Thank you for making this video. I just replaced the brake pads on my 2018 Toyota Avensis with an electric parking brake. Here's what I did: first, I started the car and released the handbrake using the button. Then I turned the car off (the handbrake stayed off). After that, I followed the steps in this video. I can confirm that to push back the brake piston on the right side, you need to rotate it clockwise, and on the left side, you need to rotate it counterclockwise. Thx from Sweden
I just come across your video and there is a service mode to disengage the handbrake and leave the power off. Switch the the car to ''ON' or ACC, but don't start the engine. Pull the EPB control and hold for 5 seconds. The AUTO (P) off indicator will illuminate. The parking brake will/should not engage when the car is switched off! When the job is complete, push the parking brake control and hold for 5 seconds and the AUTO-P indicator will go out. I have the first phase of the Mk3 T27 Avensis 2009, and the EPB is semi auto, meaning it auto releases when moving off, but has to be manually engaged. From 2011 the full auto system was introduced. Well done for pointing out the cut outs in the pistons and the position when fully wound in. I have done the rear brakes on my Avensis. One final point. No diagnostics are ever needed at any point!
Hi m8 great I have a toyota avensis 2.0drd and it is 2012 registered in the UK I want to change the rear brake pads myself but I am rea scared about the epb. Some people say just don't apply the brake and jack the car up leaving the ignition on. But this could flatten the battery. What should I be doing in order to change the rear brakes
@@mumtazzafar5696 If you have the owners manual, it will have instructions on how to put the EPB into service mode. Here is an extract from the owners manual as follows - Switching automatic apply mode from ON to OFF: Stop the vehicle in a horizontal condition and switch the engine switch to the “ON” position (vehicles without smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart entry & start system. Pull and hold the parking brake switch for 5 seconds or more The Auto P-off indicator light will illuminate. After finishing the work follow the above instructions to get Switching automatic apply mode from OFF to ON. In simple terms, with the ignition on, pull and Push and hold the parking brake switch for 5 seconds or more The Auto P-off indicator light will go off. The EPB will resume auto release and engage as normal. If like my Avensis with auto release and manual engage, just don't apply the parking brake!
Update: did service today, procedure is very simple,.Before brake service, turn ignition on and press for 5 sec. Parking handle, Then you should see on dash bord orange P this means that parging brake is off. Then turn off ignition and do brake job. That's it. P. S for eu cars cilinder pasanger side turn to the right, driver side turn to the left. After brake job press pedal brake pedal a few time, start engine, engage parking by pressing for 5 sec, now it's in auto mode, and you done. You don't need battery charge.
@@pomajzsolt4363the orange p is telling you that the auto brake is off so you simply release the handbrake with the switch and then you can switch off the ignition without the handbrake automatically applying.
I'll be honest I never torque the wheel or caliper bolts up, I just go off feel. To be honest most garages even main agents dont torque wheel bolts etc up. I worked for a main agent the only things we torqued up was cylinder head bolts, big end bearings things like that. So I would say for the wheel just get a braker bar and tighten it up. As for the caliper bolts they dont need to be mega tight 3/8 Ratchet just tighten it up obviously without snapping the bolts.
Yes that is a MUST do not apply handbrake until you have driven a couple of miles to bed in pads and disks. Avoid using auto function for two days until pads and disks settled in.
There should be no need for diagnostics! I have done brake replacement on my Avensis, and all is fine. In fact I thought the same about using diagnostics, and did try a reset. All this do was cause a major problem and cause the ECU to lose the zero point calibration. I had the luck and skill to fix this issue! So don't worry about using electronic equipment to do a 'basic' job. Not everyone will have access to things like Techstream, or know how to use it!

When I tried this the Orange P was on the dash, but the handbrake was fully on so I Could not removed the caliper.

What are the torque specs for bracket and caliper bolts? Wheel nuts are 103Nm, am I correct?

Wheel bolts 120nm, caliper bolts 30nm with blue loctite.
When finished do you pump the brake before applying the handbrake?????? ***

Is it safe to do it this way without the software
Won't there be a risk of the caliper ceasing after some time
I hope not. So far nothing has come back fingers crossed
And when did you do it
@@mimbel12 to be honest this is a taxi I did it about year ago and only last week I did it again everything was ok
He had done the mileage
