At 2:55 she touches on something Froning said in an interview once. I'm going to paraphrase because I can't remember where it was but he said something to the tune of "There are guys that are faster than me and stronger than me but the question is: what happens when the pain starts?" I think a lot of the top tier folks are simply a lot more ok with feeling like absolute garbage and literally suffering more.

This is more specific on the commitment concept, but I think the one of biggest differences is recovery. A games athlete has a lifestyle that prioritizes recovery.

I think the ability to project yourself forward mentally and take motivation and confidence from future events has to be important as well. If you're going to reach the top in a sport (or any discipline), you're always going to encounter moments when you outgrow one level and rise up to a higher one where your skills aren't yet equal to the rest of the field (not to mention times when you just mess up and fail, or a new rival comes along who outclasses you); the capacity to still enjoy that process on the basis of the chance to improve and win in the future, even though you're getting negative results from competing now, must make a difference to whether someone can persist and put enough in to reach international status.

@TrainingThinkTank, if you were to coach Brent Fikowski, what would you do to help him reach the top of the podium, knowing that with his regional performance history, and one or two bad workouts, he may not even get to the Games in this new "Invitational" era?

How can you be an athlete and be in crossfit? Crossfit is for making doctors and surgeons rich.

So are games athletes on steroids?

    • @anthonyg4254

There is always those people that are going to try to get ahead of the pack and use steroids. CrossFit is doing their best to test for steroids. CrossFit does do random testing and the penalty is high for those that are caught. Most athletes are clean and are just that good of an athlete. This is just my opinion.

Stephen Duhaime 2017 3rd place finisher Ricky Garard tested positive. Some others tested positive after regionals. Some Masters also. Most of people is clean, the more you do Crossfit, the more you realize it. Maybe someone passed tests, like in any other sport. Innocent until proven guilty.

Ricky got busted for SARMS. He wasn't even smart enough to at least risk getting caught taking REAL drugs.

frozenkilt SARMS are much better for Crossfit than steroids, for strenght and recovery.
