My ranking of the Keeper books (spoilers ahead)
9. Flashback 3.5/5: easily the book I wouldn’t reread. For the longest book in the series, absolutely nothing happened. But there is a satisfying character death in the end.
8. Nightfall 4/5: This book was pretty good. I liked how Sophie’s sister and human family were a big part in this and the fact that Marella turned out to be a pyrokinetic threw me for a loop! But there were two very long slow moments and this book ruined the ABSOLUTELY GUT WRENCHING ENDING OF LODESTAR.
7. Legacy 4/5: This book was also pretty good but there was way to many relationship drama in this book. Also I hated Fitz in this book! He was so selfish and was only thinking about himself when Sophie was deemed unmatchable. But we did find out SOPHIES BIOLOGICAL MOTHER so I’m glad we finally got some answers regarding her parentage.
6. Unlocked (novella) 4/5/ The novella was pretty great and there were a lot of shocking moments throughout the novella that I just can’t put into physical words! Also on a side not- I felt really bad for Dex’s brother 😭
5. Exile 5/5: This is easily the most emotional book of the series. This book deals with so much loss and I almost wanted to cry in a few scenes
4. Lodestar 5/5: I actually didn’t mind that Keefe wasn’t in the story that much. I do feel like SM only focuses on Sophie, Keefe, and Fitz so this book made it so the other characters could have their moments to shine. I also wouldn’t loved to see Brant’s death on page though...
3. Keeper: 5/5 This book started it all. The problems that Sophie faces seem so minimal compared to her problems now. It’s almost laughable that back then Sophie was stressing over her alchemy grade when now she’s fighting back against an evil organization.
2. Everblaze: 5/5 This book had so many plot twists and was one of the most gripping books of the series. This also was the most anger inducing book of the series cough cough Council cough cough 😷
1. Neverseen: 5/5: This is easily my favorite of the series. So much tension and build up for an amazing climax. Also the ending was so sad but so fulfilling at the same time.
I am also obsessed with webtoons but the ones that I recommend the most are Castle Swimmer, Siren's Lament, The Croaking, Purple Hyacinth, Mismatch and Your Letter!
I highly recommend The Remarried Empress. It's very fun but also very political. Something you'll really enjoy. This is my favorite webtoon.
This webtoon is sooooooo good i reread all the time🤭 GIVE ME THE DIVORCE EP!🤣🤣
Same I am waiting for the divorce ep like i cannot waitttt
The 8.5 is very important, plus it has a dual pov from Sophie and Keefe. I feel like it definitely starts to give big answers to the plot.
Lol keeper of the lost cities is definitely addicting 🤣
Yes it is worth it to read at least the novella!!! The extras you don’t have to read (some of its kinda boring) but the novella is from Keefe and Sophie’s POV and it’s really good!!!
Unlocked is a definite must read. I just finished it and there are HUGE plot points introduced in the ending novella. But there’s also a lot of extras in the book like recipes, quizzes, character profiles, etc... it’s also a good catch up book if you haven’t read the series in a while. Tbh if it doesn’t interest you, just skip to page 505 and read the novella.
You should definitely read unlocked..well, because the novella in this is told in both SOPHIE and KEEFE'S perspectives!!!
The novella at the end of Unlocked is definitely important to the plot. Also, will there be vlogs for the rest of the keeper of the lost cities books?!? Because I absolutely loved the first few!! 💕
Thank you! I’ll definitely go ahead and get it then! And yes, the vlogs are coming! ☺️
I absolutley love this channel and i relate. I adore the positivity ❤️ the books and the vibe :)
Keeper of the lost cities is my fav serieeee, I loved hearing you say good things about it. Volume 8.5 is necessary because without the short novel you would be lost. The guide is useful if you haven't read the saga for a long time, which is not your case. If you read it anyway I'd love to know what you thought of it!
Two things. One if you go to Shannon Messengers website there is a Keefe short story for Nightfall. Then there is a Legacy short story for Fitz. Second thing. Unlocked only has a small novela but if you don’t read it book nine will be very confusing. You also get both Sophie and Keefe POV’s! Great job on the video!❤️❤️❤️
Ahh thanks for all this info! Definitely going to look into all of this now ☺️
Aww man The Kiss Bet and Jackson's Diary are so good!!
I would LOVE to have that kind of series commitment
Beware, it will take over your life and you will get nothing done lolol
Great video! Love seeing you try different styles of writing.
I can’t wait for the next installment of her reading this series!! I just bought unlocked and started it it’s good background story bible type things so far
In Flashback we spent 10 effing chapters at the school hospital. I feel your pain.
