You can't neither win a girl's heart by force (Chazz) or (this one can happen time to time, but not that usually) try become a boyfriend after a huge time being just cordial friends (Zane - yeah, did you notice that he was trying to get the puh in the lighthouse?). So, how can you (usually) make a girl fall for you? Don't try too hard and seem like you don't really care that much if you do or do not get the puh (Jaden). Guess who's the one she likes?! Either that, or it was just love at first sigth with Jaden! xD
It's quite true story, if girls likes you a little bit, if they notice that you don't really are that focused in them, they will try get your attention...well...seems like it's the same for guys...usually we like and pursue the girls who hardly notice us aswell. It's kind a psychological thing of us humans i guess...wanting more the things that are harder to have.

I think they like not being sure if they are reciprocated and as you say they try to get the attention of the boys.
