I watched this video while getting ready to go school, no one knows how happy I was in the morning. Nice video ❤️🥰
Awesome 👏
I have an Ex-Canadian Military 1952 LHD Series 1 80", and the wings are exactly the same as all the other Landy's from that time. My immediate thought was either a Minerva or a Lightweight, but those were produced after yours! Great episode and good looking car!
Dream Land Rover, wish I got interested in them when as you said “a time when ppl were not interested in old Land Rovers”. Beautiful vehicle hope you enjoy it for many more years.
Somewhere around 2005-2008, there was a (non dealer) shop in Indianapolis Indiana (USA) that repaired, restored and I believe sold old Land Rovers. When I was there, they had at least two that stood out because of the bobbed front fenders. I was told they were military. Those I'm sure are long gone, but if you can make, or have contacts with, L.R. enthusiasts in the central Indiana area, they may be able to help you locate the shop owner or someone else that might know of a military model that is for sale. Good luck.
My grandad worked on Series 1 Land Rovers out in Dhekelia, Cyprus in 1963 he drove one and towed a trailer with it they had quite a few out there he was in REME TA.
Great place to learn that! Beautiful island Cyprus too!
Islandrovers he said it was hot out there and he said you could fill bumps when you drive series 1s.
Nice video,i also have this one ..1952 model, gretings from Indonesia
Absolutely awesome videos. Please keep uploading.
Cheers! That's the plan!
Thank you, very enjoyable to watch, awesome !!
Cheers Henk! 69 years old and still going strong
@@islandrovers Hi Conrad have a look at this UA-cam video, the front fender might be an Australian Army request ua-cam.com/video/jCPg47IXgiY/v-deo.html
Henk van Rossem hi there! Thanks for that Henk, but it definitely wasn't Australian.
Fantastic video. However, I am gutted to see that you have not posted any more for the last eight months. I would love to see more about this amazing Series 1 and your other vehicles. 😎😎😎
That’s a cool car! As I said I’m a Land Cruiser guy but these Rovers deserve this kind of love. What a shame what is happening with the newer ones. Keep the good work! I enjoy a lot your videos 👍🏻
Thanks Humberto! The old Cruisers are pretty damn cool too
Sir, that was a very good experience to watch this video and to know about her majesty. I can see that your father too was a land rover fan. Her majesty is still beautiful. And good luck with finding the spec of the Canadian relative
Thanks Ziya for all your support!!
The T grille you had before is t g e correct one for your late 51.
I have an early 51, very different...lights, door flaps, engine, gearbox all different.
Brilliant Conrad 🙌
Cheers Brendan! All those years of fun that went undocumented !
Nice video!! Hope episode 2 arrives soon!
Thanks Fernando! Look forward to posting episode 2 soon!
Its a 1952 model (manufactured in late 1951). A simple chassis number search will show this. Thus you have the wrong grille on. Although it looks better.
Very nice, I do like those "lamps-through" 80" models.
The best out of the three early styles for me ! Thanks
@@islandrovers I agree. My absolute favourite would be the lamps in wings IIA though still with wire grille. But I kind of like them all anyway haha!
WOW! My Dad also had a Mini Moke and then a Mehari, and also a white 2-door Range Rover!! Also a 3-series Land Rover. Sadly only the Range Rover remains. I’m in the process of restoring it right now. Absolutely love your channel. Looking forward to more content on the new Defender. I’m undecided on whether to get one.
Someone once said “the biggest coincidence of all, would be the total absence of coincidences”
Now that is some coincidence! What can I say - great collection! Thanks for following!
When I saw the strange front wings which were fitted to your series 1 they reminded me of the military lightweights, but don't know about Canadian military spec stuff. Glad you put the original style ones back on, those others really were pretty awful looking lol.
The only Series one with squared off arches were made in Belgium by Minerva. There were not like those on your 'Rover, so these wings remain a mystery.
Very interesting story, hopefully you can find out more about the Canadian spec
I really hope someone knows something. It was in an age before mobile telephones otherwise I'd have taken pictures! 🤦🏻♂️
First class Conrad, gonna grow subscribers rapido if you continue like you started
Thank you dude! Glad you enjoyed it 🤙🏼
Desperate to know how you achieved the in car shot at 9.30- your channel will do well- you have a TV background?
Hey there! Sorry its taken a while to reply! In car shots were done with an insta360 camera. Good piece of kit! No TV background, but public speaking somewhere along the line !
@@islandrovers what I cant get my head around is if you are using the selfie stick, how come its not moving when you steer? is there a small kid holding it crouched in the footwell?
