Johnny Reb so many young men during that time never got to enjoy a world without war. Just thinking about them brings tears to my eyes. I wonder, had I been living during that time, if I would have had the courage to do what your grandpa did.

I often wonder the same to be honest with you.
A lot of those airborne guys never made it out of their planes...some of those who did ended up caught up on trees and telephone poles only to be basically murdered by the Germans when they found them.
(A parashooter's weapon was strapped to him so he wouldn't lose it on the way down)

I really wish my generation would understand the sacrifice that was payed for in blood so that they could live in a free nation. I had a WWII veteran thank me for my service and I told him "Why are you thanking me? I haven't done anything. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to live in a free nation. You are the real hero. Not me." I give my full respect to all WWII veterans for a war that really was for the freedom and safety of the world. Any veterans reading this, thank you for paying for my freedom.

Our soldiers thought up funny Nick names for weapons like the Bouncing Betty's and such. But for the MG42 there was nothing funny about that thing. They Nick named it The Bone Saw. And that's what ripped them to shreds as soon as the gate fell.

Jon Paradero really I think it was Battle of thermopyales, Battle of Longewala, Battle for Tarwa atoll,. Or the stand of the few SAS operatives against hordes of barbarians.
If you look closely it wasn't even a contest. The Germans were tricked into thinking that attck was someplace else. ... Think about what would have happened if that trick did not work. Still the Germans fought like Tigers, the Americans fought like eagles... Nothing to take away from anyone. All were soldiers there... Each fighting as gallantly as they could. But I will give it to the germans. They were surprised, ill prepared, and even then massacred an all out war machine marching against few men with machine guns. .... I guess they were the Leonidas in this. Oh btw check out the stands of 21-Sikhs, or Battle at Longewala. That website 'badass of the week' really has cool information about battles fought around the world.

The anniversary of D-Day. This is the day that thousands of the best and brightest of our loved ones stormed the beaches of Normandy to give their blood, sweat, and lives to destroy the Nazi war machine. When i feel lost, their stories give me guidance. When i feel fear, their sacrifice gives me courage. When i feel weak, they remind me to be steadfast.
As of late, too many people have forgotten what it means to be a true American, and the honor that is to die so that another can live free. We have forgotten to respect each others differences, and that true Americans fight to the death for each others right to speak their beliefs.
We can never repay the sacrifices they made for us, however, we can honor them by remembering the way they lived their lives and when the day comes where we must stand to protect our freedom we will do so just as they did, and die proudly if necessary. We are not special. Freedom is paid for with righteous blood, and we must never forget that.
I will never forget, and i will never quit.
Pleas join with me June 6th and honor the survivors and the fallen of WWII.
To the American fighting man. Our brother's should never be forgotten. Thank you for helping to give me the razor-sharp moral compass that I have today.

If you are a real student of American military history, you will find that coincidences and chances of fate that seem "almost a miracle" happened to the nation time and time again.
Of course a secular historian cannot write and perhaps cannot even believe that some divine providence and hand of protection was on the nation in times of crisis. It requires an act of faith to go from the evidence of that which seems almost miraculous to believe in an actual miracle. In this nation, you are allowed to think God just stood by and did not intervene. We are blessed for the moment to be a free nation where you may make up your own mind without fear of repercussions. But even someone who doesn't believe in God, if they are being honest, must confess it was almost a miracle.

People aren’t hiding their social differences anymore, new laws have passed, people need to be more tolerant, and we haven’t gone to war with an opposing nation that would motivate us Americans to defeat evil. There’s just no cause worth fighting yet that us Americans are willing to die for. Sure the war on terrorism is an important aspect and we need to defend our allies but a real threat to the US, a real, tangible threat with guns and armor of the same caliber, threatening democracy and murdering thousands of people, now that’s not there yet, until then we need to cultivate our economy and strengthen our nations unity and tolerance.

What these soldiers did on D-Day should never be forgotten. Visiting the beaches and learning about the sheer mass of people and what they had to do is incredible. One of the major sacrifices made to protect us all from fascism and liberate those trampled under it's foot. It was the first major turning point that led to pushing back the Nazis on the western front. There are a lot of people who bitch and moan about the USA for whatever reason but without their mass resources none of this or the Soviet turnaround against the Germans would have been possible. They provided not just a massive military might but also supplies and weapons to the British and Soviets that helped them push back.

79 years ago today, Allied forces launched Operation Overlord. This operation would go down in history as the largest naval invasion in history utilizing 5,000 landing craft, 289 escort vessels, 277 minesweepers, and 160,000 troops. 79 years ago today, the liberation of Europe began.

The 79th anniversary was incredible and I’ll never forget how Woody.EXE paid a really emotional tribute to them and we had a St Julian’s D-Day fly past for the first time since COVID. I had the honour of standing by a few D-Day veterans who were in the 2nd wave and when I heard their stories, I hugged them and broke down. I can’t wait for the 80th anniversary now in June

Phil Swift interesting you said this, because right now children in their late teens are going out into a global pandemic every single day to serve YOU food & supplies from restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations. And millions of healthcare workers in their 20’s and 30’s (like my wife, who is a PA-C Hospitalist) are leaving their children & spouses, going back into their disease-ridden hospitals day after day, exhausted, vitally low on gear, watching their friends and co-workers get sick, or even die; all to save YOUR helpless generation from peril & demise. If you don’t feel stupid right now, you definitely should!

Other grandfather was an ophthalmologist for the Navy who sailed on a hosptial ship and performed surgery on soldiers with eye injuries. If they were alive today to hear you insult what healthcare workers are risking & sacrificing right now just to keep you safe, they’d both call you a damn fool.

Say what you will about him, the things he did, the way he took care of business, I consider Franklin Delano Roosevelt one of the greatest Presidents of the United States. He was a liberal, yes, but he was a firm and steady leader in wartime whose words and whose leadership inspired and roused a nation to victory in the most expansive and destructive conflict in the history of humankind.
God bless you, FDR, for being the leader America needed in this critical time. And God bless every brave man who wore the uniform of our Republic as we faced some of the greatest evils ever to rise. So many gone but never forgotten, the Greatest Generation liberated an entire continent and preserved freedom and democracy for generations to come.
God was on the side of the Allies in WW2. And I pray that America may again find her strength and fortitude in the face of uncertainty and tumult. Not just for ourselves and our own future generations, but for the blessed memory of the millions who fought and bled and suffered and died that victory would be achieved seventy years ago.

Nah. Operation Overlord is the GOAT of WW2. A massive, allied beach landing, pushing against the dug in Nazis, in a fight to liberate an oppressed Western Europe. All the Russians did was defend their own country after being betrayed by the Nazis (they helped the Nazis invade Poland ffs), and being saved by winter. When they were on the offensive, the Russians annexed every nation in their path. They didn't free anyone, like the US, UK, etc did.

    • @IMPERATOR-EL
      @IMPERATOR-EL 6 років тому

Collin most of what you said was wrong, soviets and nazis were never allies, that’s like saying Russia and the U.S are allies because they both fight isis, and you can think whatever you want but when operation bagration happened in the east 2 weeks after overlord the German high command was far more worried about that than overlord I suggest you read Stalingrad by Antony beeever, and operation Barbarossa by David stahel so you can learn
