"How could you not like this?" Best commend EVER! Hope you give Pentatonix a view again. You might like their "Evolution of Music" which focuses on musical styles throughout the centuries/decades.
I love it too! I grew up in the 1960’s. Watched their television show on Saturday mornings. I knew every single song. The transitions and the songs they chose were delightful.
What a fun, upbeat way to start my day! Every time I watch this, or any of their other ‘Evolution of ..’ music videos, I try to imagine how in the world they worked out all those smoooooth transitions from song to song, then performed it without instruments or a backing track, just them the 5 of them. I’ve read they do the Evolutions maybe 4 times then choose which one take is better. If you want to see them do this live, it’s part of their Popspring 2016 4 song set (3 really great originals, plus this Evolution). Even if you don’t react to Popspring 2016, just enjoy it on your own .. it’s a tough call but I think my favorite original of this performance is the Kirstie-forward one called Water. Hope the rest of your day is great!
It's great isn't it :-) so well put together, it's seamless in how they do it. There is a live version from the Pop Spring Concert 2016 if you want to see them do this live (and it's just as good!). I'm always amazed at how many songs they 'covered' in this evolution - and it's one take. They are masters of their craft. I'm really glad you enjoyed this one.
The fact that you have not been a big Michael Jackson fan actually makes your reaction to this more real and impressive because PTX have made you like a medley of Michael Jackson songs!
All of these "Evolution of..." videos are a single take (hmmm, that's ambiguous - I mean that they don't cut and paste, they just sing it straight through and if they didn't get it right they start over and do it again from the top) and, of course, the songs included are in chronological order. And they're all excellent.
I hope it's entirely possible to be a Michael Jackson fan, and still love this medley - PTX works hard to pay respect to the originals, and it's obvious that a LOT of work went into this tribute.
What a good way to start out a new week! I worked out very early on that Michael Jackson, Donny Osmond and I are the exact same age. As a kid seeing them on TV, that was always my first thought. Not in a “wow, my life sucks next to them” way, but rather showing me that anything is possible. Never bought any of their records either, but still know the songs. And I think you may have to retire your “I’m not really a fan of a cappella” stance. You like Pentatonix, and I am so glad you do. Well done. Peace from Ohio …
Got a little chuckle when you mentioned contrasting the originals against the PTX version, thinking there were only a few songs in the video. All of the "Evolution of..." videos have 20 - 30 songs in them, and the transitions between songs is part of what sets them apart. While I'm not sure all of the Evolution videos would be "in your wheelhouse", they've done Evolution of Music (you might like that one), MJ, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Ariana Grande.
Good call. I bet ACL would enjoy Avi's solo work, though his best ones are originals. Maybe we could seduce him with some covers, and then gently slide him into Avi's beautiful originals... 😉
So happy to see you take us up on this suggestion! I'm not sure I would agree that PTX did MJ better than his originals (as they often do with other covers), but I loved watching you bop to this. I get the impression that you can be a bit cantankerous about your music, so it was especially delightful to see you smile, and hear your praise for this unique mash-up. They are a very creative and talented group, and as you noted, they had iconic music to work with here. How could it not deliver? I hope Sue enjoys it as well. And I hope you continue to find something fun and worthy in a cappella. Greetings from Canada. 🙂

It is absolutely fantastic
Agreed!!
Best Evolution (in my opinion) that they have done! The transitions from song to song is incredible!! Thanks for this one! ❤️
Welcome!!

Before watching... "It has like, 4,5 or 6 Michael Jackson songs in it" ha ha ha Pentatonix says,
"Hold my beer!"
Hahahaha Right on Robin!!

Exactly!!
You might also enjoy their Evolution of Music.
Hey, your audio is sounding a lot better. Glad you're feeling better too.
Thanks T!!!

I 100% share your opinion regarding Pentatonix - and regarding Michael Jackson. Sound quality was really good! Have a nice day.
Thanks Andrea!

Yeah Badger I said maybe 5/6 songs
Wow was I wrong
So good
You should check Avi’s cover of Lean on me. His solo work is awesome.

@@kayecastleman6353 Couldn’t agree more! Avi is my favorite singer/songwriter. His voice is velvet.
I agree 💯!

Thank you Kaye!! Glad you suggested it. It’s one of my favorite reactions to date!!!