The camera shoots footage in 360 degrees continuously. Once captured, you can choose which angle you want to view from (in any direction) plus there's image stabilisation and the 'stick' gets digitally removed by the software 👍🏼
I have the same one in left hand drive in USA. I didn't have the indentations on front of fenders like yours show as it has no markers at all. I also have some aluminum molding on the sides but some is missing. I've have it about 30 years and the title was last issued prior to me in 1967. I would sell it or be willing to trade it to someone serious.
Is the best, I like
Thank you!
I have a series 1 here in Canada that was former military. It has factory wings. However, perhaps they were custom for more northern climates to help with snow build up in the inner wing?
Those front wings look a lot like what they had on Australian army series II land rovers. Easy to find pictures on the internet.
Definitely! I've seen lots of those. If only I'd had a camera to take a picture of the 'Canadian 80 inch' all those years ago
Islandrovers
The Lightweights have that square look.
Conrad! Do some more videos
Last one,, appear to be series II and were called gun buggies. IE had a mounted recoiless rifle on it.
Very entertaining how did you find out who the first owner was i am trying to locate the first owner of my 2a d Smith
Hi mate great story. It wasnt a Canadian army land rover it would have been a Australian army land rover. I have one
The wings look like landrover lightweight wings
Great story. You are lucky to have it. Beautiful Rover!
Thanks Alan! 👍🏼
Don’t laugh, but I had white spoke wheels and 33 inch tires on my Series III.
Alan Ottley the fickle turns of fashion !

A pic of a rover that had fenders like you were describing...
Course the Canadiens, bless their souls, ran the VW Iltis as well. It certainly was boxy.
I had to look that up! Looks like the g-wagon's poor relative!
@@islandrovers It was surprisingly capable.
The Itlis was made by Mercedes at first, then the majority were made by Bombardier under license.
I don't think Canada ever had military Land Rovers.
American Jeeps were the norm
@@joeboosta6309 no MB never had anything to do with the Iltis as they were in direct competition with it. Bombardier did build a licensed vehicle and were the main supplier to the Canadian Armed Forces. Quite a few countries used the Iltis and most ended up replacing them with the G-Wagen.
@@joeboosta6309 we had some in the 1990s for certain have seen a 1997 wolf with my own eyes
Just out of curiosity..... what type of car is underneath the cover in the shed you pick out the frontwings?
Its a Speedster.
Where is the review video you mention? I can’t find it.
Aussies cut all their wings with a square cut. When I first saw yours, I figured someone was trying to mimic an airportable, albeit very badly.
Yep, I think a lot of military Landies were done this way - various different styles. Gotta track down that elusive Canadian though!
0:06 What twit fitted your shed doors on upside down ?
8:36 I think it was based off of a lightweight Land Rover
The Australian military had series 1's with cut wings like that, I've seen a few photos online.
They're similar yes, but not quite the same - I think the Aussies has s2's and 3's 👍🏼
Just returned here after seeing identical wings on an 80" Land Rover at the start of a Bergerac episode, albeit hard top and looking like Registration J7347 . See YT healeyrick . Was this the same vehicle ?
I 'll check it out! 👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks Phil
Just watched it! You're a genius mate! At least I know I wasn't dreaming now! I need to check whether my car has previous registrations that match 👍🏼👍🏼
@@islandrovers Looking forward to the outcome, must have been after 1985 ish seeing 'C' reg cars in the ferry traffic.
The car in Bergerac is LHD. I doubt if it was the same car.
why 2 different plates j11304 and j4951
How much now do Series One go for?
Anything from sub £1K for a basket case in need of full restoration to £30k+ for one thats fully restored or highly original. For a runner 'with character' I'd say to budget £10k in the UK
Islandrovers
In Germany already up to €100000!
Lovely story. Thank you for sharing.
Okay, I am three years late. Turn off the background music. It is beyond me why UA-cam content creators think playing background music over their voice is somehow enhancing their videos, it is not, it is distracting. We came to hear you, not to fight background music which quickly becomes extremely annoying and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your voice they must also concentrate on tuning out the music; frustrating. Your background music ruins an otherwise exceptionally good presentation.
Then there were the Belgium Minervas: www.allisons.org/ll/4/Minerva/LandRover/, which had a square angle wing, that was pretty ugly, although not as ugly as Her Majesty's.
It still hurts to hear someone else say it 😂😂 damn they were ugly though!
@@islandrovers Sorry, that was a low blow, probably best to do as the Queen with Andy and just not mention it. ;)
J Denmark 😂😂😂
I was just going to say, could it be a Minerva?
Liking the vids Conrad, more please 👍🏻
kevsbrevs 👍🏼👍🏼
IF ANY video has somebody standing in the foreground talking, oh BAD................ I'd like to hear about the item discussed, nut having talking body in front is soooooooo painful. Unless I am already sleepy i tune away immediately
Can't watch a video with the sound out of sync.
All very interesting but I think using the name "her majesty" is in real bad and horrible taste.
