Fabulous. I just need to work faster as things dry too quickly lol
I'm brand new to watercolor painting. Just learning to use water to change values not white paint! BIG lesson. Thank you!
i should practice this, i think whats missing in my pieces is they never have enough contrast
Thank you. I really needed this today. I still struggle with the water portion. The art paper by Bee i started with is way different than 100% cotton... the struggle is with balance with water & values. But I'm not too be deterred & will continue to practice. I can do it while i watch you it's a room with the light flipped on, but on my own, it's like it's an empty room with a candle. Keep showing us how. Your style & love of the art shine as a beacon to what we can do if we just keep practicing.
I have looked at other artists tutorials of late and always find myself returning to yours, great teacher, easy to follow and information is plain and simple ,thank you Emma
great video ❤
I have just you and my grandchildren buy the book you the week ago thank you for writing it its helping me with the bad days ×××
You are a fantastic teacher! Very easy to follow, and your tip for checking saturation is GENIUS!! Thank you so much!
I’m glad I was using Prang as a first time trying. I still love painting with it. It’s creamy and vibrant!
But I was using it like acrylic.
It was perfect and really nice to use it for learning. It even mixes beautifully.
That said, I am too frugal to have wanted to spend what I do now for my paint. Just looking back, I would have spent/wasted a lot of money my first week if I had used what I use now.
Thanks to Emma, I waited and learned!
Prang and a kid’s watercolor pad were perfect!!!! I think I spent 3.00 USD on the first paper. I used all 25 sheets too!
Yes I did!😂
Used to use prang too! They are a great budget option
wonderful floral painting....... greetings
Great tip with the photo!!
Wonderful lesson!
I love your videos. You have a great teaching style.
I really enjoyed this lesson. Tried the trick with the camera. Interesting. Love all of your videos, I am learning so much.
Thank you for sharing this information, it gives me more confidence to get back to watercolour paintings. 😊
Thank you so much!
This info was SO very helpful!
🎨 🖌 🌼 🌸
Thanks for this class on "Values". Looking forward to learning about other art elements. New subscriber. 👍🏿👩🏿🎨🤗
You'll like her channel. She's one that actually teaches what she's doing in detail. Normally you have to learn mostly by observation. You will learn a great deal from Emma.
She’s a great teacher! Go back and check out her other videos. She taught me so much about how watercolor works and what to expect.
@@ArtBrain Thanks 🤗
@@RendaJane Thanks. 🤗

the way your hands talk with you ... I love it
Thanks so much ! great idea to take photos 👌
Solid and helpful. Thank you.
I am so excited that I found your channel! I'm a beginning watercolor artist and I'm thrilled that there are UA-cam videos available so that I can learn the art of watercolor painting! It's something that I would not be successful at wiithout proper instruction, so starting out I'm trying to find my way by watching inspiring internet tutorials and copying what I see on the video. Your videos are the ones that I have settled on and I'm thrilled I found you! Some things I like about your tutorials include the fact that you have a lot of content, you go at a good pace and explain things well, I like your speaking voice, and from there your style is something that resonates with me. Your work is beautiful and it's something that I can see myself doing in a similar style that I would also enjoy doing. I love flowers so as an added bonus your subject matter is exactly what I would like to start out with as a beginner painter! For my birthday I got a little portable watercolor kit with a watercolor tablet about 6 by 7inches; portable and not daunting but still big enough to work. When I celebrated Christmas with my mom today, one month later since I got my portable watercolor palette, she gifted me another beginners kit of 24 metallic colors and a $25 gift card to a craft/art supply. I am so excited to get the supplies that I have learned that I need, especially the proper round pointed brush! I've also been watching videos about acrylic fluid paint pouring for the last 5 months and finally have most of the supplies and the gumption to start that art form as well! The things I get to learn from youtube! Now I can cut my hair, do my makeup, study art, have all my favorite music at my fingertips. I was a 90s teenager so I'm glad I got a taste of American culture at the time before the digital age but I sure do appreciate being able to educate and entertain myself with everything at my fingertips in my pocket all the time! Thank you for your content from the central coast of California ! 🤓
Thank you Emma
Great lesson with good tips!
Thanka for a great lesson ✨
Thank you so very much! I'm very new and not understanding some of the terms people use. I now understand what value means. You can teach an old dog......LOL
Thank you so much Emma!❤
This is VERY helpful as an ultra beginner. Thank you!
Thank you. Great practical tips on values
Thank You for share
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you! So very helpful
What an informative and helpful tutorial, thank you. I love your videos and your natural style.
Thanks, Emma! Very helpful.
Thank you ! Saved this video. It's very insightful 💕
Thank you Emma, that was really helpful.😊
Muchas gracias Emma
Thank you Emma great video!
