    I just want to mention, that a fall from great height is also often reserved for villains who have a high opinion of themselves. It's symbolic of a fall from their desired station: above everyone else. Seeing them build themselves up, often through their progression in the story sets them up for their literal "downfall". "Gaston" through lyrics, "Be Prepared" through visuals (mainly) are meant to convey either how great the characters thinks they are, or how great they *want* to be seen as.
    So the real message is not for villains to be careful of heights, but to be careful of pride and arrogance.

    • @dowfreak7
      @dowfreak7 Рік тому +6

      While that's a nice thought and certainly part of it, let's not act like "fall from a great height and don't show the body" isn't a pretty convenient way to a) show death without a body or mutilation or shock and b) a chance to keep plausible deniability in case you want the character to return.

    Not an Um Actually, but just an elaboration: I believe that Robin Williams refused to come back for Aladdin 2 (and also the Disney channel animated series) due to some issues with Disney surrounding marketing. Williams actually took the role on the condition that his involvement in the film be downplayed, so as to not overshadow his other projects at the time. He wanted to be paid the union minimum, for there to be no merchandise, and for the genie himself not to take up any more than 25% of any given piece of marketing. Disney only fully honoured that first request (that one was easy obviously) and, feeling betrayed, Williams stepped away from the movie. As well as not voicing the Genie again in the aforementioned features, he wasn't in any of the special releases, the interviews, and even the "Art of Aladdin" book only ever refers to him as "The Voice of the Genie". He also gave a super passive aggressive speech when he won an honorary award from the golden globes for the role, which was pretty fun.
    Highly recommend the Supercarlinbrothers' video "Robin Williams Was Almost Not Genie?!" for all the details. :-)

    • @mo0man
      @mo0man 2 роки тому +70

      Slightly incorrect, but only slightly. Disney actually upheld both sides of the contract, but only technically. Robin wanted to be featured on only 25% of advertisements, aka only 1 out of every 4 advertisements. However, Disney put him on every single advertisement but made sure the genie covered less than 25% of the area of the advertisement, which you'll note is quite a lot. They just pretended there was a misunderstanding

    • @jessical4866
      @jessical4866 2 роки тому +15

      Two other things I’ve heard were that Disney also tried to claim that Williams’s wife gave them permission to fudge the advertisement contract, and that though Williams DID eventually play the Genie again he did a lot of educational videos in the role to have more of a positive effect.

    I think one of the Disney deaths that sorta stuck with me was Mother Gothel in Tangled. It's not because it was super gruesome or gory but just how she starts falling and completely disappears before she even hits the ground. Like... with other deaths there's evidence that this person once existed but with her, she's just gone. Just popping in the comments to say that the set of books that "The Black Cauldron" is based on is known as the Chronicles of Prydain, written by Lloyd Alexander. The books are excellent and very much tailored to a young/preteen audience. A great way to introduce people to the high fantasy genre. It's just a pity that Disney took 5 books and tried to make a single movie out of them... Rather the opposite of what happens nowadays...

    • @seosamhrooney4819

      Another thing to note is that originally the film was a lot longer and significantly darker , especially the final battle and Disney specifically cut a lot of the movie because they didn't want to alienate ypunger audiences.
      They didn't replace these scenes because by that point they were significantly over-budget which is why when the movie flopped, it came very close to actually ending Walt Disney Pictures.
      With that in mind, since Disney is pushing more darker and edgier films and shows with the creation of STAR; And they love making live-action remakes of old animated films, it would be great time to capitalise and make Disneys first R/18 rated movie/tv show under the Disney Brand with of course, the right creative team and director, in the form of a Chronicles of Prydain series called "The Black Cauldron".

  • @romxxii

    Um Actually, Williams' dispute with Disney is well-documented. He agreed to do it on the sole condition that his appearance in the film would never be used, and I quote "to sell something, like Burger King, like toys." He was specifically opposed to the use of his voice to sell merchandising tie-ins.
    Makes sense, as he was at the time also doing another animated film, Ferngully, which had strong environmentalist, anti-capitalist themes. It was also, from what I recall, a passion project for him.
    Not that Aladdin was merely a paycheck for him, mind you. Disney sold him on the character of the genie, and he fell in love with it.

    • @romxxii
      @romxxii 2 роки тому +11

      @@bretterry8356 Um Actually, they came out the same year. Ferngully came out in April 1992, Aladdin in November. Production for Aladdin started in the late 80's and they had an approved script by early 1991, a full year before Ferngully came out. Add to the fact that Robin Williams' lines were mostly ad-libbed, meaning they'd have to animate most of the genie's speaking lines _after_ they recorded Williams. Also, Williams was already pretty infamous for being a frenetic chaos goblin by that point in time.

