    I´m just a photographer but have done it most my life with passion and now finally rolling around with professional grade equipment. Never shot skate before but went out today with the intent to shoot some skate. Went all alone to one of the big skate parks here in Gothenburg Sweden. Smoked a joint with some skating kids and let them see my work. And once they did they were stoked for me to get down. I rigged up my flash and got tons of keepers of them mid air. Looking forward to share the shots cuz I know I got some keepers that will be very well received. So being just a decent photographer will work out great the first time if you do it right. Thought I´d say that :) Have fun!

      Cheers! I bet that was a really fun time. Anywhere I can go to view the photos once they’re ready?

    Always love seeing more people shooting skate photos. That issue #64 of Skate Jawn is the one that I got a shot in. Was so stoked to see it printed in a mag.

    I like taking inspiration from skateboarding magazines like North and Thrasher, but ultimately just trying it out and heading down to a park works wonders. Normally people are super chill when you say you want to take photos, just tag em in the shots if you post it on insta for example, that's what I did back in college

    Nice video. Sth to consider when buying a fisheye is the size of the sensor of the camera. I started doing skateboarding photography back in 2009, and by this time I had been skating for 10+ years. The camera I started shooting with was a Canon Rebel 2000, it's a camera that uses 35mm film. Obviously, I had to buy a fisheye lens for it. I found one in a local camera store and it was on sale, so I bought, a brand new Canon 15mm f2.8 fisheye lens. I was really hyped with this lens! Eventually, I moved to digital due to the cost of using film. The camera I could buy was a Canon 40D, a nice midrange camera with an APS-C sensor, but back in the day, I didn't know anything about sensor sizes and no one told me anything about it either, so when I mounted the 15 mm fisheye on the digital camera, I immediately noticed the field of view was not the same I got from my 35 mm camera, and didn't know why. Then, I found out that to have the same field of view I had on my 35mm camera, I should have bought a different camera, one with a full-frame sensor, which was out of my league. Therefore, I ended up selling the 15 mm so I could buy a Rokinon 8mm f3.5 fisheye. Eventually, that 40D broke down, bought a 7D mark II. The 7D mark II broke down recently. Now, I have a 5D mark II, and I'm now selling the Rokinon 8mm fisheye to buy, the now classic, Canon 15mm fisheye again LOL. You can check what I do in photography here instagram.com/collado.photo/?next=%2F

    Great video man. I've been skating on and off for 15 years, started shooting it 3 years ago. got an ad in skate jawn with one of the local brands and thats been such a highlight for me. Everything you said is spot on for the journey. Your work is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more. Price Holt is the guy i look up too, so I get what you mean by trying to incorporate what you learn from their work into your own.

    What a great introduction! I learned as much from you as in this week’s Canon event with Atiba Jefferson. Very practical, aspirational, and respectful of wherever your viewers find themselves with regard to gear and experience. Well done, and thanks

    Hey man, thanks for all the helpful info. Just got my first flash, it's a godox tt350. Thinking maybe I should've gone for something more powerful because finding it hard for the flash to cover the whole frame. Thinking about getting a small softbox to help spread it a bit better. Do you use one of those? Also not sure if I missed it but what flash model do you use? Appreciate the help dude x

      @@chrisdunn3241 Definitely understandable. A break from everything won’t hurt anyone, as long as it keeps you motivated in your personal passions. “We can’t fight Mother Nature for it raining, knowing we’ll see sunshine again.” Just a quote to help when you feel like the weight of the world is unbearable. I’ll check out your website though. Stay safe Chris🤞🏽

    Good stuff. Skated forever and took pics on and off for a while.
    Wanna take the leap forward to a speedlite flash. Heres where I got confused.
    Everything I read, says theres a limit to your available max shutter speed due to flash sync (which I totally understand)
    But you reccomend (with flash) , speeds of 1/500 to 1/1000
    Am I missing something ? the flash sync speed of my Canon 1200D is 1/200

    • @chrisdunn3241
      @chrisdunn3241  2 роки тому +1

      I’m not entirely sure for your flash in specific but on mine I can set it to a high shutter mode. Maybe try looking into it and see if your flash has something like that too.

    • @barrythornton9947
      @barrythornton9947 2 роки тому

      @@chrisdunn3241 K , so your using it in high speed sync mode ? which essentially fires the flash twice .
      Therefore it may be important to bring that into the conversation on Skate photography , as shutter speed , with any sport or `movement` photography will prioritise shutter speed.
      Need to make sure the speedlite / camera has this feature before purchasing a flash. Thanks .

    • @kevknc6517
      @kevknc6517 Рік тому

      @@barrythornton9947 high speed sync let´s me use a shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second. That's as fast as my Canon r6 can go. And you don't even need to go that fast at all to freeze the movement of a skater mid air. But it does let me expose for the sky on a bright day to preserve the highlights of a dramatic sky. And then just use the flash exposure for the subject/skater. With is one of the things you want to learn how to do :) Good luck ( a year late, I know)