That was about 350 pages... 😒
@@jacklemm1518 I thought it will never be over. And the worst part was that we had to be with Fitz and i really don't like him.
@@tappkalina I hear ya. He’s a real douche, especially in Legacy.
LOL YES. LIKE WHYYYY.
My two favorite WEBTOON are I love Yoo and Unordinary. For manga, I recommend Orange. Loved the video and I’ll definitely be checking out Keeper of the lost cities
I'm literally starting a Buddy Read of The Keeper of the Lost Cities in two days because of you! I'm so excited 🥰 I read the first volume of Rat Queens this month which I would recommend since it was really good!
Ahh I hope you enjoy it! ☺️
I've been reading Jackson's Diary too!!! It's so addicting, I really love it ahhh! If you wanted any more recs, I would rec Brass and Sass because it seems so up your alley!! My faves are Muted by Miranda Mundt (It's the sapphic witches one, not the boys I haven't read that one yet haha!!) And Shiloh which is a really cool and dark story about demons and stuff. It's got an amazing artstyle goddamn
Ashley, I'm amazed this is your first time reading manga, and even more surprised you haven't watched any anime, but so glad you are giving it a chance. Also last year I started reading webtoons, here are some recs:
1. If you like fantansy and romance read SubZero
2. If you like stories set in a monarchy with all the "court gossiping" included and romance (of course) read the Remarried Empress
3. If you like fake dating read Unlovable Replacement (well "fake dating" falls short with this one, but I do not know how to simplify it, so...)
Enjoy!
I'd highly recommend the webtoons "Purple Hyacinth" and "The Remarried Empress" :)
It is definitely necessary to read unlocked. The short story is great and some of the other content is really fun too.
hey ash! yes I think it is important to read 8.5 before 9 comes out. It gives out important information about what happened after Legacy so you should read it to know what’s going on :)
April was by far my most successful reading month. I read six books and am in the middle of three other ones. And yes, I am in the middle of like three different series.
I started Arc of a Scythe last month because of Ashley, and omg Thunderhead is my new favorite book and I am making all my friends read this series.
Ahhh yay! I’m so happy you’re loving the Scythe series!! 🥺❤️❤️
@@adashofash omg yesss, they're SO good. I had to put a pause on The Toll because of school, but I can't wait to get back to it!
I just finished catching up on Demon Slayer and it gets so much better after the train arc, so you're in for a wild ride.
As for webtoons, I would recommend Under the Aegis which is a complete fantasy webtoon and Love Advice from the Greak Duke of Hell which is a fantasy/comedy which currently has 2 seasons.
You should also check out Tapas which is another webcomic platform!
I've only read the first book but am planning to read the second book this month. Hope I'll love it as much as the first one☺!
Demon Slayer is a great starting point!! Definitely one of my favourites (despite having seen a lot now) I would recommend Ouran High School Host Club!! It's pretty weird but so well loved, either anime or manga highly recommend!!!
I’m so happy you read the kiss bet!!!! It’s so cliche but so addicting!!!! Yayyyyy
Yessss! So adorable too haha
the novella at the end of Unlocked is necessary to read before you read the 9th and final book. the rest of the context in the book is just fun fandom stuff but if you love the series like i do, you will love all of it!
Oh wow that’s impressive!
just found your channel and love your vibe!!
🥰🥰🥰
Webtoons are soo addicting!
The ones i would recommend are:
Clastle Swimmer - queer mermaids and prophecies
Odd Girl Out - the sweetest story about friendship and self-worth
Ghost Teller (completed) - ghosts telling scary human stories
Omniscient Reader - a fantasy web-novel that only the main character has read comes to life
I really love webtoon cause you can literally find stories about anything and see so many amazing artstyles. It’s truly one of the best platforms for reading
This seems like the most fun adventurous reading month! Enjoy the rabbit hole madness 🤓
i think you would really love the webtoons "Brass and Sass" and "Let's Play". "Brass and Sass" is a really fluffy high school band romance and "Let's Play" is a workplace romance that has 1000 love squares. they're two of my favorites!
for manga i really recommend orange (i cried a lot reading that) and the girl on the other side (my current favorite one)
yes!!!! you need to read unlocked!!! lol i skipped the first part and read the novella first hahah. the other part is SO interesting tho :)
YO! KOTLC AND Demon Slayer?! My worlds are colliding and it is on your channel! I haven't read the manga but the anime ACTUALLY slays!
As for KOTLC, book 7 redefines the word 'unnecessary' - I completely agree. My personal favourite in the series is book 8 but I can't remember most of what happened in it so I'm looking forward to your vlog! Book 8.5 is definitely worth reading but not buying - 70% of it is a waste of paper and ink tbh... but the short story is very important regarding Keefe!
