3 ways to interpret "out for a rip" it depends on the context of how its used (no particular order) 1.go for a cruise 2.taking out the quad/ski doo/dirt bike 3.getting stoned and if you get the reply "giv'r" that means yes/do it
That’s actually how it sounded in my mind when I was typing my comment 😂 I’ve been talking to a new friend that lives in Ontario so they’ve been educating me on all things Canadian 🍁 Love what you guys are doing really glad I found this channel!
I know the saying but us northern Americans know that's a Canadian saying. I'm in Michigan tho so most likely the rest of America (if u don't live in a state by the border) don't know that phrase. We never say that and never hear ppl say that, but If we do hear someone saying it we know it's a Canadian. But if someone in the states says wanna get ripped then that means wanna go get stoned. Btw tho loved the song, reminded me of trailerpark boys that takes place in nova Scotia lol. Love that show so much
We use out for a rip as going for a ride, or also take it out for a rip, when someone gets something new, like a quad or something, basically like a joy ride. I'm in southwestern ontario. These guys also have another song called "oh f@ck yeah bud". Pretty funny.
We say it in North Dakota. I literally live a couple miles from the Canadian border though. We have a similar accent and share a lot of phrases. Not sure about the rest of the states. Lol. I never get tired of that song!
The first time I heard it was in the locker room of an ice rink in Saskatoon during a company sponsored hockey tournament. I'm from Alaska and thought going out for a rip meant going to smoke some weed so it surprised me a little that the boys had this on repeat. I mean marijuana was legal by that time in Alaska and I know it was on it's way to being legalized in Canada at that time but I didn't expect them to be so open about it. Only later did I find out what it actually meant. I also learned about Canadian's obsession with Caesar's while I was there and introduced them to Alaska's signature shot, the Duck Fart. Look it up and give it a try if you've never heard of it.
I think it is important to realize though that this is more of a middle of the county and rural Canadian thing. Ontarians don't really say 'buhhhd' lol. They roll their eyes and get a little annoyed at my for joking about this. So it depends on where you are. I will say that we also use 'go out fer a rip' for mountain biking, snow machines, etc eh
According to the show "Letterkenny" that takes place in Canada, a "rip" is a line of cocaine. I think Letterkenny is hilarious, I love Out For a Rip, and your clip was fun. Just saying, me as an American not knowing Canadian slang until i saw this clip. I was picturing something different.
American's don't really use that phrase. "Let's go for a rip." We say, "Let's go for a cruise." Or "Road trip." Usually, if someone from the states says "Wanna rip?" Or "Do you want to get ripped?" It means do you want to smoke weed and get obliterated.
Yes and no. It wouldn't be strange to be asked to go for a rip. But I would be thinking hopping on a dirt bike/4 wheeler/side by side/snowmobile. Cruising is getting in a truck/car and driving through town.
Olympia WA USA The buds and I have officially always said out for a rip however we’re in the country and my family came from Canada. Connection there who knows. Anyone feel like a rip!!?
It's actually just going out for a rip literally, Like in a beater truck and/or crappy car that all of our buddies used to drive while off roading, The best times back in those days.
This is the first video I’ve ever seen on your channel where I couldn’t understand quite a few of the words/lyrics. Other than “out for a rip” and the f-word, the rest was largely unintelligible.

Getting ripped and going out for a rip are two different things 🤟🏻🖤🇨🇦🤝🏻🇺🇸

Rip or ripped in indiana usually means you're bout to get stoned or high. So to me out for a rip means we're bout to smoke and get ripped.

A rip for going for a drive is Canadian. down here in the states. You might take a rip , but that means hitting the bong or thing

Going out for a rip is like going out mudding or skiddooing or dirtbike with freinds

I'm thinking rip as coming from 'rip roaring good time'. So I assume it means out to party. Never used it though. Ky.
