I have the opposite situation, Hex is moving very slow, where as my lab is so frenetic (spastic) that she runs so fast I can't get her to track. This is also a problem when quartering a field, she runs so fast that she has actually stepped on a pheasant. Any tips on how to slow her down would be appreciated
I was wondering about this recently. Question though: why did you start with a duck and then move to pheasant? Would a duck scented dummy work the same?
Any tips for getting my pointer to not eat the bird? My female does phenomenal with bird retrieval, my male tries to eat the bird before he gets back to me
Mine is the same. Have you had any progress with this? Even during our progressions in FF, when I give him any distance with it he tries to eat it and then I’m correcting (something I hate doing around birds)
At this point he doesn't have a trained retrieve so we would just encourage him to finish his recall and know we have some sloppy retrieving habits to fix in the future!
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!

Ducks have a stronger scent.
Yes, ducks have a stronger scent so we start with duck drags so the dogs can learn to use their nose to follow a strong scent trail.
Great video! How old is Hex there?
He is 11 months old!

What would you do if Hex started getting mouthy on his first bird in this situation?
