  • This is a detailed step-by-step video instruction on removing the battery and starter motor on a 2016 (and adjacent years) BMW R1200GS and R1250GS Adventure motorcycle. The process will be similar for the R1200GS (non-adventure version) with the slight exception of some body panel/fairing removal. We show every step in the process including every body panel, cable and screw/bolt removal. If you plan to change your battery or starter motor this video is for you! Also, if you plan on flushing and bleeding your clutch line you will need to remove the starter motor to access the clutch slave (release) cylinder bleeder screw.

      @@zooskifilms It was trouble both ways 😀but installing was more difficult. Had to cut torx bit to shorten the length after universal joint and finally angle was ok. I serviced the starter also...

And yes, I had to cancel my account with Paypal, thanks for mentioning it because I forgot about the links I had in the description. I updated them now, but the only options are Patreon and Venmo, There is also a "Thanks" button next to the Like button for the video (just below the video) where you can make a donation, but you need to have a payment method setup with UA-cam. That might be a lot of work to set up, so no worries, I really appreciate your comment!

    just subscribed today June 25 2023. I have a 2016 R1200GSA and remember removing the starter to get to the clutch hydraulic bleeder after deciding to flush the clutch hydraulic system. It was a major pain because I did not have a lift platform so I did it on my back. Lots of cursing that day! Getting ready to look at your coolant flushing video. Keep up the good work. I am also trying to isolate an intermittent problem with the front wheel tpms / RDC sensor connectivity. If you have any insights on that it would be great.

Is it blaming out or showing no connection? Do you have a GS911 reader? Hexcode has a page on their website on how to check through the GS911. PM me with your email and I'll send it over to you. Thanks again!

    I just did this the past weekend. What a difficult, finicky job. Once a mechanic advised me to remove the swing arm. One more bolt but it takes a lot less time to remove the starter.

    • @zooskifilms
      @zooskifilms  2 роки тому

      @Anton Van Der Merwe - Yes, so true, very very finicky. I uttered the words "no way is this starter coming out" many times during the making of this video. But it does! Taking out that swingarm would probably make the job easier but I was trying to avoid that extra work. I think removing the two bolts holding the exhaust/servo bracket would make this much easier. Didn't realize it until I had the motor out already.

    when i reinstalled the ground bolt on the starter i noticed that the thread was a little stript so i used a little locktide on the bolt wil this disturb the ground connection ?

    • @zooskifilms
      @zooskifilms  Рік тому

      @bjorn de decker - Sorry for my delay, had work travel for past two weeks. Loctite has a green version of thread locker intended for electrical connectors (among others). But I don't have any personal experience myself. I would just monitor the connection and look for any corrosion or oxidation build up over time. Cheers!

    What kind of glue did you use to reinstall the T30 bolt? Thanks!

    • @zooskifilms
      @zooskifilms  Рік тому

      @Jonas Abramson - Good question, I will add that information to the Description. It was basic super-glue. I needed something that would hold. I had some contact cement that I was thinking of trying, if the super glue was too strong. In the end it worked so I kept going. I put a very small amount and only on the edge of the bolt head so it could be more easily removed from the torx bit. If you watch closely you can see the bolt broke off while during the install, but I was able to push it in the rest if the way without it being glued on. Thanks and happy wrenching!