Hahaha I’m looking forward to watching the anime, so it’s great to know it’s really good! And thanks for letting me know about 8.5! I was thinking about not actually buying it anyway, so I gotta figure out how to read it now lol ☺️
Yeeeees, you need to read Unlocked. It has novella in sophie and keefe's POVs 💖 as a slow reader, I couldn't believe I finished them all super fast 😂
I'm also obsessed and in love with mangas and anime😂...you should try these mangas if you're interested :-1.Ao haru ride
2.snow white with the red hair
3.my next life as villainess
4.who made me a princess
I'm sure you'll love these ..give them a try
ARE YOU A GENIUS. Only a genius would read that much of this series in ONE month. It took me about 6 years to complete the Percy Jackson (Not because I am slow. I finished one book in one day, but I was waiting for the release.) The Keeper Of the Lost Cities take SO LONG to finish. I also loved the covers of almost all of the books.
So yeah YOU THE GENIUS
😎🥳🧐🧐🧠🧠🧠😼
Ps . You looked constipated when you were taking about the 7th book. So sorry. But just my opinion
Some additional Webtoons that I'm really into are Unordinary (Fantasy, magic), True Beauty (Romance), Your Throne (Political navigations! SO GOOD), and Midnight rain (Romance and gives me a bit of drama shows vibes)! Even more additional romance ones include Mystical, To Love your Enemy, and See you in my 19th life!)
My favorite webtoon is Sweet Home! It’s also my favorite kdrama!
Great video!!
You and Reagan should do a book talk for keepers of the lost city I think it would be fun.
Time to recommend some of my favorite manga!
My Hero Academia as well as its spinoff/prequel Vigilantes, Persona 5, Haikyu!, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Erased, The Case Study of Vanitas, Anonymous Noise, Kakuriyo Bed & Breakfast for Spirits, and Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle.
Have at it 😂
The last book in keeper of lost cities broke me😭
I love your hair!
Thank you! ☺️
You should really watch Fullmetal Alchemist. It's so good, one of my favourites!
I can totally relate to your experience with Keeper , its very immersive n, cliché ,does NOT solve a lottt of plot points , really good characters , fast paced , blends together when u read it in 15 days 😂 🤣!!!!!
I tried out the show demon slayer wasn't a big fan maybe I'll start my manga journey with that one !
You should try out unlocked while yes it has a *VERY* short part of the actual story it has Keefe's pov which is imp and some revalations that you'll be surprised at aka not surprised 😂!
This month I had a weird reading month too lol,
• I reread the whole of the Infernal Devices in one weekend (omg that was painful, and it was like 1,500 pages in 48 hours)
• then I decided to listen to an audiobook one night and then I got hooked and now I've read the first 3 books in the An Ember in the Ashes series because it's so good I could hardly get any actual physical reading done! (and it took ages cause audiobooks are way slower than my actual reading series)
• then I just read a couple of random middle grades for something at my school with some of the younger students
so definitely not what I planned to do this month but that's fine because An Ember in the Ashes is literally so amazing and I'm glad to have discovered a new fantasy series!
also I bought some new books today so I'm excited to read them this month!
Omg those are all great books! I’m so happy you had a great month!
You have to read the short story, it's like 100-200 pages. YOU HAVE TO AND YOU WILL LOVE IT DYING. The rest of it I suggestion skimming through it cause the Keefe parts are hilarious if you ask me thank you very much. Also you MUST read the part juste before the short story it,s keefe drawing and he writes down his thoughts and... DYING
It’s been settled, I see Keefe and I must read lol
@@adashofash (it has keefe pov)
id say read it 8.5, it has a super important plot point in it, you can skip all of the extra stuff if you want to, i skimmed it
Book 8.5 is necessary to the plot. If you go into the next book when it comes out without reading the novella in Unlocked, you will be very confused. The first half isn't nececary but it's a good catch up on what has happened throughout the series.
The Fever King is a great webtoon! 😍
You need to read Unlocked, something HUGE happens and you will cry. book 9 is probably coming out soon so you should read it as fast as you can. keefe is kind of the main character in my opinion. AND THERES HIS POV-
The Demon slayer show is really good
Toilet Bound Hanako is SOO cute
Jujutsu Kaisen has amazing art work
My Hero Academia is really popular
There is a part of the story at the end of Unlocked and I personally think its pretty important
Also for book 5 don't think Fitz is on the cover. I thought it was Wylie and Tam but maybe I'm wrong
wyile has darker skin, and is on the cover of flashback.