    This is actually why The Evil Stepmother in Cinderella stands out to me still. The Queen in Snow White is in rain and lightening, leaning back cackling, and falls to her death.
    The Stepmother just has a sharp tone "do them again!" and sits in shadow; she has the most horrible small-scale glare, she has it when she's sitting in shadow stroking Lucifer (she named, her cat, lucifer) and she has it before she locks Cinderella away. She smirks when she shatters the shoe, she'd rather destroy any hope for cinderella than anything else. She has nothing but cruel subtle acts that successfully destroy all hope around her ... and she doesnt die. Nothing happens to her. So many disney villains face horrible deaths and she just ... continues life, probably punishing her daughters by extension as the only slaves she has left.

    I would say that the Dragon slaying in Sleeping Beauty is one of, if not the, most horrifying death in Disney. It is the most graphic one at least since I can't think of another Disney movie they actually show a weapon piercing the body and blood spilling out of a wound. 15:57 Um actually, The process of being a Disney princess is a lot more complex than the statement suggests. It comes down to 5 parts:
    1. The character must complete all of these 3 characteristics:
    a) Must have a primary role
    b) Must be human
    c) Must not be introduced in a sequel
    2. The character must then complete one of these 3 plot points:
    a) Born into royalty
    b) Married into royalty
    c) Performed a significant act of heroism (Mainly for Mulan and Moana)
    3. Box Office success (It's Disney, what are you going to do)
    4. Must not have their own franchise (This is why Anna, Elsa and Tinker Bell are not princesses)
    5. (and this was pointed out by Maoi) Must have an animal sidekick (Aurora and Snow White have the animals of the forest, Cinderella has Jacques, Gus Gus, Major, etc; Ariel has Flounder, Sebastian and Scuttle; Belle has Philippe, Jasmine has Rajah, Pocahontas has Meeko and Flit; Mulan has Mushu, Tiana has Raymond and Louis; Rapunzel has Pascal, Merida has Angus, and Moana has Pua/ Hei Hei.

    I gotta come in to defend Disney on the Kimba rip-off charges. I watched Kimba The White Lion, and that movie is NOT the Lion King. Kimba The White Lion is Fern Gully. The story centers around the animals being overrun by human society, not on an internal power struggle for a monarchy. Yes "Kimba" and "Simba" sound similar, but the word "Simba" literally means "Lion" in Swahili, so this is a case of the Japanese writers changing a name to make a pun (Kim being a common name in Japan, so Kim-ba being like Kim the Lion, or Lion Kim), while the American writers were just like "None of our audience knows Swahili anyway, so we'll just pretend it's a name."

    Just a clarification: Disney did NOT rip off Kimba. Watch YourMovieSuck's 2 hour video essay about that topic. Short summary: all those comparison videos accusing Disney of copying scenes from Kimba are disingenuous, because the Kimba footage shown is either newer than Lion King, very generic footage (like a fight), or misleading (like making it seem that a warthog plays a big role in Kimba, which it doesn't. Kimba is also a series and a film series, so there's a lot of footage and of course some of it will be similar to Lion King, but the plots couldn't be more different.

    Least fun correction, but - The S-corp thing is straight up wrong. Your S-corp income gets taxed as ordinary income, not subject to self-employment. This does give it favorable treatment with regards to FICA like they say, but it's not the same as being a dividend. Dividends would be subject to net investment income tax as well - s-corp income is not (generally). Dividends from an S-corp would also probably be de facto qualified dividends, which would qualify for the lower long-term capital gains rate (maxes out at 20% + net investment income tax) vs ordinary income rates (maxes out at 37%).
    Also, an LLC can elect to be taxed as a C corporation. The C corporation can then apply for an S election to be treated as an S corp, so it's technically wrong too to say a single-member LLC can elect to be taxed as a sole proprietorship or an S corp.

While an individual may choose to use an S Corp over a C Corp many companies choose C Corp as that is the forms they are already use to filing. • @john36855

      Difference for S vs C are mostly due to purpose and size. S Corps are meant for smaller companies and are taxed once where C Corps are taxed twice (company pays then owner pays when they receive dividend). C Corps are better when getting ready for transitioning to the stock market or if you plan on having more than 100 members. Also C Corps can have members who are not US citizens or residents.