I use the b/w photo myself for acrylic painting, I’m still learning watercolors, it’s a great tool to use for seeing the grayscale in your paintings. Good lesson.😊
That's a really good idea !!! 💡 🤔 👏
This was a very informative video with excellent info. Thank you so much for sharing!
Great tutorial! Thank you so much!
Great tips! Thanks
Excellent
This was great! Very very motivating!! Thankyou:) just looking at photo tips ! Wow
Very helpful! Great video!
This is EXACTLY what I needed! I got carried away with my new paints and used only bright pigment I knew it was not right once it was completed but didn't know how to improve it- the I stumbled on your video. Needless to say, I've subscribed, thank you.
The saturation tip is brilliant - thank you!
Goddd! I love those two flower babies!!!! 💞💗
Thank you Emma. Good piece of advice. 🤗
Thank you this is very informative 😊
Whatever the medium you use, value is very important and something I often don't think about. This is a great reminder, thanks!
Very helpful!
Wow, that phone tip is so helpful! I have trouble gauging this on my own. Thanks so much.
Great video Emma!
This is a great lesson Emma. You're an excellent teacher!
Thank you Emma! Another excellent video!! A wonderful and helpful tutorial!! Thank you! ❤
You are my favourite instructor for watercolour!
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thanks for the tip. I looked at my earlier work and found that was my problem.
Wow. That iPhone camera saturation trick just blew my mind.
Great lesson, Emma! Other artists mention values being so impt., even more so than color choices, but none have explained/shown the importance as well as you have! Awesome camera edit trick for checking values; I had been uploading the photo to my computer and then changing it to black and white. Phone edit so much faster (now that I have figured out how)! 👍👍
Thank you Emma. This was a very helpful and quick lesson. This is the perfect length for me and also focusing on one particular detail is great, to drive home the lesson. Loved it.
Very helpful
Great video, very helpful! Do more like this where you explain in detail the steps. Btw, love the tip of taking the picture and doing saturation 👍🏼
Loved this one Emma! Thank you!
Thanks a lot for sharing your art advices, they're very helpful 🎨🙏
This is a MOST appreciated tutorial. Great tips, that I need, thank you!
Amazing
Thanks for the tutorial. I understand the concept. I also may just use one of this type of floral in my February subscription box. My peonies look oddly like a rabbit with two of the pedals hanging down. The subscription box piece is pretty tough, and a few simpler flowers would help!
Thank you, Emma. I always enjoy your tutorials and found this particularly helpful.
This was so helpful to me , thank you so much Emma! I have been struggling with my flowers, and not liking them, now I can practice this! 😊
What an informative lesson this was! You are a great teacher, thank you so much for this.
very helpful
Great Lesson Emma!
I had so much fun watching this early (enjoying my Parteon perks *wink). The black and white photo was so cool to really check it.
Great video and thanks so much for that tip about taking a picture of your art piece. I frequently photograph my pieces and it helps me to see the piece with more perspective. However, using the saturation facility is a brilliant idea. Love it 😀
Great lesson, Emma! Your advice is so easily understood and nicely presented. Love the photo/saturation technique. Thank you!
learned so much from this tutorial!! Thanks Emma! Can't wait to try these new skills out tomorrow! :)
Thank you, Emma.....super helpful for this newbie! Loved the pic taking idea and can't wait to try it. Have a great week!
Thank you Emma! This was a very good tutorial for me and I appreciate it!
Thank you so much Emma!, I seriously needed this tutorial!!!. I’m afraid I am one of those having trouble with contrast until recently I was doing all dark which frustrated me. So having you explain all the ways to improve makes so much sense to me. Thank you for the concise way you explain it, and using the camera really put a period on the entire tutorial. ❤
Super helpful video Emma! Love your easy to follow teaching style. I’ve mostly done landscapes, but branching off into loose florals. You have really great content to help with that. Thanks!
Great tutorial!! I’m a beginner and after watching this I’m definitely joining your Patreon 😊
So helpful! Thank you! 😊
Good job Emma. Makes sense..
Love .Dad.X
This was a great video Emma! So very helpful!🥰
Thank you very much Emma. This was so helpful! This might just bring me to the next level, whatever that is :-)
Awesome and I loved how you show and seeing this! What size brush are you using? I went to the senior center art teacher she keeps telling me to relax my hand let it flow can you show me that of your interpation. I love your work!
Thx for the good info. I see you are holding your brush down on towards the bristles. Do you get better control when making the flowers? I'm new to watercolor and need all the tips I can get, lol.
I guess. That’s just how I comfortably hold it 😊
This is such a helpful video! Checking the contrast on your phone is a great idea! Would I be adding contrast if I dropped in a second color to some of the petals or leaves?
If it was a darker value, yes
Thanks I’m new with watercolours. This was very helpful. Could you tell me what’s the name of your brushes?
It's Craftamo by Emma... link under video.
