Golden Horn sentence that is mentioned in 4:10 is actually reference to the novel "Wesele" (wedding) written by Stanisław Wyspiański as a symbol of action and national liberation struggle, intended to mobilize society to fight. In the novel, the sound of the horn was supposed to wake up Poles to fight and mobilize them to participate in a global uprising, which, after the previous two unsuccessful ones, the one in November 1830 and the one in January 1863, was to be victorious this time and put Poland back on the map.
Stanisław Wyspiański probably took the Golden Horn from the highlander legend about knights sleeping in the Giewont mountain. The sound of the golden horn is to wake them up when the country needs defenders. That's why Gievon looks like a sleeping knight ;)
Composed by Feliks Nowowiejski Powerful lyrics by Maria Konopnicka In 1908 when Poland was still under partitions. Konopnicka as a woman is mostly remembered for her literary works for children while in fact she was a great poet in general. All this trying to make ends meet as a single mother of 6.
idk why but as a teenager and Pole always when i listen to Rota i start crying... its so beautiful how my ancestors fought for our country and also i have grandparents who remember quite a lot from PRL period and stories their parents/grandparents told them, its amazing that i can live in a free country and im really proud of my nationality, just like most of the Poles
I would love to see you reacting to Sabaton 40:1 live 2012. The song "40:1" by Sabaton is a tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Wizna, in which fewer than 700 Polish soldiers held off over 40000 German soldiers for 3 days in September 1939. The song's title 40:1" refers to the overwhelming odds of the battle and the lyrics tell the tale of the brave Polish soldiers defying the odds against them and ultimately prevailing. I recommend watching 40: 1 version from the Woodstock Festival 2012 (now Pol'and'Rock Festival) . Also after this song, the entire audience of +-700 k people sang the Polish national anthem. I always get goosebumps when I listen to this. Milego dzionka!

Yup, Polish is very orthographically transparent language so to speak, which means what you write is what you hear, not as much as Italian or Spanish, but once you get basic rules you will get the pronunciation of like 99% of words, quite different than English or French.
Author of the lirics Maria Konopnicka was a single mother of 6 children and an openly homosexual person, we are talking 19th century here. This did not stop the song from being de facto a Polish anthem at the beginning of 20th century. Usually performed in churches and on patriotic meetings. Konopnicka herself was a celebrity. Compare this with massive persecution of homosexual people in the West at the same time. This is a comment to your video from June when you were wondering if Poles are by nature tolerant or not.
I will be provocative and ask you what would you think about the song called "Hej panienki posłuchajcie" (hey, the ladies, listen up!), the interwar song which was meant to encourage women to volunteer to Polish Army. It differs heavily in tone from Rota you have listened to and would give a funny contrast. The song in question (I suppose best sang version): ua-cam.com/video/3ZrhTjaBFyE/v-deo.html

Chciałbym aby rota była naszym hymnem, rota>>>mazurek dąbrowskiego
Warszawianka z 1830 bije na głowę.
Poza tym, Rota jest Hymnem WP.
Actually, if you make a rap version of the entire song which keeps a lot of elements of Rota, many would highly appreciate it. Perhaps more on the political right (where it's seen as something directly applicable today), but I'm political left and I would enjoy it too. The music is just a bit old and slow and I've heard it too many times.

it's cool to watch such a video but I don't know why the word is said (a German won't spit in our face and Germanize our children)
before you start recording such videos read some history
Poland was occupied by Germany, Russia, and Austria for 123 years
in 1918 it regained its freedom but in 1939 it was attacked by Germany again and then sold to the Russian government until 1998
BUT WE NEVER GIVE UP
I see you have no respect for our culture at all. It's a PATRIOTIC SONG! Enjoy something else, not a song that is so important for our nation. Your country is not even halfway through what we are. And it doesn't have such a rich history as POLAND!! Mix something else, not THIS!
