    Having been a member for quite a few years, I always go with a list. I have a budget and a clipboard. (Yes, I get mistaken for a staff member sometimes.) But it is the only way I know to hold the budget. I add up the prices as I go (great math practice) and I prioritize if I bump up against my limit. Yes, I tend toward the nerd side rather than the free spirit side, but we are paying off our mortgage early because we can hold the budget. Holding the budget IS taking advantage of the discounts at Costco!

    Costco is so addicting! A new one opened up down the road from me, so I was using it as my main grocery store. I was spending $500 a week, plus needing a regular grocery store a few times a month, we have a large family. My money saving tip is to go less often. I only go once a month now and spend $1000, that’s a big savings from what I spending every week. Costco makes you spend money so I had to cut it off.

    Love Costco! I’m actually going to there in a couple of hours. I have 7 items in my shopping list, I’m hoping I stick to the list and not go way over my budget! 😬🤣 Tip: when buying in bulk share certain items with a family member or friend and split the cost with them. This works for me because it’s just me and my husband and that way I’m not wasteful and I save money. 👌

    New to us - cheap dessert for a crowd - buy the muffins - cut in 1/2 or 1/4 and top with ice cream/fresh fruit or both. Get up to 48 pieces if you cut into 1/4 size for under $8. I highly recommend the blueberry muffins with fresh strawberries on top - mix the strawberries with a little sugar and let sit in the fridge for an hour or longer so you have a little syrup when you use them

    The Costcos in Houston do not have places to get eye exams that are owned by Costco. However, there are eye exam places attached to the building like there is also a liquor store, which is also not affiliated with Costco other than being next to it.
    They do sell glasses and contacts in Costco, and the price on glasses is PHENOMENAL. The savings for glasses alone more than pays for a membership. I bought a pair of prescription Gucci frames with bifocals, antiglare, scratch-resistant coating for around $250!!!
    If you have an executive membership, you get back two per cent each year on everything you bought and also qualify for their insurance programs.

    • @gingerstrahan7464
      @gingerstrahan7464 3 роки тому

      I don’t think any of the eye exams are “owned” by Costco…but the independent optometrist usually always agrees to the. Costco pricing. I have found NO better place or quality or service than the Costco optical center (glasses). Had to go to a low vision specialist for my exam. Cost of exam: $385…their “in-house” glasses and prescription another $489. Held off and checked at Costco optical. Same exact prescription with full bells and whistles, scratch-proof, progressive, and light-to-dark and back (term is evading me), was a total of $130, including my frame choice.

    • @RachelJoyCamel
      @RachelJoyCamel 3 роки тому +2

      Aldi is usually cheaper for produce and has a greater selection of day to day food items. However Costco is better for overall quality and actually cheaper in a few categories. Costco is cheaper for organic snacks, bulk condiments, paper products and some deli products. I also buy all my meat and fish at Costco v. Aldi or grocery store sales because meat on sale is usually approaching it's expiration date, while Costco meat is very high quality.
      I would say it depends on how many ppl you are shopping for and what you actually plan to buy.
      For my family of four $300 a month at Costco gets us all paper products and household cleaning supplies, meat and fish, cheese, butter, eggs, snacks, organic pasta and sauce, frozen berries, avocados (one produce item that while cheaper at Aldi is SO much higher quality you save money at Costco) sweet potatoes and a few other sale items that very by month.
      I also do a weekly $60-70 Aldi/Lidl run after I meal plan and get mostly produce (Lidl is similar to Aldi ).
      For a while I was able to do $250/mo at Costco and $50 at Aldi but in my region food is expensive and I try to get a few produce items organic so that budget had me really micromanaging.

My scripts only cost me $1.00 per script through my insurance company. What I do buy at Cosco; TP, paper towels, canned chicken (for chicken salad) organic coconut oil, organic olive oil.
