We heard a loud popping and hissing sound in the cabin of our 2001 Lexus LX470 that would not go away. The culprit: the Mark Levinson amplifier went bad during cold weather. This video at around 3:00 helped me find the amplifier under the passenger seat. Without taking the seat out, I moved the seat back, pried the Lexus door strip with a flathead screwdriver, lifted the carpet under the passenger's seat and unplugged both cables from the amplifier. This stopped the noise. My next step is to buy a used amp to replace the old one.
Glad I could help! But you are correct! The amp is right under the passenger seat.
Just did mine your video helped, thank you for your effort!
Thanks for making this! Going to do mine this week.
Where did you wire the speaker wires to? I just see where you cut the wires at the amp but not where any of the speaker wires you ran through the dash get wired in to
The speaker wire runs straight from the speaker right into the head unit.
Chris nice video! Learn alot from here. Planning on doing the same thing for mine. Did you have to modify the mid housing unit to fit the 6.5 woofer?
My woofer in the "trunk" is disconnected. It was blown so I didn't bother with tinkering to get that wiring right as I was just going to go aftermarket when the time comes. It's been 3 years though since I made this video almost and uhh, that time still hasn't come and I'm fine with the way it sounds. Plus my kids sit in the back and don't like a lot of bass, rightfully so. If I do decide to replace that sub though, I'd likely just get a small aftermarket amp to make the setup go way faster and easier.
Thank you brotha
You bet
Chris, this is a good video, thanks for sharing. Where did you get the quick connects?
Sorry for the delay. UA-cam stopped alerting me to comments. But you can get them from home depot or Lowe's
Thank you, Brother...
Does your sub work?
Sub? what's that? LOL, to answer your question, nope. But it's never worked, I don't even know if it's one back there as it makes and always has made, zero sound. Even with the factory head unit so it's at least disconnected.
Quick question, where do you connect the amp turn on switch?
Hey, Its usually a blue wire that's labeled "remote".
does anyone have a suggestion on a good stereo replacement for a 2001 Lexus LX 470?
My Android head unit is going on 4 years now. Still works great! I couldn't do anything other than that now.
@@ToolDeals was your stereo originally mark levinson?
What year is this for please?
2001 Mark Levinson
Is this for head unit with climate control and if so which did u use
Sorry for the late response but no. Not for climate control. One of the reasons I didn't get an 03+ LX
So is your factory rear sub woofer disconnected with your new set-up? wondering if I can power door speakers from head unit and send subwoofer output from head unit to factory amp and continue to power factory sub with factory amp? Im about to attempt the same on 2001 Mark levinson w/o nav too.
It is disconnected but the amp isn't. The head unit wouldn't work without the amp being connected. It's because it uses the ground from the amp. I could just create a ground for it, but I was hoping the sub would still work but for some reason it doesn't. I did this mod a year and a half ago now and haven't revisited it. But I do miss the extra bass especially after driving my LS430. I'm thinking if you can figure out the wires for the sub from the amp and splice those to the wires for the sub to the headunit it should work just fine. I'll look into it once I finish these Phaeton projects.
Things That Really Work Just powered up my install to test it out and I don’t have any sound in my mid and tweeters. Im in 2001 lx470 with Mark levinson non nav. Any ideas? I’m powering speakers with head unit just like you. Which 5 wires in the factor connector to original headunit did you use? Battery,ACC,ground,...?
Don’t cut into the factory wiring. Use a factory harness pigtail. I have a huge headache fixing what the last person did needlessly cutting into the factory wiring instead of spending less than $10 for a factory adapter harness. Don’t do what this guy did.!
otter9099 they don’t make one for this system. It’s 8 wires that need to be spliced, what’s the big deal?
Looks like a big mess. Look at all the electrical tape.
