- I got to teach English at a refugee camp in Greece - volunteering abroad, for free! Want to know how to volunteer abroad? I'll tell you all about my experience with volunteering in a foreign country, how much it cost and how you can do the same 😊
I volunteered with a grassroots organisation called We Are Here at Nea Kavala refugee camp in Northern Greece. I found them through Indigo Volunteers - an amazing website that matches people who want to volunteer abroad with local organisations and NGOs looking for help.

@Nicole M lmao im studying for med school which is beneficial for me , i was supposed to be volunteering abroad in a malaysian school and the med centre near it though i decided because of covid i didn't want to put anyone in danger and have stayed home trying to do the most i can to build up my resume for med school . i'm not stepping away for my education im shining a light onto things that make me happy and put me further up in the world with my schooling and career .
@@emiliat4132 You can do that without bragging about your age. The comment sounded a bit pretentious and naive which is why we mentioned about education first. However if your planning on doing something in your summer break go ahead. I’m also 16 and considering going abroad where the need is greater to get into an IVY or Russel Group uni down the line.

@@emiliat4132 I’m in England myself. I think I have a clue about the British System and volunteering improves your likelihood of gaining acceptance on your UCAS statement. Your aware of this. Hello! New subsriber from Greece here. I was just curious as to where was the camp situated? Where you on an island? Also its really nice to see someone adressing the issues these people deal with. Locals for the most part try to help, them but there is so much we can do as simple civilians.

Yeah, I agree with that! Your housing is unlikely to be covered unless you have key specialist skills.

Yes. There are many refugee camps with large Syrian populations in Greece, including the one I volunteered at.

Most volunteer abroad schemes that I’ve come across make you pay a fee, these are free but you need to cover your living expenses (although some organisations might even cover these for you, based on your level of expertise ☺️).
