the first time and I don't know can I edit the 2nd draft as I go or do you do the exact thing you did with the first draft?

    • @SaraLubratt
      @SaraLubratt  2 роки тому

      I do not recommend editing as you go. For me it seems like writing down all of my ideas in the first draft is the best and then editing in the second draft because then you aren't holding your ideas back
