I can see a giant international fleet of every modern day warship alongside every Military helicopter in service charging ahead with a massive formation of modern day jets of many nations all going through a giant worm hole and finally charging ahead to attack an alien planets shores.

I wonder, if Earth did truly unite, in a way where we keep our sovereignty, but still join together when there is a threat, such as an alien or extradimensional threat, how powerful could we truly be? It is unfortunate that there would be need to be an alien threat to automatically unite humanity, when really we should ALREADY be united. We all live on the same planet, breathe the same air, ect. Why would we not be united? And I understand we have our difference and some may not like each other, but we don't have to like one another in order to work together.

Well in my opinion, I'd say the reason is because of aging
People generally want to live out their lives peacefully without having to fight for anything and they'll do anything to fight for that inner peace
What i'm saying is, The reason Humanity is splintered is because nothing threatens our existence
As someone once said "Peace is just a period before War"
If say a middle-aged man has it all like wife, kids, big mansion, a butler and stuff like that. He'll generally fight to keep those things as it makes his life easier
And his only competition is just other's like him, Humans
We're focused on sponging out as much enjoyment of our brief lifespan as possible that we ultimately would kill people for it
But what happens when two feuding nations encounter something that will inevitably destroy them both?
They kill it. It's repeated over and over in History
Nazi Germany's control over Europe would've spelled their world domination which is why multiple nations that had once feuded put aside their difference to protect themselves and eachother
