Love house stepping. Kind of have the gist of it, got to a lot of raves and a lot of people have not seen this before which suprises me. Really fun to learn. Highly recommend giving it a shot. Cool vid! Very easy to follow, Mahalo from Hawaii!
I really like the look of this step. Ill probably add it to my "must learn" list. It will help me alot if i have to catch some breath after a hard powermove.
just what i've been surfin for. This is like a base move Washington Salles would warm up with, except his variations are so AAAweesome, you just can't look and learn.
House dance is way to diverse and deep with it's movesets to just add to shuffling. You should definitely dedicate yourself to it if you decide to learn a few moves.
You actually have two choices, I apologize because its a bit hard to explain in words but i'll give it a shot. In the version that I was showing in this tutorial, much of the weight distrobution remains over the top of the foot that is doing the double beat rhythm (the foot that is rocking from heel to ball). Which means when you are alternating you want to move your hips (very slightly) over the top of that particular foot. That also means that you have to really spend some time developing balance on that foot while it maintains its "rocking motion". You can practice things like walking around on your heels with your toes pulled up (curled back in your shoe). This can help with the balance and placement since its more natural to balance your self when the ball of your foot is down versus toes/ball up in the air (in your heel). Another approach that I didn't really spend the time to dissect in this tutorial is to bounce your weight back with every "back step" on the leg that is doing the full beat rhythm. Essentially you are using that back foot to fall back onto when you step back (your weight falls back) and then push your weight forward when coming back where the feet come together before they alternate sides. When I mention the balance/weight in either approach it is where your hips and chest align over the top of either foot/feet. This includes potentially shifting the hips ever so slightly from side to side over each leg to help maintain a almost horizontal straight line over said foot. Overall as long as you are not falling over or tripping over your self, try different things and enjoy whatever it is that comes out of it. If you are able to get the step looking just like me in this tutorial, awesome....but it isn't required. The step is there to help you create and feel out new movement that you can add to your own dance. You will look different than me because we are different dancers and that is okay in my book :) Hope this helps some.
you don't teach house dancing you learn by dancing to house music it's soul dancing Love dancing not jazz or set moves it's improvisation at it greatest this is wack regardless of who is teaching the class!
+Justin Maryland I agree, you learn by dancing to house music; however, there is nothing wrong with learning an approach to movement in the context of studying dance as a "dancer". Be it that movement is done to house music or any other music. This tutorial all though "labeled" as "house dance" is as valid a way to learn as just going to the club and dancing to house music. This is not teaching how to "house dance", this is teaching you how to do a step. If you watch the tutorial and listen to what I say, I am sure you will comprehend that. This is not wack, far from it, I feel bad for you that you have so much hate inside you that you can't let people just enjoy learning and or teaching without needing to shed a negative view in response. I hope one day to dance with you so you will see I am not coming from a place which is trying to damage, water down or discredit this "house dance culture". Peace.
Never seen someone dance like that in Clubs. In my younger days I was drinking and partying a lot, and I was on Clubs a lot of times, and if I had seen someone dancing to house, techno music etc like that on the dance floor, I would had started to laugh. Now I am not clubbing so much, just once in a while, and I have still never seen anyone dancing like that. Haha.
I've to been house in clubs in a few different cities all over Florida, Cali and Chicago so reading this has me thinking you were never in an house clubs then, because everytime I walked into one, regardless if had dress code, or not and they always had someone getting down in them like that. This style goes back decades too, so it's not like it's new. It's even more world wide too.

Hey when you're alternating feet, where should your center of balance/weight be?
You actually have two choices, I apologize because its a bit hard to explain in words but i'll give it a shot.