@@rahhh5808 true but who else would have light coming out of their hands?
AH YOU DIDNT ASK BUT pls read your letter (webtoon!!) its a ghibli-esque short story and my absolute favourite along with spirit fingers which is sort of a coming of age story!! and the art is wonderful aaaaaa
a manga i recommend reading is The Promised Neverland! it is really good probably one of my favorite series :) the ending was a little disappointing, but it wasn't the worst
Yes this is exactly what I was going yo recommend as well.
So many mangas so little time!
I recommend Hooky on webtoon! It is really good and also pretty underrated
"I disliked things that people did in this book" me: fitz (at least i think thats what shes talking about)
you should read brass & sass, castle swimmer, andy bass and the blind prince on webtoon!!
the art is really good and they make my heart go 💕💘💗💖
I've watched Demon Slayer anime in April, it was great :)
Hey Ash! If you have not read the book Wonder by R.J Palacio, I highly recommend it.
i stay far away from webtoon because back in 2014 and 2015, I was obsessed with fanfiction and would read it every day and I did not pick up a book at all in those years.
Have you ever read or heard about a book called the women's war by jenna glass it's part of a trilogy I already the sequel the third book comes out this year
I love her explaintion to the kotlc books i love the books and knew what she was talking about when the stuff she didn't like and how she didn't like how fitz on the cover was so funny. And how in the vlogs are out now she was like fitz its fine and now the the books get points down for him on the cover
I know this comment makes no sense if you haven't read them (and prob even if you have) so sorry
And love your vids
Hahah thanks! 😂❤️ once my vlogs for books 6, 7, and 8 are finally out my feelings will make a bit more sense too lol
Ash, If you love webtoons, please read Space Boy and Cursed Princess Club, Lets Play, Suitor Armor and The Shadow Prophet. I promise you, they are all so enjoyable.
Anime is so good my husband is waiting to watch the movie so I can finish the anime and I am very happy.
April was my most successfull reading month 🙉 I read 7 books and heard 7 audiobooks. So in fact I read 3400 pages (760 pages were in english, since I‘m from germany thats always a bit challenging for me) and I heard about 50 hours of Audio books 🙉
Unlocked’s novella at the end is definitely important to the plot you need to read it! also will there be more vlogs on the keeper of the lost cities series?
Yep, the vlogs are coming!
@@adashofash yayyy!!!
Hey you should check I Love Yoo, Lets play, Age matters , Siren`s Lament and Assasin Roommate webtoons. They are really good as a story and the art is really really good.
Great webtoons:
My Giant Nerd Boyfriend (Slice of life, 550+ episodes, cute)
GremoryLand (Horror, Thriller, TW, 61 Episodes)
Delusion (Thriller, 60 episodes)
Crl+z (Thiller, Death-note-ish, TW, 76 episodes)
I'm watching Demon slayer on Netflix it's a good show to turn on with dinner!
THE NOVELLA'S IMPORTANT IN UNLOCKED!!!
Oh and for Webtoon recommendations:
Hooky by Miriam Bonastre Tur is really cute and it's going to be published as a book in September!
I really like Skye by Cynthia J.S., too.
It is necessary to read the novella, but the rest of unlocked is just fun information on the world
Also, the 8.5 novella is very sokeefe focused
I am in the middle of reading this series, and question: why dont you like Fitz?
where's your vlog for book 8
You should read Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. It’s reallly good and funny
Any good book recommendations for getting out of a reading slump?
Rereading one of my favs always gets me out of a slump!
I did the same!!! No shame!!!!
Yesss you need book eight point five skip all the elf info go stright to the novella. Book nine will be hard to understand without book 8.5
I really think you should read They Both Die at the End
I’m pretty sure you haven’t read it but I’m not sure
Some webtoon recommendations:
Miss Abbott and the Doctor - historical romance, extremely wholesome
Gourmet Hound - amazing representation, should not be read on an empty stomach
Super Secret - supernatural, friends to lovers
Where can I read webtoons?
Can you do a Webtoon rec video? I want to start getting into it
Lol I would but pretty much all the webtoons I’ve read I mentioned in this video! If I read any more I enjoy, maybe I’ll make one at some point!
You could read the novela online instead of buying the whole book I would recommend reading the novela after you've got your hands on the 9th book so you wouldn't have to wait because the novela leaves you on a cliffhanger
Lol don’t they all 😂 but thank you for this! Since I’m not feeling the strong desire to continue them right now, I’ll go ahead and wait a bit hahah
@@adashofash your welcome 😊
Tower of god from webtoon !
