Your dad’s recollections are amazing. I have been at the Van Nuys Airport for decades and remember quite well when Aerostars were manufactured there. Excellent series - keep them coming!
TR = Ted Smith? most successful promoter in GA history. Jet commander, which lived on with IAI as the 1125 and now the G-150, Aero Commanders, this Aerostar, A-26, and many Douglas innovations before all that. Thanks Whole Lotta Ones!
another great Aerostar video you mentioned landing on short filed with my 600A we operated out of 2400 hundred ft runway and had no problem with short filed the stall 600A full weight 82 MPH full load would come in full flaps at 110 on short final then 100 at the button and would be stopped in about 1200 1400 ft. Of course most of my flying was at light loads, great airplane nothing even comes close to this aircraft, Christopher Ottawa Canada
I’ve always wondered if we could pick up lower EGT/TIT by improving the air inlets to the turbos, the stock boxes and J duct don’t seem ideal…. The bonanzas use a bell mouth straight shot duct to the turbo inlet, wish we had something similar, I bet it would make a differance. I think jack brush knew this and modified his at one point

Awesome to have this video hit this morning, my copy of "Stars and Commanders" arrived yesterday!
Easily some of the very best Aerostar content on the web. Thanks, Eric, for sharing these gems!
Morning Eric thanks for making us all realise just what we are missing
Really enjoying this Eric.

excellent work Eric! Living engineering history. Orders the book
Your dad is pretty sharp for his advanced years. Does he have any UAP stories while in the airforce?

I thought an Aerostar was an ugly-looking Ford minivan...
Gascolator....I think your Dad was trying to think of...
Thank you Ian, I believe you are correct.
