Apologies, this garment with one-sided sleeves has a longer history in China than in Japan, and it is known as the "Wenwushou" (literally, "Civil and Military sleeves"). The Wenwushou were a type of clothing from the Tang Dynasty, and they were a component of the Tang Dynasty's military attire.

Anime and Japanese pop culture are more prevalent in Western circles than Chinese ones, so people try to relate to Chinese culture using Japanese culture. While there are similarities, they are after all, two different cultures. I think it's the same thing when people first come across gimbap but do not know how to call it and instead call it 'korean sushi', although gimbap and sushi have two different histories. Or another example the same thing when someone only seen something but can only relate it to something in Fortnite and thus reference the game instead of its original.
He and mortefi share the same mutation of the dragon. Jiyan both of his hand has scale that just cover by the guard.also jiyan is like the wind dragon while mortefi is a fire dragon
i really like jiyan’s design a lot. i like his whole theme of the blue and dragon stuff going on. plus in a sucker for longer hair sometimes. and i like how asymmetrical his design is! it makes it way more fun to look at! also side note: you’re telling me… the male MC was supposed to have eyeliner…? WHY WOULD THEY REMOVE THAT 😭😭😭

Imma pull for all the male characters cuz i need to 'observe' them carefully 😌 and I've read somewhere that someone called the mark behind his neck the "omega mark" 😭
I have honestly never had a more fun time listening to someone disect a character model before lol and I really enjoy how you consider things from a cosplayer perspective.
you made me research military pants, lol (i do like tanks and world war history). anyway, they have either "waterproof" type of pants or pants that dry quickly in the (modern) military! so i think the pants design is sort of kuro's take on not making the pants perhaps too bland/boring. and yeah the warzone is muddy, especially with all those rains, but i've read that the thickness of the mud is usually because of blood from corpses and wounds, not wet dirt, ahahah.
You know, by the fact that the gold arm brace reaches down to his finger tips that means that the material has to be able to naturally bend otherwise he is handling all his weapons with just his ring finger and pinky, so maybe his hair tie is also just stretchable/bendable (coping)

His left arm guard with the gold accents are probably metal and does work as protection. This can be commonly found in japanese medieval armor
