@@toshikosatoru8483 that is...not true lmao. remember: the beatles, abba, queen and many other bands that are now "classics" were mainstream back at their times and were hated by the "underground pop music sucks" crowd. you can simple not be much interested in mainstream music, but if you are making generalizations like that know: it's simple not true bc mainstream is just what is accepted by the radio and tho there are times were it does become repetitive it is in an completely state of change!
I absolutely hate when people call them "Gorillaz" like, only people with actual literacy skill should listen to them cause its pretty hard to understand their genius lyrics.
If you think you have niche music interest you won’t after a week at an art school. It’s like a competition of who listens to the most obscure music, it’s insufferable. I gave up on trying to diversify my tastes and now listen to One Direction and Radiohead exclusively.
I hate it when people dont want their favourite artists to get popular. "How dare they get recognition for their hard work and be able to pay bills and make music."😤
My top seven favorite bands are Blood Ceremony, The Bridge City Sinners, Jess and the Ancient Ones, Lucifer, The Oath, Thundermother, and Twin Temple. I’m always trying to give them a boost.
I love it when small artists I follow get recognition BUT a lot of them suddenly change their entire style to radio-playable tunes (and start sounding like everything else) and I definitely selfishly wish that happened a little less often.
“Yeah I don’t really listen to mainstream music…” The music that isn’t mainstream: chase atlantic, the neighbourhood, mother mother, girl in red, mitski, clairo, cavetown
Obviously humans want to feel like they're special, like they have a purpose in this mundane life. I only listen to under 100 views psychedelic black metal albums recorded with a game boy camera in some basement in norway, everything except that is a sellout
I only listen to Japanese new age records from between the years of 1983 and 1987 that were designed to create a soothing ambient environment at dog groomers
You're very true. But why would they be dissin on us anyways. I don't like mainstream music, but I don't hate them either. Sometimes there's really good mainstream song and I'd vibe to that
There should be a name for artists that aren’t entirely mainstream but aren’t underground cause a bunch of the artist in this video would fit into that list
It’s not that. It’s bc ppl will listen to popular music and have the audacity to say “omg I listen to such UNDERGROUND music” even tho they 100% don’t . Like if u listen to the popular music embrace it, no need to pretend that the music u listen to is unique when it’s not
Right? We literally don't give a sh*t what kind of music you listen to, mainstream pop or not. Just don't make that your whole personality trait whether you listen to one type or the other or even a mix of both as if you're somehow more interesting if you listen to the less known ones ☠️
Kendrick definitely beats them all in mainstream appeal though lol. But I'd say Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys are second level mainstream. Clearly not on some Billie Eilish level but most people under the age of like 35 should know who they are.
@@Dielawn69 Eh, Tame's definitely gotten really big over the last few years, especially with The Slow Rush, but I honestly don't know if they've even reached Arctic Monkeys-level of fame yet. There are still a shit ton of people who have never heard of them and I've still yet to hear a Tame song on the radio, whereas Do I Wanna Know and R U Mine are still in heavy rotation and can be heard at least twice every day, 7 years after release. I just dunno if Tame's music has as broad of an appeal to the masses, especially their first two albums.
There's this scientist who turned himself into a pickle. His name is Pickle Rick. He's the funniest shit I've ever seen but you probably never heard about him.
It's no coincidence that a ton of songs with millions of hits don't sound good to me. I like some. But majority of them do not vibe with me. It's not the numbers. It's the music.
@Demos Thenes @Mia Garcia you two obviously havn't listened to their discography. But i respect the opinion about Pink Floyd, however Queen doesn't even come close.
I never understand why people feel the need to disparage "Mainstream Music" in order to feel better abt their music taste. Sure, it's fun to feel like you kmow some little secret or whatever, but in the end isn't it nicer to bond over shared tastes than to use it like a competition?
I know, it's like people think that listening to artists that are not current popstars makes them special or different or whatever. I love listening to many old bands and artists (that WERE mainstream at one point) and some new artists as well. Most of my friends listen to rap or emo bands, and while I don't listen to those genres, I don't hate on their music tastes because music is meant to be special, and if they enjoy it, I respect their taste.
@@WavySeal music taste is a personal thing, man. It's fine if you like old music or don't like popular music but it doesn't make your taste better than anyone else. Personally I love a lot of modern artists, and I certainly wouldn't mind them getting more popular.
@@finpin2622 I never said it wasn't, there's popular music I like now too. But the lyrics are written by an entire team so often, the music or beats are dull and generic, there is hardly anything new or exiting anymore. So much of it feels like the bare minimum needed to push our the song lol. I do music production and just look at the beats used in modern songs today. It's basically the same rehashed beat in most pop songs lool. That doesn't mean people shouldn't like it, but certainly dimishes it's value. Again, not all songs. Just a seemingly much higher quantity of them. How many pop songs today will stand the test of time compared to that of the last century?
In general I don’t think that liking anything can make you more or less unique, because all of our interests and ideas come from our life experience and environment, which is unique for every human on earth.
@@bisexualspacesocialist2025 i mean liking the same music as the majority of people does make you less unique in terms of music taste, but the actual issue is why does being unique matter anyways... people shouls just like what they like and don't like what they don't like... isn't the point of being unique like... just being yourself and not caring about what other people think?
All jokes aside, this mashup is like a kaleidoscopic celebration of all the popular music that ranges in style and brings a lot of people joy, I love it!
Only Currents became mainstream, but his first two albums were definitely not mainstream with the exception of feels like we only go backwards. For the most part, Tame Impala is NOT mainstream.
@@xxmatrix0xx-oldemail697 9 out of the 10 most popular tame impala songs have more than 25 million plays. That's almost the exact definition of mainstream. But, nothing wrong with that, remember that Gorillaz and Radiohead are also mainstream.
I mean most of this is mainstream, right? Kendrick, Bowie, Gorillas, Kanye, Radio Head, Frank Ocean and Queen are all just as mainstream as Tame Impala, in most cases far more. Even Earfquake has 66 million views , and Travis Scott has his own documentary on Netflix.
I get that, it’s strange. Many genres and sounds overlap (especially the strange and bizarre) and sometimes these popular indie/alt artists can be a gateway into a more bizarre genre
i have to listen to extremely loud, overlapping music. if i don't, i get anxious because the idea of no noise, the silence, scares me. i genuinely cannot stand it when people are like "i have a weird music taste" and then judge you harshly for your own taste.

There's this pretty underground artist called Beethoven....he's like REALLY underground. You've probably never heard of him :/
I mean, there was a point where even he hadn't heard of himself in a while...
I mean he’s dead, so he is literally underground
Damn Beethoven getting flamed out here
Specifically 6 feet underground.
