one of the best songs of all time. not sure why but from the 1st note through the last, the song just screams ROMANCE! do yourself a favor and grab the one you love, the person you share your life with and tell her/him you love them very much
43 frustrated guitarists can deal with this statement of creativity, sound, tone, balance, harmony in one song. The best instrumental song from the last 52 years. A Fender lap steel Deluxe, a cable and a Fender Amp, no effects, no tricks only pure sound.
i heard this, on cbc2 this morning...i love this old piece...very romantic...never slow danced to this...maybe one day, with someone special...if i should be so blessed, that the lord should hear and answer my prayers...l.
Everyone can interpret music in their own way, but many people think that's this song would most likely go with the death of someone or reminiscing to something or someone. I personally feel sad when i hear this song.
This song reminds me of my dad. My mom say they used to play it in my dads souped up 1986 Chevy while she was pregnant and that's why I like it so much. I love them. I play it on my iPod over and over again. Doesn't get old.
Are you thinking of "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise"? That was written by Romberg and Hammerstein in 1928, from the musical "New Moon". "Sleep Walk" is from 1959 and is a variation.
An old girl friend of mine from the Rock & Roll days passed a year ago. She loved slow dancing with me to this. (And I with her) We met at a reunion 8 yrs ago and danced again, just like 1960, again...really she still looked and smelled, and kissed the same. R.I.P. Linda, you are in my heart forever, and you still live in my mind when I hear this music.
when my cousin pass away we listen this song all the way to he's resting place. because of him i started to listen to oldies .This is a great song and it brings very happy and sad memories.
I have great memories of being 8 years old, sitting in the back seat of my dad's car with my little sister, hearing this on the radio, just going out for a ride, what beautiful music ...♥
This piece... i mean... it's kind of like a deep, emotional goodbye to the 1950's. If this song doesn't make you yearn to time travel back to that great decade... you probably had a hard and unglamorous time back then.
This is intensely original & incredibly haunting. Beautiful in every sense of the word. Someone mentioned in another post - bass sound - there's definitely an off-camera bass player and drummer too.
Hands down greatest instrumental ever. Thank you LaBamba for introducing me to it as a child back in 1988. I've now been enjoying it for over 20 years and counting!
A shame the guitar is so soft. Also, the audience applause drowns out the last 3 guitar chords. This will remain one of the great rock instrumentals of all time, IMO.
This song was one of my earliest recollections, listening to this from my crib in 59-60. It must of been the steel guitar and unusual arrangement that stuck with me all these years. Thanks for the memory.
i was amazed to learn that the melody was played on a steel guitar. For years i tried to play it on an electric guitar and it never sounded the same. After watching this i realize why. Its still perfect.
This song is so fucking legit. I LOVE IT! It comes from my favorite era and I can't get enough of it. A good love making song lol ;) this footage is awesome
Thanks for sharing. This takes me way back to my high school days. I attended a boarding school and we had a senior dance with college boys. I danced this song with the guy I was with for the evening!!! :)
This song is so beautiful! I love it, I have loved it for over 25 years. My Papa played it when I was little. The melody is so haunting. A true work of art!
used to hear this song coming from customers's on my paper route in a time when it was safe to have the windos open. i think the ventures may have remade this, but this is the best version. thanks.
This song will never die. Santo and johnny have been immortalized by this gorgeous song.
My grandpa would play this for me on his Steel Guitar. Brings tears to my eyes now. Love and miss you Grandpa.XOXOXOXO

Javy C Best comment!
+ Javy C Too bad I don`t have such a person. Nevertheless, I like this song.

We played this for our AMAZING DAD at his service ~ he is from Brownsville, THE VALLEY, Texas.....

Written in 1959, recorded in 1920.

Ritchie Valens would have fallen in love with this song. Gone too soon indeed.

So romantic, no words but it still has meaning. Just beautiful...Music these days has no comparison...
Looooong one of my favorite songs. In my opinion, it may just be the most beautiful song of all.
I think the same: the most beautiful !!
This piece... i mean... it's kind of like a deep, emotional goodbye to the 1950's. If this song doesn't make you yearn to time travel back to that great decade... you probably had a hard and unglamorous time back then.

Always like this one, even as a kid..., and I was a kid in 1959... Thanks for the memory
hay versiones más estilizadas, pero por favor! es genial ver a los mismísimos Santo & Johnny interpretándola
Hands down greatest instrumental ever. Thank you LaBamba for introducing me to it as a child back in 1988. I've now been enjoying it for over 20 years and counting!
I was 15 when this first came out. I remember it like it was yesterday. Jesus Fucking Christ, it's hard to believe it's been 55 yrs already!
My friend, if I may be so intrusive, please go easy on the language.
Cheers.
One of the most beautifullest songs evar!! Never ever get sick of it...played it probably 20 times in a row just last night...as I do many nights.

I love that song... It brings back memories of a time I was not even in this world... I so love it
A shame the guitar is so soft. Also, the audience applause drowns out the last 3 guitar chords. This will remain one of the great rock instrumentals of all time, IMO.
Ces "glides" de guitare hawaïenne sont vraiment romantiques voire érotiques... Merci d'avoir mis en ligne cette archive des années 50 !
101 people who don't know what musical creativity means. I have no empathy, nor sympathy for any of em !
Nearly 2 million people have watched this and only two of them have commented. It is probably a flawless song.
in the video we see solo and rhythm, but sound solo and bass?
Often imitated, but NEVER duplicated!!
Love this tune. It's a shame you can hear the steel and the bass, but not the git.
This song was one of my earliest recollections, listening to this from my crib in 59-60. It must of been the steel guitar and unusual arrangement that stuck with me all these years. Thanks for the memory.

Classic and timeless, the steel guitar sounds 'dreamy'.

this song was my original inspiration to play guitar and still is. a wonderful piece.
every time i hear it, it relaxes me so much I almost fall asleep. So I believe they were shooting at showing you how it feels to sleepwalk
